Buyer apparently was able to change a fixed price on their end
Hello,
In short I posted an item for $50 buy now. No other options such as best offer was available. I was surprised to find that the item sold for $45. I double checked and sure enough a best offer was not optional. How did this happen? Should I report the buyer? Did they some how hack into eBay?
Another strange occurrence happened years ago as well. I purchased and item and soon afterwards the record of that transaction was scrubbed. I had the print out, and eventually the package came in the mail but the sales record no longer existed on ebay.
Are people able to hack into eBay and get these sorts of results?

·2 years agoI don't think they would hack Ebay to knock $5 off the price of a spoon.
Are you sure you didn't send out any offers or provided a coupon?

·2 years agoI know several seller's that are in a private buyer & selling group , and around 2018 to mid 2019 where at a ebay live event in Vegas .came back to the group about ebay's plan to sell old stock that have been setting on ebay to make space for new item's by sending coupon's as their make offer to buyer's ,But the sellers would not lose a cent since ebay is doing make offer with a coupon. I did get those coupons .

·2 years agoSo....you think maybe someone went to the lenghts of hacking into your account so they could change the price from $50 to $45? This must be a major crime syndicate at work.

·2 years agoEbay send's coupon discount to buyers that are watching what ebay feel's is old stock on the site to move it off . The seller still get's full amount on money ,while ebay eats the discount.

·2 years agoHave you ever used the "Send Offer" feature for that listing and sent a 10% offer to any buyer?
If you have dome this in the past, eBay may have automatically sent the same offer to a different buyer later on.
Because eBay has added a checkbox to "Automatically send offer to other interested buyers" and that box is now enabled by default (at least for me).

Darn ebay! It's all their fault!
The way I see it, ebay owes you $5.

·2 years agoI have seen this pop up a few times as well. It was eventually figured out that, through communication, a discount was given.

·2 years agoProbably not relevant but a few similar complaints pop up sometimes on the UK forum. There the reason that comes up for a lesser price is usually that the seller is a business seller registered for VAT. So when their item is sold to another country the UK VAT part is removed from the sale price so it appears to have sold for less.
I have no idea if there is anything similar in the States.

·2 years agoI can see how that could be confusing for a UK or EU seller, who was not familiar with selling to a region that doesn't have VAT.
However, that situation would not happen in the USA, because one of the major differences between VAT and sales tax, is that VAT is included in the sale price, so it is transparent to the buyer. While sales tax is always added on at checkout, and is not included in the sale price. So the sale price doesn't change even if the buyer is exempt from sales tax for that purchase.

·2 years agoeBay Terapeak Research confirms that item was sold for $45.00 plus shipping, and paid for.
It doesn't say "Best offer" in the sold-items list, so that confirms that it wasn't sold to a normal best offer, where the buyer sends an offer and either the seller accepts or it is auto-accepted if the offer is over the minimum threshold that was set.
That means that it must have been an offer that was automatically sent from the seller's account. When you're making a listing, you can set that on the listing form. Other sellers have reported that eBay may turn this on by default, and it may be hidden on the listing form under "Other options' or something like that. So sometimes seller get taken by surprise, because they didn't know this was turned on by default on their listing.
That must have been what happened. Not a hack, but a hidden setting on the listing form, that you didn't know you should look for and turn it off.

·2 years agoBuyers cannot change prices. Do you have any communication with the buyer prior to the sale? Did you maybe offer a %off discount? I see it under your solds for $50.
