Buyer bought 2 items requested to ship both now wants refund of shipping difference
Summary: celi9090 shared a situation where a buyer requested to combine shipping for two purchased items, but celi9090 found it confusing and shipped them separately. The buyer now wants a refund for the shipping difference. krazzykats suggested offering a coupon or apology since one item was already shipped, while jonathanbrightlight mentioned it's not mandatory to refund unless there's a significant difference. mr_lincoln provided a detailed guide on combining shipping for future reference, and others shared opinions on whether to issue a refund or not. There was consensus that explaining policies clearly before transactions can help avoid such situations.

·2 weeks ago · EditedSince you did not combine then items then the buyer should not get any refund.

·2 weeks ago · EditedYou only have two answers to choose from. #1. Don't refund them. #2. Refund them. Pick one. You're welcome. But I'm sure you will receive tons of fluff from most people here.

·2 weeks agoHi @squinkercat59
Here is a step-by-step procedure that I have used for years to Combine multiple purchases from the same Buyer (as long as they are NOT Guest purchases - those cannot be combined). Once you complete this process and ship the package you can refund them the shipping overage (use the drop down menu on one or both items and scroll down to Send refund, click that and follow the steps).
You can actually Combine multiple Buy it now items prior to printing a label:
-Sold items will be in your Awaiting shipment-print shipping label file
-Use the check box on the left for the items to be Combined
-At the top of the list is a Shipping drop-down menu on the left, select Print shipping labels
-The items will be moved to the Bulk label flow
-Use the check boxes again on the left and then click the Combine button at the top of the page
-The items will be Combined, over on the right you can adjust the weight, box dimensions, Shipping method (if necessary) and then review and print the label in the upper right.
-If you want a receipt it is a secondary function on the Bulk label flow.
-You can Refund the Buyer the shipping overage once you ship the package.
You do NOT need to offer Priority mail and can offer the lower cost USPS Ground Advantage. That the shipping costs your Buyers see will be less than Prioirty.
Good luck ...

·2 weeks ago · EditedIt's easy to get with the program and learn how to combine items. It's not that difficult to figure out when getting shipping labels.
If it is possible to combine the items, you can easily figure out a potential refund for the buyer, which will make them happy and encourage them to be return customers.
Cheers, Duffy

OP2 weeks agoBuyer has more experienced in selling than me. I checked he's a seller. So he knows more. Why not asked first before buying it's laid out in my brief 4 liner auction page. To ask questions before buying.

·2 weeks agoIf they can be mailed in the same container, why wouldn't you? It saves you on shipping supplies, and you may get a repeat buyer.

·2 weeks agoCan you make an exception for this buyer? Or is it impossible to combine the items?

OP2 weeks agoI already mailed the item showed in transit he asked for refund of the difference. Why not let me know before the items in transit. how do you do you go about refunding for the shipping with ebay proof.
krazzykats
·2 weeks agoThen I would apologize and explain that one item has already been shipped so you cannot combine at this late of date. Maybe offer them a coupon?
They are going to be unhappy somewhat about not being able to save any money, even though that is not your fault.

OP2 weeks agoif there's ebay proof on the sale to refund the shipping difference?

·2 weeks agoDon't print the amount you paid on the label.
But if there is a significant difference, then I would send it to them.
jonathanbrightlight
·2 weeks agoThey're not entitled to a refund of the difference, even if they paid more than your final shipping charge. When they purchased it, they agreed to pay what was shown on the listing, which does not have to match the final shipping cost. Many of us do refund at least some if there is a significant difference, but eBay will never require you to.

·2 weeks agoWhether or not the items are in transit has nothing to do with this unless you shipped them separately. You can still refund the buyer a realistic amount.
