BRING BACK NEGATIVE FEEDBACK OPTION FOR SELLER TO LEAVE FOR BAD BUYERS
Absolute joke that buyers can just ignore the listing they win and there is nothing sellers can say! I leave + feedback with nasty comments as a warning to other, it's the only option. Ever since ebay took away sellers ability to leave negative feedback, non paying bidders has skyrocketed!

That way, if some SOB leaves me a negative I can leave them a negative right back!

·1 year agoThe ability to leave buyers a negative feedback has been gone for many years now. It will never come back. Other sites do similar just in a different way. Most sites won't let you see the feedback a buyer left you until you have left feedback for them. That prevents retaliatory feedback.
Honestly, feedback needs to go away completely. It is relic of eBay from 20 years ago when there were no buyer protections in place. It really means almost nothing anymore.
mam98031
·1 year agoMost similar sites to this one don't even have buyer feedback at all.

·1 year agoAre you not cancelling, citing "buyer did not pay" as the reason?
soh.maryl
·1 year agoSo you're unaware that, when you leave a negative positive FB for a buyer, that buyer can easily have it removed and you, as a seller, will have a defect?
mam98031
·1 year agoWhile the OP can get sanctioned for the behavior, it does not create a "defect". Unfortunately it does not look like to many buyers knew they could report and have it removed as there is still plenty of them there.
gurlcat
·1 year agoNo, if it was a defect or even a "strike" or "ding" you would be able to see it documented, and if there were numerous such items you would see them quantified, and there would be a stated policy with specific numbers for tolerance versus consequence, as there are for all the other behaviors we call defects, strikes, or dings. I'm not saying a seller could do false positives on buyers countless times with impunity, but the precise truth is clear as mud. I once started a thread about it, and you can see how hairy it got 😆

·1 year agoThere was that option here a few years ago with a different forum provider. It became a Jr. High atmosphere real fast. Some people would dog-pile on someone they disagreed with. It was ugly. Glad that's gone!

·1 year ago@annadryl,
wasn’t that back when Lithium was running the boards. I remember that, before Khoros took over.
mam98031
·1 year agoIMHO that would cause a mess in the threads. Posters that don't like it when others disagree with them. Doesn't matter if they were right, some people can't see past their own words. Or those that don't like what someone said, even though it was the truth. Or so many other reasons that I think it would just cause more conflict and likely cause others to think that if there is a thumbs down, the info offer was wrong. And that won't be the truth in many cases.

·1 year agoThis song sums up the situation -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKpQRjj_WbU behind that song is the fact that population of the world is estimated to be as of 2024, 8.2 billion people (and still growing) and each are different as they followed different foot steps but with some common threads. e.g. In my family there were three of us, off springs of homesteaders in the S.W corner of North Dakota and later a steel worker near Detroit, Michigan. My bride of 41 years wives family there were 5 off springs parents were share croppers and Church of Christ preacher in Central Texas. We all had/have different viewpoints on many things/issues as each offspring followed vastly different paths - e.g I had 21 different mailing addresses after college graduation/ have been to 42 of the 50 US states and 5 foreign countries at least twice,. IMO it would be a boring world if we all thought the same way.. And "ain't" no one person has all the answers to every issue. Never met any one person or eve just rubbed elbows that earned all A's or 4.0's on their report cards or college transcripts in all there formal educational years.
Some might have pretended that they did..
In a nutshell we all see things in a different light - recall a Doug Stone song about that -

·1 year agoI think there should be a thumbs-down 'unhelpful' feedback option for Community posts.
gurlcat
·1 year agoThumbs up if you read this and knew that I was joking.
🙄
fbusoni
·1 year agoI figured you might be joking, but personally, I think it's a grand idea.
Sometimes a thumbs down is a useful indicator of forum sentiment... far easier to register for another forum participant who might be in a hurry, and far easier for other forum participants to digest than, say, a lengthy discourse on why someone disagrees, which precious few will take the time to read.
Of course, a thumbs down can lead to hurt feelings... and post-COVID, we can have absolutely NONE of that.
mam98031
·1 year agoAnd those can discount actual correct info, just because someone doesn't want to support the poster or maybe is too mad to see past their feelings at the moment, etc. IDK if hurt feelings is a big reason, certainly it would happen, but most know that no matter what someone says, it isn't personal as we don't know each other in that way.
IMHO it would degrade the value of the Community and cause more confusion over informative posts.

