Buyer Complaints
I have sold a few bags on ebay and do my best to represent them correctly. I recently had a buyer say that the purse smelled of perfume. I do not have perfume in my home as I am sensitive and I am sure that it does not smell of perfume. I don't accept returns but what do you do in the situation where you feel like the buyer is making things up? I feel like I no longer want to sell anymore. I had one buyer say there was a small piece of foil in a bag that was new. I have no idea how it got in there. I bought it new, never used it and sold it new. Are they just trying to scam me to get a partial refund? It's very frustrating.

·3 years agoHave they opened a return? If not, tell them to open a return. They "may" be trying to strong arm you into a post-sale discount without opening a case. They are either wanting to stay off Ebay's radar, or they could have already lost their money back guarantee privileges.
This is exactly the reason all sellers should have either a seller paid or a buyer paid return policy and STICK TO IT. Too many sellers will cave in and hand out refunds like candy because they either don't want a case opened or they fear negative feedback.
"Dear buyer,
I'm sorry you're unhappy with the purse. Please return it for a full refund.
Thank you,
Seller"
That's all you need to say. If they have a legitimate complaint they'll open a return.

All we sellers can empathize. Your past feedback as a seller speaks volumes... keep up the good work. 🙌

·3 years agoFrom my experience almost every used bag out there has some type of odor. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do except maybe add in your description it may smell.

·3 years agoYou will have no choice but to take it back. Some buyers are liars and some are very sensitive. Maybe the material has a strong smell or maybe they used it and spilled perfume on it or maybe they are lying. Tell them to open a return request and send it back. Do NOT refund until you get the item back. Do NOT ignore any messages from Ebay concerning the return or you will automatically lose.
Hope that the buyer lied and that there is nothing wrong with the bag. When you get it back, inspect it to make sure that it does not stink. Leave it open for a few days to air out. When you decide to resell it, take NEW photos. Add a few dollars to recover what you lost in the first sale. Make sure that you block that buyer. You don't want to sell anything to someone with a "sensitive " nose or a liar.
You don't leave Ebay because of a few bad deals. Focus on all of your good customers. Goodluck.

·3 years agoprobably a scam buyer who wants a freebie or send you their old bag. They could easily air it out and / or use baking soda / charcoal odor absorber if true.
I would tell them to return at their own cost and after inspection, you will refund.
Not a 100% answer Just a suggestion.
Good luck!

·3 years agoI would not let a couple of negative experiences make you not want to sell. You are dealing with the public and this is going to happen . I feel the way you do and I have been doing this for over 20 years. I have had my share of lunatic buyers. Take the return and move on and don't take it personally. Good Luck!

·3 years agothis is a well known cause of return abuse
buyers make up reasons to return things all the time
the reason does not really matter at all...the outcome does
just say yes to the return and be done with it. then you can move on
ebay returns have to be dealt with and is easiest to just say yes to the return
make sure you do not refund till you get the item back

·3 years agoAnd just how do you know the buyer does not like the smell of the bag? Just how do you know everyone makes things up just to buy something and have to return it?

·3 years agoTell them to return it for a refund. Then inspect the item when you get it back.
If you refuse a return on an Item Not As Described complaint, you will lose your money and your item, since you stated you don't take returns.

·3 years agoThere is nothing you can do. If a buyer opens a 'not as described'- you have 2 choices.
Refund and get nothing back.
Require return, wait to get back, then refund.
Then, you simply 'resell'.
Buyers have a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee. They will 'make things up' to 'force' a return for refund using that reason.
And with that reason, it's not something you can fight.
