Another one of eBay's very stupid changes.
Summary: The discussion revolves around dissatisfaction with recent changes to eBay, particularly regarding their approach to programming and user feedback. chapeau-noir and others express concern that eBay relies too much on contract programmers, lacking proper testing and peer review, which leads to poor implementation of changes without user consultation. quadcitypickers and a participant are particularly frustrated with a change in the quantity listing feature, highlighting that it fails to meet seller needs and was implemented without seeking feedback from users. There is a broader sentiment that corporations often assume user needs rather than asking for actual customer feedback, reflecting a lack of understanding and responsiveness to their user base's requirements.
Now when I go to ship an item, it no longer gives me the title of the item I sold unless I click on it.
Does eBay have programmers that they have to make some stupid change to justify their emplacement? This is another one of eBay's "lets make it worse somehow" changes.

OP4 months agoI called eBay today and was told this was part of "an update".
I asked "what update" and they changed the subject and sounded in a hurry to get off the phone.
There's a major data-tech error going on and no one at eBay wants to admit it.

·4 months agoOr someone got told to 'clean up the label page of clutter'?
a_c_green
·4 months agoThat does seem to be a bit of a fixation of theirs. I remember when they first buried the Log Out link on the My eBay page where it had previously been in plain view (this was many years ago now), claiming that they wanted a "cleaner" page, as you were thinking.
I pointed out that you could already fire a cannon through the middle of the page without hitting anything, and there was nothing that urgently needed placing in that location, but of course they will do what they want to do.

·4 months agoIt's also missing Quantity for a MQ listing
Whether you sell 1 or 15 items from that listing, it shows 1 item. 😠

OP4 months agoI can tell you not a single seller on the planet asked for this change. When will eBay realize they should design the selling portion of their site/app based off the majority of feedback from sellers?
I for one am sick of corporations assuming what the customer wants rather than simply asking them for feedback. Very egotistical.

·4 months agoIt makes sense when you realize they are programming for the cell phone jockeys, not computer users. Personal computing is being eliminated - they want you on a service plan.

My feeling was that we were being pushed into a post-literate society. Then the last update restored the words.

·4 months agoI've been on Time Away, so just saw this change today.
We need Title, Variation, and SKU when printing labels.
I started this thread in the shipping section:
https://community.ebay.com/t5/Shipping/Please-put-the-SKU-and-Variation-back-on-the-Buy-shipping-label/td-p/35616433
Might be worth commenting there, too.

·4 months agoNot sure when it went away or was turned off, but use to the Custom UPC Number or Item Number would print on the Postal Label purchased from eBay. Last time I have seen it printed was August of 2025.

·4 months agoIt's an absolutely pita to not see the titles nor the custom labels!!!!! They just make it more and more inconvenient for us to do business with them. SMH

·4 months agoThis change is absolutely ridiculous. I have a system of checks when I ship. The print label screen is important for me to double check that I have picked the correct item in the correct quantity. Now I can't really check a dang thing there. I have to backtrack unnecessarily to convince myself I'm not making a mistake.
I sell many multi-quantity items in different colors. Now all I see is a tiny thumbnail of my item (can't read the color--can barely make out the item) and it shows 1 item $60.00. Okay, no where does it show me my title with color or quantity sold. I just sold a lot of 2 which were $20. each x 3, but that isn't shown in my seller details. This is supposed to be a helpful change?
sagethreds
·4 months agoTHEY ALSO REMOVED CUSTOM SKU FROM THIS PAGE AS WELL !!!!! - absolutely no reason to eliminate that information on this page. When we are packing orders it helps the packer double check the order before placing it in packaging.
we have 1 person picking orders and printing labels and another packing orders so it keeps them synced up...now they cannot do that...they need to keep another device open with the list of orders to pack to verify our custom SKU

·4 months agoI can understand how that can be a problem for some sellers. For me personally I do not have any issues with it. I am still able to figure out what has sold and ship out the item accurately while using the page. To me personally it isn't a concern but I can understand though how it could be.

·4 months agoI do see the title on the awaiting shipment page, but on the label page you have to click the '1 item' link to see the title.
Just more clicks instead of it being right there on the page. Makes no sense to me.

·4 months agoSurely this is a glitch and not a planned change. This is idiotic if this was intentional.

