·8 months agoFeedback is not a major method of judging seller performance in the opinion of the internet marketplaces which have a seller feedback process.
Less than a third of Ebay transaction result in seller feedback because buyers know they will be refunded if they follow the relevant processes. Why waste time on feedback when you can make an appropriate claim and accomplish something.
Other sites have FB in the low single digits because those sites are thought of in the same way as retail stores. And FB was not invented on those sites, as it was on Ebay.
This is not like the early days of Ebay when Ebay was entertainment as well as shopping, and this is not the days of rampant seller fraud as it was in the early days of Ebay.
A negative FB is as likely to appear on an honest, ethical seller's account as it will on a slimeball's account. If the buyer is unhappy he leaves a negative, whether anyone else would be unhappy or not.
Product reviews on other marketplaces are as unreliable as FB. Amazon's Rufus bot answers questions about products. When asked many questions the response by Rufus is that there are buyers who say one thing and other buyers who say another. Like "is it reliable?" "Some buyers say yes, and some say no?
Some sellers add value to what they sell by how they prepare the item for sale, and how they handle the transactions. They may point to their feedback as proof they are offering superior service. The buyers who did not leave FB may not have seen any value in the seller's service, and they are the majority of buyers on the internet.
The automatic FB is neutral in its content and has the value of showing just how many orders the seller has shipped, which puts the positive FB in an appropriate context as a minority opinion, and often makes the negatives seem like a rounding error.
Not all sellers need external validation, and not all buyers need the opinions of strangers to make a buying decision.
Ebay made a decision which it knew would disturb the minority who think FB is useful.

·8 months agoAre you not liking the 130 auto feedback you've received from Ebay?

OP8 months agoRight I always had 100% with both my business I don't play games and I don't need any fake feedback and if there is a reason someone does that's their problem not ebay's job to come up with some creative way to fool people

·8 months agoHere's the thing...nothing you're complaining about is a violation of ebay policy. If your competition is so sloppy and careless, he's doing you a favor as he represents one less real competitor. His crummy pics should delight you as it only makes you shine more.
You, on the other hand, actually are violating ebay policy with your very lovely (I mean that sincerely) pics.
So, maybe less energy should be dedicated to mr. sloppypants and more attention should be paid to your own business practices. Fortunately for both of you, ebay is pretty lax about enforcing any of this, which is probably a good thing for all of us as it's quite easy to cast stones while perched in our own little glass houses.

OP8 months agooh wow i wasn't aware of this it makes me wonder if me doing the border is actually hurting my organic traffic because I do struggle to get my listings to come up in google shopping with everyone else this could be a issue thank you for bringing it to my attention!

·8 months agoThat's an excellent point. I'd forgotten about those rules too. There was another poster recently complaining about their auctions not receiving any views and I noticed they had verbiage all over their photos. I found it really distracting, but now I feel it needs to be pointed out to them too in case it was hurting them.
P.S. To the OP, when you look at other seller's feedback you can uncheck the automated feedback so you don't see them.

·8 months agoI do not think eBay is "going out of their way to cover up his bad business practices".
In fact, I suspect eBay is responding to years and years of seller complaints that eBay was "going out of their way to cover up good business practices" because most buyers who have a good experience never leave feedback.
That aside ...
I do think that counting the lack of feedback as feedback is misleading.
IMHO a seller's feedback percentage is no longer a feedback percentage ... it is now just a "non-negative transaction count".

OP8 months agobasically ebay is turning into the walmart of the early 2000's hey its ok we only sell garbage we'll give you your money back don't worry! Just waste your time until you stop shopping here!
console_king16
OP8 months agowell let me try and help you understand he sells actual garbage broken stained cloth parts and when someone complains he gives them a full immediate refund they even say so in their feedback he sends out garbage and gives the people their money back and the few who still leave negative feedback are now getting buried under all this automated **bleep**. is that the ebay experience you want for yourself or your family? I have a hard time understanding why so many people are confused.
jonathanbrightlight
·8 months agoI don’t think anyone is confused. They just disagree. Why is selling “garbage†such an issue? One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. The first item ever sold on eBay was a broken laser pointer. If the buyer’s aren’t leaving negative feedback, and you think he deserves it, what is your proposal? That eBay offers automated negative feedback?