·1 year agoWho do you think reads feedback?
Not the buyer.
They know what happened and don't care.
Not eBay.
They do not use FB to measure member accounts. Not only is FB voluntary. Not only do less than 40% of transactions get any FB. But also FB is an opinion on how the transaction went.
Not your fellow sellers.
They never see buyer feedback because less than 15% of transactions are Auctions. Most are FixedPrice or Buy It Now/auction and the seller meets the buyer after the purchase has been made.
The only reader will be your future customer.
Who will hit the backbutton when they see how you badmouth other customers.
Remember only you can see the identity of the buyer.
12345jamesstamps
·1 year agoInteresting...leaving negative comments on a positive feedback and nothing yet has happened to them being taken off...looks like artificial intelligence or customer service overlooks such remarks nowadays.
I would just block the buyer and not leave any feedback on the buyer's purchase.
mam98031
·1 year agoThe difference is simple. They haven't been caught yet. It is as simple as that. Ebay does not want sellers doing this. It is however surprising that more of those buyers haven't reported them.

·1 year agoMy favorite from back in the day, were the really vicious comments from both sides.
Publically, calling someone a liar, thief, cheat, scammer, piece of garbage (ahem), etc. not only demeaned the poster but I felt it demeaned ebay.
Who wanted to buy or sell on a venue where that type of response was allowed? Finally, ebay woke up.
gurlcat
·1 year agoMaybe eBay woke up regarding allowing it to go both ways, but I still see plenty of buyers calling sellers derogatory nouns and accusing them of derogatory verbs, in their negative feedbacks. Same goes for the follow-up replies from sellers responding to negs. Downright VULGAR stuff sometimes.
cityslickercreations2004
·1 year agoI stand corrected. I haven't run across the name calling in a very long time.
Ebay exercises such tight control over so many other aspects, I am disappointed they still allow this behavior to continue.
gurlcat
·1 year agoWell there's a difference between allowing and being aware of. From what I can tell, other than the George Carlin list of swear words, it doesn't appear there's much auto-detection of abusive language in feedback comments. However I'm certain that many of the ones I was talking about WOULD be removed if brought to an employee's attention. Problem is so many people (buyers and sellers) don't know how to do that.

