    Can anyone tell me why you have to send a PSA encased card to an authenticator before shipping to the buyer?

    Because you sold a graded 9 card for $450, the authentication kicked in. They will send it to buyer after it passes.

    Most likely because there are so many counterfeits out there.  It doesn't really matter if it's graded, PSA encased, whatever.  They're everywhere in almost every venue that can be faked & fakes cannot be sold on eBay.
