Be persistent & keep your eyes open!
As a seller who has built up a large amount of 'stuff', my advice to you is to be persistent & always look through everything, no matter how small, diligently. I had a small plastic container full of lapel pins. I checked through & found a few metal ball markers, too. However, even after checking through the lot twice, it wasn't until the 3rd time, I discovered this little gem. A 2000 100th US Open Pebble Beach ball marker. At this event, Tiger Woods won his 1st US Open; tied the lowest score in the history of the Open & won by the largest number in Open history - by 15 strokes. I put it online last night & it's selling today. I could have easily passed over this item. Always check thoroughly. 🙂

·1 year agoThis was one I figured would be destined for the trash based on it's condition when I found it. I actually had it in a buy it now for $25 bucks at one point. Just happened to check it out again recently and found a comp of one in good condition that sold for $5,520.

·1 year agoOpen eyes are good, but a loupe is even better. Here's less than the weight of a penny in gold that's only 58.5% pure ...... overlooked by the bulk "junk jewelry" sellers I bought from.

·1 year agoI would not know if that pin was one of 100 or 1000 or 1000, let alone its value.
But far more importantly, I would not have known that this was Tiger Wood's 1st US Open win, and would think that that would have done a lot to help it sell.
And I have to admit, that the last items I would research in a lot of pins would be the sports collectibles. They do not interest me.
That is why many of us can make money with merchandise which other sellers are willing to lot up and make go away.

OP1 year agoThere are 2 on eBay for $20 & 25 US & no one is buying them. I thought I had better go a bit lower so it might sell right away.

I think you did well at $20.00. When the US open was here at Hazeltine the commemorative ball markers were $5.00.

·1 year agoEvery vehicle has "that" part. That one part that's worth blood.
Some have several, but ALL have at least one.
With several hundred normal parts, you just gotta make sure you find it when listing.

·1 year agoI guess I'm weird because if I had a container full of pins, first thing I'd do is empty the whole container then pull each item individually and sort them into categories (like golf or whatever). I'd be unlikely to miss something since I'd be forced to look at every item, give it a preliminary wipe down, and organize it by subject matter. After that I'd do a deeper dive into each small pile and do more thorough cleaning and inspection of items worth selling. 🤷
