Buyer address 11 blocks away. Can I just leave it in bag with doorman? Zabar’s 2 blocks from him.
Do I have to super duper wrap it up if I’m hand delivering it to his building, his doorman, 2 blocks from Zabar’s that I need to go to today to buy bread?
I shall refund his $15. Postal fee of course.

·2 years agoIf they deliver it to where the bread is, and the buyer doesn't get it, you may lose some bread on that transaction.

·2 years agoYes, honestly there's too much weird risk for an unsatisfied buyer backlash or transition mishap compared to seller protected USPS tracking delivery.
You would have refunded him the shipping anyway, so it's not like you would benefit from that situation. Even further, you might be losing even more profit by hand delivering it. It may not be guaranteed that ebay would pro rate your final value fees back. I know for sure you won't get ANY pro rated PLS or PLA fees back for doing this. Not to mention the sales tax the buyer paid, ebay might still remit your entire sales tax received including the tax on the shipping charge.
I've USPSed it to buyers just down the street from me before for the same reason. It can get messy doing it any other way. If they want to SNAD it though, I'll pick that up in person and refund on the spot haha.

OP2 years agoThe end result of this eBay sale is that I emailed the buyer 2 consecutive days asking him if it would be acceptable to him my dropping off his item at his apartment building with his doorman. He never answered back. I was willing to go 14 blocks to his building to hand deliver his item out of my way rather than 6 blocks to the post office here and ship it out as usual which is what I just did!

·2 years agoJust go there and asked to talk to whoever actually ordered it. Hand deliver it to the person and refund the postage. Make sure you get a free bag of goodies before you leave for hand delivering it.

·2 years agoWhy would the buyer be obligated to give the seller a "free bag of goodies" for hand delivering it?
If the seller opts to do that, he needs to be concerned about an INR case regardless of how many bags of goodies he is given.

·2 years agoHeck with Zabar - if I could, I'd first get a bialy at Dubins' on Church ave before getting on the 'D' train and heading to Brighton Beach, then get a knish at Gabila for lunch and ride the Wonder Wheel - of course in one of the moving cars. Then later a frank at Nathan's and off to play some pinball at Buddy's
Instead I'm changing first class to ground adv all day.
But your post did make me order knishes from Gabila for us six old Brooklyn kids here in New Mexico.

·2 years agoI too can easily pass on Zabar's bagels, and view Blueberry Bagels as a travesty.
I would far rather have a bagel from Slims, on the Expressway at Springfield Blvd in Queens. Been a far superior product for over 50 years.

·2 years ago@jewelbizI would ask if they would be home to accept it if you delivered it to them and refunded the postage. I would point out that it would be fresher than if it waited to be shipped. Or if you could take a pic of the doorman holding it! Pumpernickel, yum.

·2 years agoUSPS it so you have proof of delivery. That's what I would do... Once I had a buyer who lived the next street over from me when I lived in Idaho. I was tempted to just bring it to him, but glad I had the security of the proof of delivery

·2 years agoYou know what price point you are willing to lose if the buyer or their doorman is dishonest and the buyer claims they didn't receive it. Without tracking you would lose.
Way to stir some NY memories! (Does Zabar's still have aaaah, THAT SMELL,,,,,,,??? )

·2 years agoYou have, I assume, contacted the buyer and asked if it's okay for you to deliver it that way.
Personally, since he has apparently paid the postage, I'd mail it. That way you have tracking.
And there would be no danger of Carlton saying, "What package? No one gave me any package for you."

·2 years agoI hope your buyer appreciates this delivery service and postage refund. If he's dishonest, he can claim "Item not received" and get a refund of the rest of his payment, since you will not have any proof of delivery.
To answer your actual question about packaging: You still should pack the item so it can withstand being dropped or otherwise mishandled.

Btw, I will take a nice loaf of Jewish rye bread and some sesame seed bagles!
