Buyer Claims I Sent The Wrong Part
Hey there, I've been selling auto parts on Ebay as a side gig for a few years now. I've never come across and issue until yesterday. I recently shipped a wheel hub assembly to a buyer with zero feedback. I checked to make sure it was delivered without issue when I noticed I had received my first negative feedback. The buyer stated that I sent him the wrong part and that it didn't fit his 2015 Jeep Compass. In the listing title it clearly states that it's for a 1997-2005 Chevy Blazer. At no point did the buyer attempt to contact me to correct the issue. I messaged the buyer yesterday and stated that the ad clearly says the part is for a Chevy Blazer, but if they returned the part I would refund them fully. This morning, the buyer requested a return stating that I sent him the wrong part and that he needed refunded so he could purchase the correct part. Although I'm a smaller seller, I did have perfect feedback, and I don't want this to negatively affect me. Especially when I feel like this is an error on the buyers behalf. What course of action should I take to handle this? (Apologize for the long-winded post)

·2 years agoLuckily the feedback is eligible for deletion as long as you handle the return right. So accept the return and if he ships it back and you refund him then you'll be able to get the feedback easily deleted. Or if he doesn't ship it back and he doesn't get a refund you can still to get the feedback deleted (once the return is closed).

You may be right. However, I would be inclined to leave this one....and reply. Reminds me of a buyer who filed a SNAD, left a red donut review in all caps that the sweater had a hole in it. This was left for a seller who only sells Post Cards. eBay made the card seller front the return of the said sweater anyway because the buyer chose a SNAD reason from the dropdown....

If the buyer admitted their mistake, they would have to ship it back on their dime. Honesty is not required when clicking on or choosing any of those reasons from the dropdown menu for which return shipping is on you. It is only the buyer's choice that counts, and at that point your photos/descriptions no longer matter.
Have you looked into the new policies in eBay Motors regarding guaranteed fit? It is my understanding that in certain circumstances the "return shipping" may be on eBay instead of you.
Years ago eBay wouldn't stick a seller like this, but that is no longer the case.
Though they all sting a bit the "red donut" review this guy left is rather hilarious. We used to call them a "badge of honor". I don't even think I would ask for it to be removed. Don't reply if you plan to ask for it to be taken away.....but....

So sorry you were disappointed, but the 20+ year old Chevy Blazer parts you ordered are not expected to be compatible with a 2015 Jeep.

OP2 years agoLol, that's what I'm confused by more than anything. How this guy thought that this part was for a Jeep Compass when I have Chevy Blazer in the title as well as compatible vehicles. I'm going to look into the Guaranteed Fit policy. I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for the reply!

·2 years agoYou didn't send the wrong part, buyer ordered the wrong part. Take the return and block. Answer the feedback with something like I'm sorry you ordered the wrong part, please return for refund. It's a negative that should not impact sales. I always feel bad for the seller who gets a negative that says fast shipping just what i needed, which makes no sense at all.

OP2 years agoExactly what I'm going to do. Thanks. I hate doing everything right on my end and being penalized by an inept buyer. Such as life.....

·2 years agoIt's standard English: A double positive is a negative. Just like a double negative is a positive, e.g. I ain't got nothing.
A linguistics professor was lecturing his class. "In English," he said, "a double negative forms a positive. However, in some languages such as Russian, a double negative remains a negative. But there isn't a single language in which a double positive can express a negative."
A voice from the back of the room countered, "Yeah, right."

·2 years agoThe financial press identifies auto parts as a high returns business, up there with Women's fashion clothing.
If you have not made provisions in your business plan and pricing for returns, this is an appropriate time to do so.

OP2 years agoSorry, I should have clarified that I've handled many returns before, just nothing like this. But I appreciate your comment, as it is great info that applies to all Sellers out there.

·2 years agoOnce they have opened a not as described, there is no fighting it. eBay will side with the buyer if you don't accept the return within the 5 days. If you try and fight it, even if the buyer was a complete mor-on, you will loose. Don't refund till you get the item back.
This is a short post compared to some wall "o" text that some write.
