Blocking a buyer after they receive item
Hey y’all - looking for input on this situation. I had a buyer with an item that was delayed in arriving by 4 days ($435) item. I proactively offered him a $40 discount for the delay. He was ok at first but then less than a day later flipped out demanding a $100 refund. I reported him and then I did provide the $100 refund as I didn’t want to hear from him again and wanted this to be over. A few days after he received the item he kept messing me saying he was still upset. I ignored it and then blocked him from messaging. It seems like he wants something else etc. long story short, now that the transaction is done and delivered will he still be able to message me now that it’s delivered?

·1 year agoWas this item sent right before the last holiday or after? It seems like after the holiday there was a major backup of mail / packages because it took 2 days for my PO to scan my package and it seems to me mail is also been delayed a couple days. Sorry, you made this mistake by refunding money to this buyer. You did not have to refund the buyer anything for the slow / delayed, mail delivery, but $40 was a good enough good gesture for a package of that price. $100 was way too much and the buyer took advantage of your good nature. Next time, don't do this because you could lose your shirt. Lesson learned.

·2 years agoI would not have refunded him anything. Aren't you nice.
Just ignore his emails.
Block the buyer and block him from messaging you.

·2 years agoYou're not responsible for delivery delay. Did you upload tracking#? Did you ship with signature required? I would have for a $400+ item.
You should have never refunded $100 especially after reporting them. Who knows what they will try next. Filing a false claim with eBay or their C.C.
Just add them to your block list. Did you ever entertain reviewing the buyer's profile and all feedback before shipping? Especially for sellers.

·2 years agoSo many mistakes..but you'll learn
1.) buyers buy and carriers deliver. Sellers, although 'responsible' for delivery, just means they are responsible to deliver. The 'amount' of days is obviously out of your control so you needed to tell that 'buyer' that 'typical delivery by UPS, Fedex, USPS is 2 to 10 business days.
2.) NEVER NEVER offer a refund
3.) NEVER NEVER give a refund.
Like you said; if buyer wants to 'open' a 'return', let em. Refund when you get it.

·2 years agoLatest info posted by an eBay blue is that blocking an ID blocks all communication from a buyer even if they were involved in a transaction with you.
The "block communication" that can either be selected, or not selected is now inoperative.
Problem is. Apparently, a buyer is not shown that the communication is blocked, and it appears to them that the seller is ignoring them.

OP2 years agoOhhh so you are saying that if they do message I won’t receive it and on their end it will appear I am just ignoring them. TLDR I’m fine if they open a request or return as I feel I’ve made fair accommodations for a delay

·2 years agoThe first mistake you made was offer him a refund. Yes, it is your job to get it there on time, but a four day delay is no big deal. If the buyer filed a claim, the item would have gotten there before the claim was escalated.
And no, you cannot block someone for a transaction you have with them. Ignore the buyer. He has no claim. If he is unhappy still, tell him to return it for a full refund.

·2 years agoThere is a window (30 days?) where the buyer could contact you before the block kicks in. Wait for other replies...

OP2 years agoAhh got it. Thank you!
I am just going to continue to ignore him and if he wants to open a request or a return I’ll let that run its course, but guessing he doesn’t want to do that seeming if he returns it the item won’t be in the same sealed condition and unregistered. Guessing he wants something else but doesn’t want to draw attention to it

·1 year agohi...Reading about your problem....How did it end up being resolved? Refunding, as you've seen for a 4 day delay was extremely nice of you-especially the amount you literally gave them- but also shouldn't have been done. I'm proud to say that my buyers appreciate the effort I put into customer care. I've had a few disgruntled buyers try that tactic, with the threat that they'll return it if I didn't cave. I always call their bluff and say that if you're not 100% satisfied, I'd be happy to take back the item. They know you'll eat the shipping charge, so if its a valuable item or a fragile item, it becomes sort of a liability and they know they have some leverage. 99.5% of buyers are honorable, but its that .5 that try to game you that really gets under my skin. Best policy is to try to be understanding and talk them off the ledge, but if you don't see that happening, take back the item, quickly rather than letting the buyer stew....Ebay financially penalizes you if those returns go south, and its very costly over the long run....Better to just take it back and avoid a negative if you're up against an impossible to please, unreasonable buyer.
