Buyer agreed to cheaper shipping, how do I do this?
First sale. All apologies in advance.
Buyer purchased USPS Ground, and we both agreed that I should send UPS Ground because USPS is a mess right now and UPS is cheaper.
I purchased the shipping label, but did not send yet, and then found out that ebay still takes the USPS costs from my purchase, even though we agreed to alternate shipping.
Now what? I tried the 'Send Invoice' option that their Help recommends, but the option doesn't appear after the buyer has paid.
Do I have to refund and cancel the sale, relist, then send a new invoice? Because when I do that, ebay wants to charge me separately for the shipping label now, so I am concerned they will make me pay for it twice.

·5 months agoIf you had come to this board before you listed the $500 item & said " My first sale on eBay is going to be a $500 fancy bluetooth amp electronic thingie, opinions?" not a single person would have recommended that as a good item to be your first sale on eBay, if ever.
I really hope this sale goes well for you, but if I were in your shoes I would cancel the sale & start out selling small inexpensive items. I've been selling 20+ years & I don't think I would be brave enough to sell that $500 item today, just a target for scammers.
I know this doesn't address your problem, but I had to comment. I hope I am wrong & the sale goes fine for you.

·5 months agoWhen a seller sells an item, the fee is calculated on the item price, the shipping cost and the state sales tax, if any.
If this turned out to be a surprise to you, may I respectfully suggest that you do not list anything else until you have carefully read all the available information about selling on eBay. This is for your protection as a seller.

OP5 months agoNo, I have not yet. But it is listed as being charged to my purchase in the fees on the order.

Just purchase the UPS label and refund the buyer the difference.

OP5 months agoOh my god, I am such an idiot. The fees I am seeing that ebay charged are for the sale itself. I didn't realize ebay took a cut of the shipping price too, so in all the screens it looks like this is the shipping, when it is their fee.
I am sorry. Newbie mistake.

·5 months agoI am glad you figured it out. Yes, eBay fees include Item Cost + Shipping (if charged as a seperate line item) + taxes. Make sure to round up your measurements to the nearest inch and round the weight up to the nearest pound. I personally would add 2 extra inches on all sides of the package. The reason is because UPS will charge more if the package bulges out during shipping. Since you are going to refund the buyer for the overage they paid, you do not want to cut yourself too short should something like that happen. Also, I would account for your eBay fees as well. In other words, if the shipping cost is $40, I'd take another $20 to cover some of the eBay fees.

OP5 months ago@shire123 The USPS label was added automatically to the transaction, because it was listed with that method - my bad on that.
Do you know of any way to cancel *that* label? Or do I have to refund the whole thing and start over? Thank you for your help.

·5 months agoI get that. Just do as I said. Go to your Orders on the sellers hub. The last option is shipping labels. Click on that and then select the item you sold with that label. Click on the options and one will be to cancel the label.
Or just follow Stuff4divas excellent detailed instructions.

OP5 months agoIt isn't allowing me to. When I go there, it shows the UPS label. When I click Cancel, it tells me that it already has cancelled it. It doesn't let me cancel - or even see - a USPS label. It just has it listed in the fees that it has already charged me for it.

Canceling a shipping label
You have 28 days to cancel an unused USPS, FedEx, or UPS label purchased on eBay. It can take up to 21 days for the carrier to approve or reject the refund. If approved, funds will be credited to your original funding source.

Shipping seems a little high on that last sold item.
If you cancel the current label and redo the label with correct measurements, there should be a lower price, even with USPS.

OP5 months agoMy issue is that ebay already deducted the USPS amount from the sale, and I already bought and paid for the UPS label, and I cannot see how to cancel either, or give the buyer the benefit of the cheaper label.

·5 months agoFirst let your buyer know what is going on. As UPSP is more expensive than UPS in this case, essentially the buyer overpaid for shipping. So no need to go the invoice route. Just cancel the USPS Ground Advantage label. (It might take a few weeks to get the credit for that postage). Then print a new label using the UPS ground rate.
Then refund the buyer any excess shipping payment.

·5 months agoIn sellers hub, under ORDERS, scroll to the bottom which says SHIPPING LABELS. Click on that and there will be a cancel line. Choose the correct item and cancel the label.

·5 months agoGo to ORDERS, SHIPPING LABEL (select CANCEL LABEL). It takes 2-3 week before you will get a refund for the label.
You will need add credit card or other payment method in your EBAY account (to pay for "new label").
