Auction ended with bid, but showing under "Unsold"
Good morning all,
I have an auction that ended 2 days ago. There was one bid on the auction and whenever I go to the auction page, it says that the item has sold. However, the buyer never received an invoice and I never received notice it sold, as it was not relisted and is now under the "Unsold" tab. I have not encountered this yet and am wondering what may have caused this. Thanks!

Do you have these settings still in the default set to YES/On?
https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/buyerrequirements
Buyer Rules:
*Require buyers to provide a payment method before they place a bid.
*Require buyers to provide a payment method before they make an offer.
Click submit or save.
If you do, and your auction ended with a winner your BUYER should have been auto-billed automatically and the auction paid for. There is no invoicing allowed.
Unless
Their payment method failed (don't know if you get a notice or not)
OR the buyer was presented with an option to defer payment for up to 6 days to over ride the combined shipping debacle that involves the auto/pay auto/billing system from taking the payment immediately and separately for multiple wins (don't know if you get a notice for this either).
OR it is a glitch.
I would use one of these and see what they say. If they direct you to the regular customer service, good luck with that.
Stay tuned, though, someone else may have so other insight and better ideas.

·1 year agoThat is really strange..
Heck of a glitch if that's the case.
Has your buyer gone back to the auction page?
And there's no "pay now" button at the top?

·1 year agoThat's odd, I see that the listing says it sold if I pull it up directly, but it's not showing under your sold items that we can see publicly, nor in the Product Research tool via eBay (two with the exact same title have sold from other sellers in March, but yours doesn't show there). Did you maybe have a Reserve Price set up? I don't remember how that would show up (I wouldn't expect you to have used that feature for this, but there's always a chance it was a mistake).

·1 year agoIf a "sold" item doesn't show up in Marketplace Research (as that one does not) that means that it was either not paid for, or the payment was refunded.
Obviously, the second possibility is not the case here, so it must not have been paid for.
I checked on one of @jaytea151's active auctions, and bidders have to preauthorize the payment in order to make a bid. That means the most likely explanation is that the preauthorized payment method failed when eBay tried to charge it. The buyer should not be expecting an invoice or a request to pay, because they already authorized the payment. (I wonder if they tried to get around that, somehow?)
I would have thought that the buyer would have a Pay Now button in that case, but I can't confirm that.
There have been other threads about confusing results when offers are accepted, but the payment doesn't happen for some reason ... including listings not showing up in searches. I think this is an unintended consequence of the auto-payment methods that eBay has implemented.
Your last sales were April 5th, I don't see any for 2 days ago. You had 5 listings end April 9th without a bidder.
What is the item number to that auction?

OP1 year agoThis one actually ended on the 8th, looking at it now. The item number is 388196366933 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/388196366933). Despite it showing as "Sold" in the listing, it's under my unsold listings tab and neither me nor the seller got notice it successfully sold. I appreciate you taking a look!
I looked at it, it appears it was sold. But not seeing it in your sold items makes me think your buyer hasn't paid.

·1 year agoI thought about that but wouldn't it be listed as sold awaiting payment so a seller can eventually file the non payment if needed?
jaytea151
OP1 year agoThey haven't received a payment request. Typically whenever someone buys it and hasn't paid for it, it sits in the "Awaiting Payment" tab, and this auction never entered that tab. I had no reserve set.
I will ask the buyer to go back to the auction page to verify that they are seeing no "pay now" button, but I'm assuming there isn't as this was brought to my attention initially as they were asking me to send an invoice so they could pay.

If buyer doesn't see the "pay now" link, you could try relisting the item with a BIN price for your auction winner to purchase it. That would at least solve things in a positive way for your buyer.
That still leaves the question: What the heck happened with that auction?
