Buyer credit card Dispute
I was notified by Ebay that a buyer opened a not as described case for a item I sold them 4 months ago . The buyer never messaged there was a problem. Ebay said not to worry that I would not be responsible for the $140 item because it had been so long and they never contacted me Now 2 weeks later I see they deducted the item cost and charged me a $20 dispute fee. This is ridiculous and should not be allowed. Ebay said I cannot dispute it . When is too long to file these disputes?

·5 months agoThe $20 is a penalty fee Ebay assesses when a seller loses a chargeback dispute. It is punishment, since number of lost chargebacks can affect the exchange rate Ebay pays on ALL credit card transactions.

·5 months agoeBay is not involved in the dispute other than reporting it.
A buyer can do a dispute anytime and you must 'respond' to it through eBay.
eBay is totally out of the picture and cannot help.
You got wrong advice.
I suspect you did an appeal and that can costs $20.
You were suppose to write up to a 1000+ word report why the dispute should not be allowed in a business form and download some sort of a photo(s).

·5 months agoIt was a merchandise not as described dispute which merchants rarely win. Ebay does not have your back on not described disputes.
The timeframe of 6 months is flexible and the delay can be longer.
It cost you $20 because you lost the dispute, and you also did not have the Ebay fees credited to the refund.
If you failed to respond, you automatically lost and from an Ebay point of view were guilty of failing to follow procedures, whether you were guilty of selling an improperly described item or not.
Your post suggests you communicated with Ebay customer service, since Ebay messages about chargebacks do not advise you that you would not be responsible. Ebay customer service reps are noted for this wrong advice, they understand neither the chargeback process nor Ebay's policies.
You cannot dispute this decision because Ebay does not allow its sellers to waste time on an appeal which they cannot win.
The consumer protection laws, the credit card issuers, the credit card terms all favor the buyer.
Take this opportunity to think back to this transaction and determine if there are any lessons to be learned about how you could have avoided this failed transactions. You have paid for a lesson, and need to find what it is.

·5 months agoDid you respond to the case? If you provide the appropriate tracking info, ebay has your back as per the seller protection policy. I've had this happen several times and have never had to pay any chargeback fees or refunds.

·5 months agoCredit Card Company allows customers 6-months to file a claim and get "payment reversed". If that happens customer gets to keep both (your money + your item). If you file an appeal, you are charged extra $20 fee.
Sorry but EBAY has no control over what the credit card company does. Selling online is always a risk.

·5 months agoThe buyer disputed with there credit card and had the charge reverse. This isn't an Ebay issue. As far as Ebay goes you were in the clear however that doesn't mean you are fully in the clear with the credit card. It's unfortunate but that's the risk of selling online where you ship something. Credit card companies can reverse payment and if the selling platform as in this case Ebay won't make good then you as the seller are out. Nothing you can do. Only recommendation is place a limit on the value items you are attempting to sell.
