Are the California Floods & Power Outages affecting your sales?
Just saw a weather report ... almost 1 Million without power as of this writing ... I imagine some folks won't be going to work tomorrow.

·2 years agoHad sales over the week-end...none going to California where I live(San Francisco).
Should be interesting going out to ship my items today. Thought my windows in my apartment wouldn't hold the wind gusts. Lots of trees down.

·2 years agoEverything and anything can impact sales online or not, thats always been a reality. In some ways online sellers dodged a potential bullet with Covid. Sure, had more sales through the stimulus which come full circle in part towards the inflation issues costing sales. Hmmm.
That aside President Trumps wife from near onset of his administration began travelling around the nation speaking to groups of people about Internet safety. Those forums were about social, commerce and more to place significantly more federal legislation in place which was being drafted covid put the brakes on it. Elements of it were towards price gouging in support of State laws which most states have in place already but consumers are unaware. They are aware of gouging in essential goods during national or state emergencies but laws exist across commerce online and off against gouging. His administration wanted federal law on the books and using the FTC consumer complaint gateway as a reporting mechanism.
Part of his online bombastic behavior was all about that legislation... Mr. Trump doesn't act that way in board rooms or in front of investors as people saw in the TV show The Apprentice... No No, you're not getting professional businessmen and women buy into any of that in the real world. He had his wife travelling the land whilst using social media brilliantly (Steve Bannon's doing) to both spark the Make America Great Again movement yet at the sametime delivering causation to regulate the Internet. That was going to be the signature results of his tenure right from word go. There were hordes of academia that equated it, his wife his out in forums speaking about everything from Social Media to online commerce whilst he stirred the pot in Social Media.
You can still see the results to this day with Social Media entities being ordered to appear before legislators all towards regulatory measure. Legislators know cant control human beings online unless there exists real active enforcement. Every state has law on the books about Social Media for example from kids to defamation and all between. Same with commerce, as I said most states have law against gouging some even towards shipping through State Attorney Generals. Most sane folks are in support of Internet regulatory measures but because they dont see the mountain they dont realize how much of their rights are removed, "Its the bad guys!" who gonna get it! Nope. Everybody.
Shop Safe Act amending Trademark Law is a residual as well and who took that up? The Democrats that's who but it was the GOP that was looking to initiate regulatory measures. You'll notice Senator Coons (D) both within Shop Safe and the assault on Social Media as a leader in both. Dems want usurp Internet safety as their gig versus the GOP being able claim it and it all has bi-partisan support so both parties can claim, "Oh it was us not them!"
California seeing these matters happen and as more events happen of course, gonna be things where prices go up perhaps gouging.
Now me, I tend to worry more about the families who's homes get flooded, damaged, those injured or killed due to a weather event more so than my sales or delivery of my packages. Unbelievable.

You haven’t been paying attention. I can not count the number of posters who blame a decline in sales as being all eBay’s fault. When you point out that eBay does not exist in a vacuum and is affected by things outside of eBay’s world you are brushed aside and labeled a Sycophant or a cheerleader. It’s ALL eBay’s fault.
There is on active post right now that begins “A lot of people are blaming the economy but even with a bad economy people still buys stuff. The real reason there are no sales is that Ebay is chasing away the sellers."
So please don't blame the weather - it's all eBay's fault.l Although for the life of me I am not sure how eBay managed to flood California and snow in the northern states. But it must be so. So many say so.

I think you misunderstand, it was just a question on severe localized weather and the affects on sales could be real in that region. Folks without power who don't use their phones for eBay can't process orders or place them. Carrier offices and hubs, be they in urban or rural areas, without power can't scan packages but they "might" be able to process packages with tracking to occur somewhere down the line. Flooded out roads that are closed could delay shipments or pickups.
This wasn't really about sales across the entire eBay site ... I know for myself they are horrible but that's a topic for another day and different thread.
If San Jose gets hit hard enough and the right power lines are interrupted then the power will be off at eBay's corporate office ...

·2 years agoI was a little concerned about Ebay Losing power or some other problem because of the storm. So I woke up early and got all my shipping done just in case.

That thought crossed my mind too ... I am sure they have some kind of a backup power system for their critical devices ...

·2 years agoYou're correct, many in the state will not be going to work on Monday due to flooding, power outage, school closings, or other reasons caused by the big storm across the state. Regarding sales across the state, I have seen sales from the north, central , & south. Of course there will be some areas with power outages. However, they are normally in isolated or very specific areas. Don't forget that flooding & power outages could disrupt delivery patterns across the state. Hence be prepared to respond to any questions about their deliveries in the state.
Don't worry, we will survive the atmospheric river!! ðŸ™âœŒï¸

·2 years agoNorthen Ca. around San Fransisco has had the power outages . Small aera's around there have been getting heavy rain and near hurricane winds . Here southern Ca. here in the high desert it is raining and it is windy but low not like N.Ca. Los Angeles is getting the heavy rain gusty winds.

The East Coast is also having some heavy winter weather with the Confederation Bridge closed and no ferries running to PEI.
