Are up/down votes on the way here?
Summary: gurlcat noticed an old post was unexpectedly bumped and featured up/down voting options similar to Reddit, which is unusual for the forum. dhbookds speculated it might be related to posts marked as "answered," but gurlcat was puzzled by this new feature. nyr134 mentioned changing the background color by interacting with these options, raising concerns it might unintentionally affect locked posts. The participants expressed confusion and dissatisfaction with the changes, with powell-collectibles preferring to avoid voting features due to potential notification overload.
Somebody just bumped this 9-month-old post. https://community.ebay.com/forum/selling-57920/topic/disappointed-after-21-years-of-loyalty-153414/
What's weird is how the replies have up/down (arrows) voting option, like on Reddit. I can't find any other posts with this, current or old. How bizarre!

·2 weeks agoUgh - I don't want voting buttons. I'll have to turn off notifications - that steady stream of upvotes is going to be annoying. I'm not against some measure of adulation, but there is only so much that I can take.

OP2 weeks agoYou wouldn't need to turn off all notifications; there is a choice for whether you get notifications for 'reactions' (like thumbs up, etc.). Surely up/down votes would count as reactions.

·2 weeks agoBy clicking on one, I was able to change the background color. I hope it doesn’t have any effect. The post is supposed to be locked to non-mentors. Maybe it’s an unintended result of converting

OP2 weeks ago · EditedAre you saying this^ is a current post in the Ask A Mentor forum? Can you provide a link to it?
EDIT: Never mind, I found it. So it appears that CURRENT posts in the Ask A Mentor forum have up/down votes for the selected Best Answer, but not any other replies. The post I found and shared in this post^ was not an AAM post, but just one in Selling (again from 9 months ago), and it has the up/down option for ALL replies.
I suspect this is something in the works, not fully functional yet.

·2 weeks agowonder if it's only on "answered" posts.......???

OP2 weeks agoI think you may be right. Here's another example: https://community.ebay.com/forum/selling-57920/topic/duplicate-listings-when-choosing-to-promote-active-listings-155044/?utm_source=forum_contextual_recommendations&utm_medium=related_discussion
But:
1. Why program a new response option for a feature we don't have in the new forums (we can pin posts, but don't have Best Answer).
2. Why make it for only posts that had a BA??? I can't even guess the logic.

·2 weeks agoI'm guessing that the up/down is meant for the answer......whether you agree with it or not.......
Certainly the info from the "team" concerning the changes is more than a little lacking.