·1 year ago@tickofthewrist
You seem quite pleased with yourself. If I were you I'd be ashamed and embarrassed.
I recall reading the eBay policy on sellers who do what you have done and I remember it being quite harsh.
I suspect that one day you will log on and find that your account has been terminated. It's only a matter of time before eBay's AI bots discover your negative comments embedded in multiple positive feedbacks.
And regarding what to me is perhaps the most revealing bit of the sentence above -- "it's the only option" -- that's true if one is unable to act rationally or otherwise regulate one's emotions.
I don't expect you will ever buy from me but I'm blocking you just in case.
bonanza125
·1 year ago"I leave + feedback with nasty comments as a warning to other, it's the only option."
Positive feedback which has nasty comments made for buyers will get removed. Ebay removed negative feedback for buyers cause they want to welcome buyers. If you have an issue with a buyer there is a system in place. Let Ebay handle the situation with a buyer not you. If a buyer doesn't pay just file a "non paying bidder" against the buyer and relist the item. Ebay has made it to where if a buyer makes an offer on an item the listing doesn't end without payment. As a seller you just have to take emotion out of the transaction and look at it as a business transaction. They pay you ship. They don't pay you relist. It's very simple. The rest let Ebay deal with.
ocean-state-mint
·1 year agoIt almost never fails. I get hundreds of positive reviews and get a negative review, usually for something that is their fault or some kind of shipping mishap by the post office. It seems the second that the time is up to go back to 100%, here comes some dolt that instead of contacting you, leaves a negative review. I even send a nice flyer with it asking if they could contact me FIRST if there is a problem with their order...needless to say, some people will always want to be keyboard heroes, it's an unfortunate and hard to swallow pat of selling online. Just keep selling and let it pass, cheers!
gloryglorygifts
·1 year agoYIKES! You cannot leave a positive with a negative comment for any buyer. That is strictly against policy and ebay will take action against you as a seller.
When you cancel the sale for non-payment that is when you report the buyer. That's the only place that you can do it and I suggest that you do that rather than breaking the feedback policy. If they rack up enough of them, ebay will restrict or suspend their accounts. They also will not be able to bid on items that sellers have blocked for non-payers.
If you have that much of a problem with non-payers, I suggest that you make your items buy it now with payment immediately. That will help. Good luck to you.
slippinjimmy
·1 year agoFYI - It's sellers like you that are the reason eBay no longer (for the past 17 years) allowed sellers to give buyers anything other than Positives or nothing.
tinsoldierunderground
·1 year agoAgreed. OP's false positive/negs are inflammatory to say the least.
oldwestgold
·1 year agoYes, it is a shame. I just received three returns in one day. The most ever. All three were filed the very next day after I shipped them. All buyers stated they changed their minds, and one stated he didn't like it. They hadn't even received it yet! All from Florida. I'm wondering if this is a scam and if I will get back my inventory. I had this very same thing happen a few months ago when someone bought an item and filed a chargeback the day after I mailed it. I never saw the item returned, etc. I have opened USPS intercepts on all three, but I have never been successful with the USPS returning them to the sender.
IMO, eBay needs to do away with the feedback system altogether. It doesn't mean anything. They will never change it back so the seller can leave appropriate FB so just dump the whole FB thing. It's a waste of time and only creates frustrations.
deltilogical
·1 year agoAre you shipping with tracking? If the shipment doesn't show delivered and is still in transit, doesn't the system knock out their request? Or isn't the system that smart?
Not sure what you are selling but it sounds hinky to me. Is it all the same address in Florida?>

·1 year agoFB is meaningless. That is why I have turned on automatic buyer feedback.
Most of the buyers who read FB are buyers I'd rather not have.
Darned if I would take a metrics hit by cancelling a sale because some thin skinned seller has offended a buyer and the seller left negative or pseudo-negative FB. I might look at what the seller sells and might remember that he fails AITA should I buy anything like he sells.

It's been that way for over a decade, and eBay is still here. IMHO eBay will not change this.
I leave + feedback with nasty comments as a warning to other, it's the only option
IMHO intentionally violating eBay policy is not a good option.
Ever since ebay took away sellers ability to leave negative feedback, non paying bidders has skyrocketed!
Not for me. I haven't had a non-payer in years.
fern*wood
·1 year agoNo skyrocket here. I haven't had a non paying buyer in years.
nobody*s_perfect
·1 year agoLOL, that happened in 2008, about a year after you registered. Do you think perhaps there might be other reasons why nonpayers have "skyrocketed"? Have they really? The proportion of fixed price listings has definitely skyrocketed since 2008, and sellers can require immediate payment and never have to deal with nonpayers at all.
Anyway, over the years eBay has improved sellers' options for excluding nonpayers and for requiring immediate payment. That's all they're going to do, they're absolutely not going to reinstate sellers' ability to leave negative ratings for buyers. I share the other posters' astonishment that your buyers haven't gotten those negative/positive comments removed.

