Subject: Urgent Request for Review and Refund – Improper Charge and UPS-Damaged Item
Dear eBay Support,
I am writing to request an immediate review of my case and a full correction of the charges applied to my account. My bank card was charged before the damaged item was even returned, and despite my explanation that the seller’s payment was still on hold, the agent proceeded to charge me prematurely. At no point had I received any payment from eBay for this transaction.
The item in question was damaged by UPS before it ever left the Minneapolis, MN UPS Store where it was originally dropped off. The charge applied to my account was listed as “Business Service – Not Elsewhere Classified,†which does not accurately reflect the situation.
I paid $300.00 for shipping, yet the tracking number showed no movement for 10 days. After multiple calls to UPS, I was repeatedly told they were “trying to locate the damaged item.†Eventually, I discovered the item had been sitting the entire time in Maple Grove, Minnesota, exactly where the tracking indicated.
When I asked UPS if I could retrieve the package myself, two employees brought it out. Several parts that were included in the shipment were missing, and I have never received those missing parts. Despite the item never leaving Maple Grove, UPS still sent eBay an additional request for $200.00 more.
At this point, I am out approximately $1,400.00, including shipping costs and the value of the damaged item. This situation has caused significant financial and mental stress, and I am asking eBay to correct the premature charge and assist in recovering the full amount owed.
I respectfully request:
- A full review of the premature charge to my account
- Reversal of the charge applied while the seller’s payment was still on hold
- Assistance in recovering the shipping costs and compensation for the damaged and missing parts
- Clarification on why my account was charged despite clear evidence of UPS mishandling
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to a prompt resolution.
Sincerely,
Chase

·8 months agoI, too, have had items damaged by UPS. When I tried to file a claim with their insurance, I was told it was not covered because I didn't package it properly. Their word against mine so that was the last time I used UPS.

·8 months agoIf the funds are being held and you don't have the avaliable funds to cover the refund, you have to pay it, then the buyers payment will be sent to you.

·8 months agoAs for payments on hold, that is covered by the user agreement you signed. You essentially agreed that eBay could put a hold on any payment they wanted to.

·8 months agoHi @sheepdoer . We're missing pieces of the puzzle. Below is what I'm extrapolating.
What exactly is the additional $200 charge? If the item never left the UPS drop off point, then it's not likely to be a cost adjustment from UPS. Maybe it's the eBay fees you forfeit by letting them step in on the INR case instead of handling it yourself?
Did you pack the item or drop it off as pictured at UPS, unpacked?

·8 months agoThis sounds like a frustrating situation, but this isn't the best place to post it. You may get a little help from random sellers, but you have to talk to someone from ebay directly about this. That is difficult to do in many cases, admittedly, since they steadfastly avoid phone calls. However, it's possible to request a call from the automated chatbot (although not 100% of the time). Try their contact page at https://www.ebay.com/help/contact_us?id=4871 and click "Chat with our automated assistant" on the left. Then request a call from inside the chat. Once you do get someone, be very clear on the details. Hope you can get this resolved.
