Buyer claims his payment transaction is being denied
The buyer claims he tried to pay for the item, however in his words "The purchase keeps getting denied on multiple cards and different options to pay." I told him he needed to contact his credit card companies to find out why they are denying the purchase. Is this a possible scam?

·1 year agoScammers target inexperienced sellers with expensive items. Quit all communication until it's paid for. Don't allow any address changes.

OP1 year agoYeah, that's my plan. If he doesn't sort it out I'll just caulk it up as a waste of time.

Yes, sometimes they waste your time and eventually never purchase ... been there done that.

OP1 year agoHe claimed that his bank had frozen the card thinking it was fraud. He had it unfrozen but claims it still didn't go through. Then he stated he was trying to have the shipping address be a PO Box in the states, so I may have to find out he lives outside the USA.
I did tell him that some card companies will deny a purchase if the Shipping and billing addresses are different to avoid fraud.

If he is messaging you through eBay you can click on his ID and get to his Feedback history, that will tell you what country he is from. I have issue with him trying to have something shipped to a PO box, unless he has a friend or family here he may not be able to do that. I mean WHO is going to go get the item from the Post Office???

OP1 year agoHe's been a member of eBay since 2020, however, he has no feedback. He was pretty quick to reply to messages via eBay up to the last one where I told him the shipping and billing address might have to be the same. He hasn't responded to that one.

Well, until he pays there is nothing to do but wait to see if he sorts out his issue. Or, add him to your blocked list and move on ... if he has no FB for that many years then he is not a big Buyer ... there are more fish in the sea.

That can happen after several failed attempts, though it should be temporary. He still needs to find out why the first attempt failed, though.

That sounds like something someone outside of the US might say. For some reason, many overseas buyers are reluctant to mention that fact -- perhaps because it has lead to them being blocked by sellers in the past.
If you are willing to ship to the US address, you might try adding that buyer to your exempt list -- though that can be dangerous if the buyer is being blocked for another reason. Or you could temporarily allow users outside the US to purchase, then change your buyer requirements back after the purchase is complete.
Or the buyer could try changing the buyer's Primary Shipping Address to the US PO Box address. That may not help if the issue is actually an import/export restriction, though.

Scammers do like to pose as naive users having problems, but there are also innocent users that actually do have problems; it is not a simple matter to tell them apart until the user starts sending you links or asking you to violate policy and take a transaction off of eBay -- that is how the scam usually works.

OP1 year agoWell, there's no activity in the Activity log.
As for the buyer requirements, the only thing checked is "Block buyers whose primary shipping address is in a location to which I don’t ship
and all the Buyer rules are checked.
I only have it set to ship to a location in USA, so maybe he's trying to use an international address.
I have no intention of going off eBay to complete the sale. Which was my 1st thought when I saw the Multiple cards claim.

If the user has a non-US Primary Shipping Address, even if the user supplies a freight forwarding address in the US at checkout, the user would still be blocked.
The blank log might be a sign that the user has not attempted a purchase, but it also might be a sign that the feature is no longer being updated, unfortunately.