OP4 months agoI also notice you can't go to the item itself from the label page or view the order number.
a-lotta-stuff
·4 months agoI have never seen the images in your first two posts, and have no idea how to see them.
We print labels by clicking on the 'get shipping label' link on the seller hub - manage all orders page.
"I also notice you can't go to the item itself from the label page or view the order number."
For us the order number is an active link above the item's photo on the 'seller hub - manage all orders' page, and right clicking on a sold item's title and then 'new tab' get me to the ended listing stub, then the 'See original listing' link shows me just that. We new tab so we can just close when done, no 'backsies'

·4 months agoNot sure when it stopped, but use to when I was notified of a sale the Custom Label (SKU) I created would be part of the notification. This was a great help because just looking at my phone I knew the exact item and where it was located by the Custom UPC number. I could get the item out and then package it. Now I must go to my computer first to find out the exact item and where it is located.

·4 months agoOP said: ".......Ebay have programmers?"
Oh yeah. Top to bottom ebay is loaded with 100s and 100s
of adolescent programmers.
Of course, None of those programmers use,
Or have ever used,
Or will ever use, list, revise, research,
Make sales or actually learn how to use every
portion of the site before they "Change things"
a_c_green
·4 months agoI don't mean to sound argumentative here, but I've long suspected that in fact they have hardly any on-staff programmers at all, relying instead on a parade of contract programmers who are hired to do one thing, turn it in and move on to something else.
This would certainly explain the lack of any comprehensive testing or peer review before dumping something into Production, as well as the lack of any announcement, support training and such, not to mention any speedy ability to resolve bug reports later on.

·4 months agoNot to mention the total lack of connecting the dots when it comes to any process.

·4 months agoI think we are all pointing toward the possible lack of sufficient configuration control at eBay. A programmer only programs what he/she is directed to program. And as to whether programmers are direct employees or contract, configuration control can be assured. either way.
broto_64
·4 months agoFixed it for you.
And on that note, I bet these programmers get paid per task.
And just to be perfectly clear, the change this thread is about is likely sub-divided into about ten separate tasks, none of which make sense on their own... Only if you could see every one of the sub tasks would it make any sense, but the programmers are told to create a simple sub-routine to accomplish only a small portion of the whole task...
Ten different programmers, all creating subroutines, remotely.
These subroutines, once combined, will accomplish the original task.
Think of it this way, say the task requires ten lines of code.
Each programmer receives a subtask that requires they create one line of code, each.
Keep in mind, every programmer has their very own way of doing things (no, not all code is written the same way, even if it's in the same "language," in fact it is quite common for code to mold itself after the programmer's own methods and understanding.
So now we have 10 lines of code, one from each of ten different programmers.
What could possibly go wrong?

·4 months agoYesterday, they removed the item cost from the View Order Details page so you can't see what your net profit is. They added that awhile ago and then took it away. I don't get it.

·4 months agoI don't like it, it tells me I sold 1 Item. I hope it is a programming mistake. The link doesn't take me to the sales page which is where I want to go. And no where, and I mean no where, even before this issue, can I find an Item Number, unless I go directly to the sales page itself. Why hide the Item Number from sellers who sold 1 Item?
Thank you! We Love eBay.

OP4 months agoThis is a shipment for 2 items. Does not even show the quantity of 2 unless you click on it!

·4 months agoTotally agree. I sell a lot of books so I like to go to the original listing just to double check I'm selling the right one. I can't tell from that teeny tiny photo. If you go to awaiting shipment under selling on the hub page, you can still see the item there.

·4 months agoTHE PROGRAMMERS RUN ALL OF EBAY. Any complaints about the never ending changes goes right to
the programmers. What do they do with them? DELETE THEM.
Then they tell management WE LOVE THE CHANGES. Then dont get me started on them putting us in
their NEVER ENDING BETA TESTING, when they do, we sell NOTHING. They only put top rated sellers in
these tests. YES, IT IS TO KEEP THERE JOBS. THEY ARE OVERSEAS. THIS WILL NEVER END. Top management
has ZERO clue that all the changes makes them LOSE MONEY. Ask yourself why NO OTHER SITE does constant changes? And you cheerleaders dont even say the others do FOR THEY DONT. Suttle internal changes thats it. This has been going on for about 8 years. Now they are continually messing with SELLERS
SITES THAT NO ONE BUT SELLERS SEE!!! BETA TESTING =LOST SALES. Not rolling blackouts, it is BETA TESTING.