·8 months agoSecond observation....
So, this Guy is selling so much out there that what "few" Negatives he gets is quickly buried by all the other Positive and Automatic Feedbacks he's getting, and that is what you have an issue with. The many many many "Automatics" he's getting is burying the Few "Negatives" he's getting giving you the opinion that he's a "Bad Seller".
I wouldn't say your issue is with the Automatic Feedback system. Your issue is that he's outselling you, with an inferior product than yours, your opinion only, and you just don't like it. Right.
Yeah, we got you. We get it now. 😅

OP8 months agoya buddy he sells twice as much for half the price as me and works twice as hard as me and all i'm asking is ebay take quality into consideration somewhere I mean I am able to sell at double the price and pay double the fee's where is my reward?
automated feedback is for the guys who get negative feedback and needs ebay to do something to offset it period. its not created for me its created for people who get negative feedback what part of that is hard for people to understand?
tarotfindsandmore
·8 months agoThat is not correct. It was implemented to give buyers a better overall picture of the volume a seller is selling because most buyers (well over half) don't leave any feedback at all. A buyer can go back and leave a negative even after ebay has left automatic feedback for up to sixty days. Your logic is completely flawed.

·8 months agoHe's into Quantity. Quick turnaround. In and Out. Ebay allows that. The "Few" Negatives he's gotten just means those Buyers will not Buy from him again. He's obviously doing something right if he's having all these "Content" Customers not complaining, also not leaving Feedback, that all these Automatics are burying the Negatives with. He has a Business Model that works. Good for him.
You're into Quality. Better Product. Higher Prices. Higher Prices means Less Sales. Your main complaint here is that he's outselling you. WHY are these people Buying his "Crap" over my "Diamonds". That's what your issue is.
"....automated feedback is for the guys who get negative feedback and needs ebay to do something to offset it period. its not created for me its created for people who get negative feedback what part of that is hard for people to understand?"
What a load of crap. You see my "30" up there on this New Account? 16 of those are Automatic. Do you also see any "Negatives" that those 16 Automatics are covering up? No you do not. If it weren't for those Automatics, I would be sitting at only 14 Feedbacks over a 6 month time period. Those Automatics are helping build a somewhat "Reputation" on ebay to help possible Buyers judge me better. I did those Buyers right, and even though they didn't bother honoring me for doing them right, ebay is showing me some respect for not only doing them right, but doing ebay right also by giving me the simple "Order delivered on time with no issues" Automatic Feedback.
What part of that is so hard for you to understand?
iamalwaysright
·8 months ago“Where is my reward?†Um, how about reward being half your lifetime for you to do whatever you want and not have to spend it all working?
iamalwaysright
·8 months agoSo you’re saying this seller gets all their negative feedbacks buried by automated positive feedbacks, correct? You’re positive that there aren’t any truly sincere manual positive feedbacks in that mix? I mean why would there be if he’s doing exactly what you are saying and scamming all his buyers. If there are no manual positives, that means this guy just PO’s all his buyers to either write a negative or just ignore him by not leaving feedback at all. Man I’d actually love to see a seller doing this on eBay, and selling high volume no doubt with not one single manual positive feedback. It’ll be like finding a unicorn or Bigfoot.
console_king16
OP8 months agoWell I had no idea they had that automated feedback garbage on my feedback aswell I dont want it! I earn my feedback by not being scammy and not taking my photos 10 feet away with high brightness his customers do complain and that's what they are covering up its just a bunch on non sense obviously made to cover up bad business practices you guys are looking at my console king feedback but the business i'm talking about is actually my other ebay account which is also 100% feedback I work hard to give ebay a good reputation and name I don't need them being creative coming up with ways to cover up the bad sellers.
tarotfindsandmore
·8 months agoHow is it covering up anything? Negs are still negs and we're all getting the same automated feedback. The playing field absolutely could not be more level. Your "competition" has no advantage here. If their overall number is higher than yours, it's because they've sold more items. If you want your score to go up, sell more stuff.
Personally, I don't care one way or the other about the automated feedback. Potential buyers can read and differentiate between "real" feedback and automated.
dhbookds
·8 months agocover up the bad sellers.
If BUYERS considered them bad sellers........wouldn't they post negs or at least neutrals? Ebay isn't replacing any buyer feedback with the auto feedback.
Just a general point........Not everyone thinks the way we, as individuals, do...... If the other guy is cheaper, some will buy just on that point.
soh.maryl
·8 months agoAgain, that auto FB for sellers was announced before it was instituted.
Buyers are still free to leave negatives for unsatisfactory transactions or to open INR or NAD cases.
Presumably that auto FB is left by eBay for sellers because there appear to have been no issues with the transactions. Hard to understand why this is such an issue for you.
hotwheelsbum
·8 months agoHow is automatic feedback a way to cover "Bad Sellers"? If a Buyer has a Bad Experience with a Seller, a "Bad Seller" that can be exposed with Buyer leaving Negative for that Bad Seller. If Buyer does not leave any Feedback whatsoever, Negative or Positive, then Buyer was obviously satisfied with the Seller, the part, and the experience.
Automatic Feedback comes from ebay. It really doesn't reflect the interaction between the Buyer and Seller, nor the item sold in the listing. Seller has an obligation to ebay to get Buyers item to them in a timely matter, and without any issues. Since over 50% of Buyers today do not bother with Feedback, ebay is now giving Sellers Feedback themselves. That's what "Order delivered on time with no issues" means. Seller fulfilled their obligation to ebay, not the Buyer, and ebay is satisfied.
Plus, without seeing your Competitors listings that you have an issue with, as a Buyer, I would probably buy from your Competitor over You. You're trying to make your listings look like Autozone, O'Reilly's, Rock Auto. You are not. Your listings all look like Stock Photos. Doctored Up. Photo Shopped. You're selling USED parts, not New. Why are all your listing photos doctored up like that? Sure, the pictures IN the listings may be of the actual part, but your Main Pictures, your Display Pictures, all look like you're a Seller from China. Listings that I scroll on past looking for YOUR COMPETITORS Listings that show what the USED part actually is. So what if I have to clean it a little bit, at least their listings shows what I will actually be getting, not some part that may different than what the pictures show due to all the editing those pictures have had, for USED auto parts.

