avoiding taxes/private sales
Payment through eBay is not considered a private sale. If we are doing the transaction on eBay then my offer is $250 per book because I will have to pay taxes. If you’re good with $250 per book shipped on eBay then I will do the deal.

·2 years agoShipping is not a negotiable part of a Best Offer.
I guess the reasoning is that the cost of shipping is set by and paid to the shipping company.
If the seller did not state Free Shipping* the cost given in the listing is what the buyer will pay.
*which really means their shipping costs are included in the asking price.

·2 years ago@cjlog2003: Aside from the fact that you are addressing a seller discussion group, and not actually negotiating with a seller here, your offer sounds properly made. The seller will need to calculate whether your payment offer will cover his Shipping costs and other expenses, because you can only Make Offer of a purchase price; Shipping costs (if the seller is not offering Free Shipping in the listing) are not negotiable as part of your offer.
Just to be clear: You are looking at an actual eBay listing for sale, right? This is not in reply to a posting on another forum such as Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace? Whatever you are negotiating for should be an actual listing on eBay, not an item being offered elsewhere.

·2 years agoIs the buyer sending you emails to your email account?
If so, you can just mark the email as "Spam" in your email account. Your email provider should then block all messages from that email address that they send in the future. Then you an just ignore them.
Or is the buyer sending you messages to your eBay messages?

·2 years agoOh, okay, sorry, your original posts have become so heavily edited that it's impossible to fathom what the issue was, so thank you for clarifying that. I understand now that you're the seller, and that quote came from the buyer.
An offline deal may not end well, so you should ignore attempts to reach you via methods that eBay cannot "see." If you are asked to text someone, that can reveal your phone number to them, leading to fake payment notifications, messages pretending to be from eBay but actually are not, or simply direct phone calls in reply. If that's where the buyer offers are leading, just stop responding.
I don't see any current listings by you. Are we talking about a different selling account?

OP ended all their listings (or allowed the auctions to end) earlier this month, after this incident occurred. The listing that prompted the message offer was ended Dec 3. It was a fixed-price listing and was ended early. After a buyer sent an inappropriate offer by message (there are no offers visible on the listing offer history).
OP has already posted several messages about this that can be viewed on their community profile.
Presumably, @cjlog2003 is still receiving messages or emails, which may have prompted them to post about this again after almost a month.

a.) probably a scammer
b.) buyer CANNOT get info on you, so don't worry
c.) You are NOT allowed to 'take off the site' and if you do, even ONCE, you are probably looking at a Perma-ban.
So, just block that person and move on to someone that buys as this site is designed to do.

·2 years agoBut you failed to ask a question- you just posted some 'back and forth' which is not something most can understand.
Guessing; if you are talking about 'sales tax'- that is NOT PART of any 'offer' or 'bid on an auction'. Both Tax and Shipping (if shipping is not shown as Free) will be ADDED to your 'offer' or 'bid'. Always.
If you think that a 'private sale' should NOT be 'taxed' (as in Sales Tax) then you have to buy at a Garage Sale or somewhere local (even Swap Meets are required to get ReSale Licenses from people selling 'new' stuff and said seller is required to 'pay taxes' on items sold ie. usually passing that onto the buyer.
If that is not what you are taling about-do you have a scenario and question to ask??

Can you perhaps return and give all relevant details?
Also, not to be rude (I hope), but, since eBay is pretty much strictly an online venue, don't understand why it would be more difficult for those who are disabled than for anyone else. In fact, I would think this would be the ideal platform for both disabled buyers and disabled sellers.
Hoping to hear more information from you soon.

·2 years agoThere are lots and lots and lots of disabled people here. Both buyers and sellers. However there are no special rules for the disabled. The rules are the same for everyone.
Ebay is required by LAW to collect sales tax when appropriate and remit it directly to the appropriate state. Sellers can't negotiate this, ever!

After reading your previous messages about this, and doing some research, I can see that you were the seller in this situation. You received an inappropriate message from another member, who was trying to get you to accept an offer that would have required you to accept payment off eBay.
Did you stop communicating with the member, as you were advised to do on a previous message? I see that you ended the listing early, that the member sent you a message from.
What do you need help with now? Is there still an issue that you need help with?

·2 years agoIf your value for The Thing is $250 all in then your offer should include what you will pay for sales taxes and shipping.
The latter two are dependent on your location, which the Seller does not see until you have paid and they get your shipping address.
While you pay the sales tax, the Seller's fees are partly based on the amount of the sales tax and on shipping, so doing this also reduces their fees.

·2 years agoActually buyers can not or should not negotiate shipping or sales tax on a best offer. Whatever the buyer offers is for the product only unless the seller is offering Free Shipping. Then of course shipping is included in the price. Sales tax is never negotiable on any transaction.
