Anybody use hashtags?
I been thinking ... and people who know me usually say 'uh oh' when I say that ... but, I really have.
I admit ignorance of the whole hashtag thing. Like the internet, I believe it is a fad that will fade away; but then again, maybe not.
Does anyone use them in your listings?
Where? How?
Interesting note: To us old people, when we see this symbol # we say "pound".
So the MeToo movement hashtag is read in our old minds as "Pound Me Too."
It's a good thing I'm old enough to be irrelevant.

·2 years agoI don’t think eBay supports hashtags the way Twitter, Instagram and FB does: when you include a #hashtag on those platforms, the word becomes a clickable link that takes you to a results page where you can see all the content that has been tagged with the same hashtag and sort the results.
As far as I know, eBay doesn’t do that.

·2 years ago? Hashtags have been around for years - they are nothing new.
They simply identify specific digital content - call them short-cuts. They're flexible and extremely useful.
Of course, they're also abused like anything else, in this context that would be key word spamming.
ETA: I struggle to read cursive and I'm 70 - most of the time there's no need to read cursive because everything is printed (and has been for years) and given the vast variety of "cursive", sometimes it's like picking my way through a thicket. I also can't really write it very well. It looks nice, though.

I know less about hashtags than you.
I hope that makes you feel better. 😃

OP2 years agoOverheard a conversation from the office next door to mine, both doors open.
"What do you mean, you can't read that?"
** responded in a low tone"
"That IS English. And it's legible. Why can't you read that?"
** mumbling in low voice **
Pause ... "You can't read cursive? Cursive English? You have a four year degree from a state college. You can't read English?"
Pause again.
"I will send you an email about this ... and I will be careful to print in future communications."
I predict he won't be with us long.
It's sad too. He was not educated by his teachers - all of them from 3rd grade on.

·2 years agoHash tags? Like a hash mark?
# = pound sign to me.
I think the hash tag concept is silly. And serves no useful purpose.

I only use hashtags in my variation listings to specify a variation. I am old, too and I think eBay would consider hashtags "special characters" which are not allowed. I have not had any problems using them in my variation listings to specify a choice.
Here is a link to the policy: https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-policies/item-description-policy?id=4372
Someone will be along shortly to correct me if I am wrong.
I do use hashtags when I share my listings on my social media pages.
