Buyer complained about eBay today at a Local Pick up ...
I did a Local pick-up with a customer today and unsolicited they complained about eBay, among the highpoints were:
-Auto-pay
-New message system
It was a lively discussion to say the least ... so eBay changes have certainly NOT "enhanced the Buying experience" with this member.

The path eBay chose was to monetize the supposed problem of non-paying buyers. Though in the beginning they tried to pitch it to buyers as "New smoother checkout, enhanced buyer experience now you can...." or whatever, I don't think it took too long for buyers to figure out that it was nothing of the sort.
It was never 'now you can', but rather NOW YOU MUST.....which did not go over well at all for PAYING BUYERS that would gladly buy multiple items from the same seller via offer or bidding.
As with any eBay decision: FOLLOW THE MONEY
P.S. Don' forget to check your preferences.

My customer actually mentioned the multiple auction bidding from one seller and how Auto-pay messes up their ability to request an updated invoice once they are finished bidding.

Yes, eBay still leaves that important information out along with the payment choices are quite limited. Nobody sees that "by providing the payment source upfront, you will be automatically billed separately for each item at full shipping cost."
Ebay has expanded the "no combined shipping/invoicing for all OFFERS A SELLER SENDS regardless of what the seller or the buyer would like or the status of the "buyer rules". More separate payments, more fees for sellers, and more money for eBay.
The goal apparently is to "retrain buyers after 28 years of the usual buyer experience to not expect combined shipping anymore." Win 15 auctions for postage stamps with $2 shipping each, and see how happy the buyer is when shipping alone ends up being $30.
It is definitely NOT about providing a "good buyer experience". Never was.

But that has been the credo for as long as I can remember.

Similar to IPR on BIN listings not all sellers have the auto-pay function enabled for auctions and/or OBO. It is a solution eBay put in place to help stem the seller complaints about all the non-paying buyers.

I can see the value of Auto-pay if it were selectable PER listing but not as a global account setting.

·1 year agoAs a percentage of my sales I get a fair amount of combined orders. The regulars know to message me about getting refunded for combined shipping when I ship. I hear from new people to me as well. I put in the listing that I will refund excess postage paid if paid at once. The unknowable is: how many customers am I losing who are turned off by ebay making them pay up front?

This is a good question and a good point. If a customer tries one or two Sellers who require Auto-pay (whether the Sellers know it is ON or not) it might turn those customers away from the site in general and they may assume (incorrectly) that ALL eBay Sellers require a payment method up front.

It's funny so many complain about the auto-pay feature for auctions and OBO, just like they did regarding non-payers. I don't think I have ever seen a post complaining about IPR for BIN items.

·1 year agoThanks for the post. There has been plenty of discussion on this forum about the new messaging system. I don't buy a lot on eBay these days but I was wondering what the perspectives are/were from the buyers side.

Yes, it was good to hear a live person complaining about the things many of us have been posting about here ... a lot of it is obvious and just plain lack of common sense.

·1 year agoI do lot of buying for myself and for 60+ and up clients that don't want to deal with online buying . Ebay still has not fixed the missing search filters in seller stores completely . Also I'm ebay will dump the new message page soon. The New Feedback Page is useless .

·1 year agoHonestly, I wouldn't want to hear it because I can't do anything about it, particularly if someone is bending my ear.
"I'm sorry, sir/madam, I'm just a seller there and can't do anything about it - they don't listen to us, either. How about writing to the management?"

·1 year agoI hear that weekly here with local customers.
Mostly that search doesn't work.
Local business seems to be picking up also.