·8 months agoNothing has really changed, buyers look at a sellers bad FB, not the good FB and FB is not displayed to buyers in chronological order.
I have 1 neg that I got 7 months ago and if you look at my FB under a item my 7 month old neg will be the 3rd or 4th down, it was on top consistently for 6 months despite hundreds of positive FB since then.

·8 months agoFocus on what you can control.
If you spend as much time improving your business as you do complaining about your competition, I have no doubt you will have great success in 2026.
If your competitor is as inept as you say, then they will be paying the price for it.

·8 months agoI would not worry about how your competitors list their items, If their listing looks terrible that should play in your favor, So why complain?

·8 months agoI'm sure you realize you have received 130 automated positive feedbacks. Do you feel the same about some of those?

You have glowing feedbacks and your customers are obviously happy with you, your listings and your service. Why are you so obsessed about your competition?
A lot of people are scared of clowns.

·8 months agoIf he is not getting negatives, his parts must work, even though they are dirty. I guess it depends on the part. If its a engine part, does it matter if it is dirty. If a visible part like for an interior, that would certainly matter. Maybe the time he/she saves by not cleaning is translated into lower prices. idk
bonanza125
·8 months agoWhy worry about what other sellers do? Focus on your business. I get competitors or buyers who contact me and if they need extras as in pictures or to clean an item off I do it whatever is needed. I never worry about what other feedback sellers get.
colnwan_0
·8 months agoI understand your frustrations, but at the end of the day, your 'spotless' parts and consistent photos are your best insurance. While they might hide a negative comment, they can’t hide a high return rate or a high 'Item Not As Described' count forever. Those metrics eventually catch up to sellers who hide stains or damage. Keep doing what you’re doing, high-volume buyers, especially in your niche, look for sellers exactly like you because they can’t afford the downtime of receiving a dirty or broken part.
soh.maryl
·8 months ago"While they might hide a negative comment . . ."
No one is hiding any negative comments, If/when a seller has not received feedback from a seller after a few days, and it appears to eBay that the transaction was satisfactory, that's when eBay leaves an automated positive feedback. If that buyer was unhappy with his transaction, he could have left a negative or opened a case per the MBG.

·8 months agoUnfortunately it's not uncommon that some seller's gain an unfair or unjust advantage for themselves when selling on ebay , more buyers need to undertake appropriate action.
Let's hope that will happen

·8 months agoWhere do you pick your parts ? I thought about going down to peekapart and strip some cars but I can't seem to leave my recliner. You would think most interiors are trashed at the junkay yards. Walking long rows to find some uncommon parts would seem like fun though. I still have my dealership blues clothing that I haven't worn in 20 years. Jaguar Greens too
Reminiscing when I was young and agile and fast. Today I turn a very slow wrench.

·8 months agoPardon me, but I do not understand your complaint.
Maybe you don't exactly understand how auto FB works.
If there appear to be no issues between buyer and seller, but the buyer leaves no FB, eBay gives the auto FB.
If buyers find that the seller has bad business practices, they have the right to leave negatives.
Aren't you proud of your 100% FB?
inhawaii
·8 months agoI'm confused.
You're complaining about feedback and a photo someone left for your competitor?
iamalwaysright
·8 months agoNo. OP is complaining that his competitor takes bad photos of their dirty unclean auto parts and the buyers don’t leave them a negative so automated feedback kicks in and gives them a positive.
And it’s not fair to OP because he spends time clean his auto parts to look pristine and takes immaculate photos of them.
inhawaii
·8 months agoThanks for explaining.
In that case, that's ridiculous.
Concentrate on yourself and the good service you provide.
If your competitor provides poor service, it will eventually catch up to him.
broto_64
·8 months agoMost of us buyers know to look at the listing carefully to spot the bad actors, but if we miss one (and it does happen) then there is always the MBG.
iamalwaysright
·8 months agoIf your competitor’s buyers had a problem with the dirty parts they received, they would leave a negative feedback.
