Buyer "does not like item."
I have asked them to return and I will refund. Nothing yet! They have a MONTH to return item but my funds are being held by eBay. I have asked for an approximate date I can expect the item, (a $125.00 pearl ring) but have had no response. It states that I do not do refunds, but of course, Ebay expects one to do so. This feels very unfair to sellers like me who are very forgiving and prompt in our communications. What recourse do I have after the deadline for them to return the item has passed. Is "I don't like it!" a common response?

OP1 year agoThanks all! I did ask when I could expect the return when it was due in six days. The ring came back back
WRAPPED IN A PAPER TOWEL! I know some people are like that and I am reminded by you all that this happens..and more...as an eBay seller! I operate with a different set of values! Lyn (Original Poster)

·1 year agoI agree with the others, be glad about the "I don't like it." I offer free returns with the hope it reduces the risk someone will lie. I don't fret about it, because I know I'll be able to keep the original shipping that was paid.
I also do not rush people about returning. I'd rather them not return. Returns are expensive. Probably at least 60% of my returns never get shipped back to me and the cases close automatically with me having to do....nothing.

·1 year agoIf they were honest about their reason, that was a Remorse Return & you CAN DECLINE those. THey can still leave you a neg though.

·1 year agoEven if you have a no returns policy?
So I have a "no returns" policy.
A customer asks for a remorse return.
I decline the return.
They can leave me a negative feedback?
That's unbelievable ... but nice to know.

·1 year agoIf the buyer claims that it is Not As Described then your No Returns policy does not apply. Or more precisely: eBay overrides your policy with theirs.

·1 year agoI know that but if you have a no returns policy and it's a remorse return, if the seller denies the remorse return the buyer can leave a negative feedback? That doesn't seem right.

·1 year agoIf you have a no returns policy, you have a right to deny a remorse return. The buyer can leave you negative feedback, of course. It isn't like the negative feedback option disappears. But, if they talk about you not accepting their return, you then have an appealable reason to get the feedback edited or, ideally, removed altogether. If that ever happens, I strongly advise to FIRST report the buyer for abuse of the feedback policy, and explain why/how it abuses the policy. (In this hypothetical case, the buyer left you a negative because you refused to do something that goes against both your policy and eBay's policy. )
Once you report the buyer, then appeal the negative feedback. Because I'm not certain how often or whether humans ever actually look at these reports and appeals, I'd give it at least 24 hours before appealing the feedback. This is just to give some time to ensure that if a human looks at your report of the buyer, they've had time to process that in and get it noted. Then, when you appeal the feedback, make note in the appeal that the buyer had already been reported for abuse of the feedback system.
The caveat is that if the buyer leaves negative feedback for a valid reason (e.g. slow shipping), even if you think the feedback was left for retaliation, your appeal won't go anywhere. Unhinged buyers and scammers do not think this stuff through, so they will just turn on CAPS lock and have it.
I offer free returns. I had lady leave me negative feedback outside the return window. In the feedback, she stated she had messaged me about the size of some shorts before she bought them. She didn't. She messaged me begging for a discount, which I refused. Initially I did not realize she was outside the return window, so I reached out to her to let her know she could return them at my expense. I then reported her for abusing the feedback system. The next day I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. I thought I had clicked to file the appeal, so in the text box, I entered in information about how the buyer abused the feedback system and violated the policy. I then added I had reported the buyer. I hit submit, then realized that instead of filing the appeal, I had asked the buyer to revise their feedback. 🙀 I had to go back and file the appeal.
In the meantime, the lady opened a return and that's when I realized she was outside the return window as eBay gave me the option to deny the return. I kept my word though, and sent her a shipping label. I get the shorts back. This lady packed these jean shorts inside a 8x10 manila envelope, which got ripped in the package sorter. USPS had taped it back up. Some of the fraying was damaged. They also smelled like cigarette smoke. Of course, I kept the original shipping she paid. I also deducted 50% of her refund. Wowsers did she get angry! She took advantage of the feedback request I had sent her and she really let me have it, calling me every name in the book. Too bad nobody could see it, since by then eBay had removed the original. 🤣

·1 year agoMaybe and maybe not.
I had a 'remorse return...no tracking and nothing returned...around 35 days.
I gave in to the refund...
It did not close on my behalf. Some sort of glitch going on I suppose.
I was afraid of a 'ding'.

·1 year agothe glitch is the USPS has been taken over by idiots and you are responsible for the resulting loses

·1 year ago@boiselyn Just put it on the back burner if you've already accepted the return - ball is in the buyer's court now. I wouldn't communicate or prompt them to hurry up. It's not uncommon for someone to simply never return something. And yes, eBay will hold the money until the return is either completed or timed out.
ETA: BTW "I don't like it" is a very common reason for return - be glad they're honest instead of filing some bogus not as described case. And you were smart to take the return.

If it was "remorse" return you should have been presented with the option to decline.
As you have accepted, the buyer has until the date given y eBay to get a return acceptance scan.
If not done, the case will close in your favor, and the hold will drop from your funds.
