At Top Of Best Match & No Views
I listed 2 New Original Spirograph 15 Piece Design Sets nearly a month ago and even though my listing is at the top of best match it hasn't been viewed even once. Spirograph are selling so I don't understand why mine which are brand new & still sealed are being ignored.

·8 months agoHaving viewed your listing I am puzzled as to why you are stating (at the very top of your description) that you bought them off Amazon last month. If I was looking for that Spirograph set I would probably have gone straight over to Amazon to see what they want for the set. I know that your question was about why people were not viewing the listing so they would not have seen that wording to begin with but I have to say it was an unusual way to start the description.
As for why people are not viewing the listing my guess would be that you are listing two new sets together and people are more likely looking for just one. I would definitely have listed these (in my selling account) as a single listing for one set and set the Quantity Available to 2 in case someone really did want to get 2 at once.
Just a couple of other comments: Your description states that two USPS shipping methods are available but the only option I see is Ground Advantage. Also USPS is not responsible for 'package condition' - you are. As a seller you are responsible for getting the package to the buyer in the condition in which it was sold. An unhappy buyer can file a Not As Described claim on the basis of shipping damage.
But to conclude I would say that the most likely deterrent is setting up the listing for 2 sets sold together when people usually buy such things one at a time. That is something that people can see in their search results without having to open the listing and thus without incrementing your view count. Good luck.

·8 months agoA pretty common observation.
The best take away is this is not an item which promotion will help.
There is probably a buyer somewhere for this but that buyer has not visited Ebay recently and may be distracted by competitive offers.
Being brand new and sealed may not matter to a buyer who is planning to actually let a kid use the Spirograph.

OP8 months agoUsing just Spirograph as my search term with sold items checked there are 356 sold. I searched using my title & I found 3 sold for $22.49, $23.89 & $35. I am sure if I had kept searching I would've found more. So my price is not out of line. In fact by comparison mine are very low priced.

·8 months agoMy guess is also that no one wants 2 of them.
Also, lots of buyers search by lowest price.
luckythewinner
·8 months agoI found one just like yours that sold for $23.97.
But the comparison is apples to oranges because ..
So if buyers are either choosing (or filtering) based on either free returns, free delivery, or 'New', yours will be passed over.

OP8 months agoebay has always wanted all sellers to ship for free which is ridiculous because most sellers cannot afford to do that. There was a time when ebay was only or mostly just auctions & buyers were collectors & never had to return anything. Also, there are still many successful sellers that don't accept returns because they know their items are exactly as described. I don't know why I had that idiotic box checked as used but I changed it to new. Since you have never been a seller on ebay I doubt you would understand the high costs involved of being an ebay seller. If they do the basic search I did they would see my listing at the top of best match & there should be no reason to not click it unless they don't want 2 of them.

I have six selling accounts, and have been selling on eBay since 1999 with tens of thousands of transactions under my belt. Perhaps you don't understand that a person can have more than one account.
ebay has always wanted all sellers to ship for free which is ridiculous because most sellers cannot afford to do that
If I list an item for $10 with $10 shipping, I can also list that same item for $20 with free shipping at no additional cost. Any seller can afford to offer free shipping, if he rolls the cost of free shipping into his price. Perhaps you don't understand that free shipping does not always mean the buyer pays less.
I don't know why I had that idiotic box checked as used but I changed it to new.
The condition of an item is very important to many buyers, especially collectors. Perhaps you don't understand that some buyers care about condition and do not consider it "idiotic".
If they do the basic search I did they would see my listing at the top of best match & there should be no reason to not click it unless they don't want 2 of them.
Perhaps you don't understand that buyers do not always do the same basic search that you do. If a buyer prefers free shipping, or a new item, or feel more comfortable with a seller who offers returns ('stands behind his product"), then those are three more reasons not to buy your item. And if they use the search filters to apply those preferences, they might not even see your item.

OP8 months agoI don't need 6 accounts & as far as returns go I have never accepted returns in the 23 years I have been selling because I own & I see every item I pack & I take photographs of everything I sell. I am not a retail seller & never have been. I sell & list what use to sell easily but doesn't anymore because of sellers like you that hide their supposed record that I am sure is hiding alot of negative feedback. I pack my items for safe shipping & there is nothing I can do about the USPS cost of shipping which is based on buyer location. I would never rob buyers by adding to the shipping cost. I use calculated shipping & have since it was available on ebay. Don't bother responding to this because I am done responding to this entire post.

·8 months agoI can see kids today turning in their smart phones and tablets for a Spirograph. 😉
jonathanbrightlight
·8 months agoMy kids would, or at least some of them. One would turn up his nose at any kind of art, but being physical instead of digital wouldn’t be the sticking point.

·8 months agoGiven that Spirograph items are actively selling on eBay, it is unclear why my brand-new, factory-sealed listings appear to be receiving no visibility. This does not align with expected search exposure and needs clarification.

·8 months agoIt's anybody's guess!, Search is a very sensitive tool, one little difference in what is typed in can make a big difference in where it is placed.
luckythewinner
·8 months agoBest match placement depends upon the search criteria and the user doing the search.
When I search "spirograph design set" under best match, your listing is at #24.
When I search "spirograph set" under best match, your listing is at #177.

OP8 months agoMy initial search was using just Spirograph & it did come up first in the list. Today when I did my first search using Spirograph it wasn't there a few minutes later I searched the same way & it's second in the list of 4,100. Searching with Spirograph Design Set 15 Piece it is first in a list 1,400. I used spirograph design set & it is first in a list of 467. spirograph set was it was second in a list of 2,400. There were no drill downs in any of my searches. I have lowered the price to $26.00 & if ebay wouldn't rob me of $2.00 I would add in a subtitle that they are brand new & still sealed unlike the other listings for this set that are not complete & used.

·8 months agoI would hazard a guess that those that sold are the vintage ones, not the brand new recent ones.
gurlcat
·8 months ago@gone.c-33 That's a better guess than you may know. Often a preference for vintage over new is just an aesthetic or collecting thing, but with Spirograph I believe there is actually a real quality discrepancy. I remember making really cool designs as a very young child in the late 70's, but then around 2010 when I bought one for my kid ... I don't know what the actual manufacturing difference was but even as an adult I couldn't get it to work very well!
So it's possible that there are lots of other adults out there who have the same experience, trash or return the new set, and go looking for a vintage one.

·8 months agoThere are 952 of them for under $11.
457 of those with free shipping.
You want $40 for 2 + $8.97 shipping.
That might have something to do with no views.

·8 months agoNo views = Nobody is interested.
Sorry to be so blunt.
I apply the same theory to my own stuff.

·8 months agoI used to have one, but I would have no need for two sets. It might be that simple—buyers don’t want to pay for two sets.
gurlcat
·8 months agoTo me this is the most likely answer. No individual (adult buyer) would want 2, so that leaves gifts, probably for kids. Maybe before Christmas somebody would have bought them for 2 grandchildren, nieces/nephews or whatever, but now it's January.
@ourancestorsattic I think you should end this listing and do Sell Similar, but make the new listing a single set with a quantity of 2 available.

A bunch listed at $10 and $15.