What good is negative feedback for buyers? What's the purpose?
Someone buys, they pay and you send. If they want to return said item, they return and you relist.
I have IPR on my listings, so it's not like I'm going to know someone is a "bad buyer". Why would I check their feedback?
oldwestgold
·1 year agoOthers would disagree. Everyone is entitled to their opinions.
cardxcraft
·1 year agoeBay would need to add a filter for sellers to apply in order for negative feedback to have any merit, in regards to straight BIN. But, BIN with offers would allow a seller to be more selective. Some sellers use BIN with offers to a degree at the moment: looking at the what type of feedback a buyer leaves. You're right though, all a buyer has to is buy.
tarotfindsandmore
·1 year agoThere is absolutely no benefit to anyone in sellers leaving negs for buyers. Other sellers can't see the user ID of other seller's buyers so you can't "warn" anyone about a buyer. In addition to that, all the practice does is create a scenario in which the seller ends up looking like a complete jerk. It's unprofessional, obnoxious, and pointless. Feedback is meant for buyers. Buyers want to know how sellers conduct business. They don't care about other buyers.
If you have a truly abusive buyer on your hands, report it to ebay. Buyers do receive defects for non-payment, feedback extortion, and returns scams. Buyers do have the right to be unhappy with their purchases. When this happens, sellers are supposed to try to make things right (just like any other business), not get into a **bleep**-for-tat with buyer.
oldwestgold
·1 year agoI would disagree. Leaving negative FB for a buyer would show in their FB score even though sellers could not see their ID.
tarotfindsandmore
·1 year agoBut we still wouldn't know who it was until AFTER the person bought an item from us...at which point there's nothing you can do about it. Unless it's an auction, you have no idea who your buyer may be. As a seller, what would you do with the information that your buyer has a lower feedback score? You can't cancel and there's no way you can prevent a registered user from buying your items.
All of this hostility towards buyers strikes me a huge waste of energy. It's hard enough competing with other good, experienced sellers without demonizing buyers. There will always be annoying buyers, but it's a very small price to pay for the freedom that this life affords us, IMHO.
mam98031
·1 year agoI think you may believe that more sellers check a buyer's feedback than actually do. I never even look at the FB page unless I am having a problem with the buyer. I certainly don't have the time to vet every buyer that purchases from me.
The most telling thing about a buyer IMHO is the feedback they leave for others.
These are business transactions NOT personal transaction. There is good reason why this option was taken away from sellers as many abused it. Way too many abused it. It is never a good idea for a business to publicly shame a buyer. Which is why most sites like this one also do not allow negative FB for the buyer.
Heck I wish Ebay would do what most sites like this did YEARS ago. Simply cut OUT feedback for buyers all together. Sellers would no longer have any way to leave feedback for buyers at all.
Unavailable member
·1 year agoNon paying bidders wouldn't "skyrocket" if you are cancelling transactions citing buyer didn't pay. They get an unpaid item strike, which would help other sellers that have their buyer requirements set to block buyers with 2 unpaid item strikes within 12 months. If you aren't doing that then you are part of the problem.
eBay removed the option to leave negative or neutral feedback to buyers 16 years ago because of sellers like you who want to retaliate by leaving negative feedback.
Leaving positive feedback with a negative comment is against eBay's feedback policy.
discountedrealgold
·1 year agoI block buyers and still able to bid and buy. Ebay has lots of error Algorithm that they cant even fix.
mam98031
·1 year agoIf your BBL is not working properly, you need to report this to Ebay as a technical issue as it should work. Now buyers get around the BBL by using a different account to purchase with, that unfortunately is extremely hard for a seller to detect.
12345jamesstamps
·1 year agoBuyers can create a 'guest account' and still buy from a seller...which 'guest accounts' scare me when I get one.
And those sellers who only want to ship in the USA and yet we have 'freight forward' in the USA to other countries.
'algorithms that they can't even fix'...can't or don't want to?...LOL
candd205
·1 year agoI took a little peek. Wow, that is some entertaining negative feedback. I'm surprised the buyers don't contact eBay to get that removed.
glorybells
·1 year ago@candd205,
Agreed! If buyers take the time to look at the sellers feedback left, I would think it would make them hesitant to purchase from a seller who leaves retaliatory feedback comments.

·1 year agoLeaving neg VERBIAGE is not allowed and the seller that does this could be sanctioned, either a slap to full banning from being a seller on the site.
It has been determined that it is NOT good business to talk bad about customers (Walmart does not put a face pic in the window saying 'bad customer!').
Therefore, this being a 'selling site'; that will NEVER EVER EVER change.
