booksellers: a word to the wise
Try as much as you can to avoid my mistake of being macho about heavy boxes, I caried often 2 bankers' books in at time despite being a short woman. Lots of moving in and out of the car, up and down stairs. Now at 64 my knees are shot. I"m normally a humorous person but now I can't recall the laugh time I smiled. I got rid of my books except for a lot to lot up at auction but I am asking myself how that will even be possible.

It's an Indian spice from India...and have you ever seen people from India with bad knees? I haven't.

Take care of those knees, keziak, I've been nursing broke ribs this summer and just when I thought they had healed a big steer, (excited over donuts), was throwing his head around and poked me right in the ribs with his big bony head. I was feeling it yesterday after moving just 12 boxes of books. Had to put the brace back on this morning when I went back for a dozen more.

·Aug 7, 2026 at 11:04 PM · EditedI recall a natty little man who came strolling into Powell's Books one day with a equally natty little wheeled cart in tow to sell his books. He reminded me of that person on the old Book Board who said that he crashed Washington DC parties.
Anyway, I remember wondering at the time what source a guy like that has, (that I'll never see), as I stood there fumbling around with a couple of cardboard boxes.
And, come to think of it I can not imagine the gentleman at Powell's that day ever using a cardboard box (much less picking one up.)

At least he was really happy to come back from a trip to find no more books and only a few remaining bookcases in the basement. I haven't finished cleaning and straightening the box room. I don't have the heart.
