Another Increase in Fees !!!!
Well, here we go again - another increase in selling fees! When will this end? !! I sell in the Collectibles category where the final value fees are increasing from 12.3% to 12.75% beginning Feb. 14, 2023 (with the exception of non-sport trading cards, comic books, and memorabilia) - so those categories get a break from increased fees? Why?
The increase is supposedly to support "Enhanced tools like the redesigned Seller Hub Marketing tab and automated offers help you connect with more buyers, while our AI background enhancement tool streamlines your workflow by enabling you to create studio-quality photos. Plus, our expanded Product Research tool helps you set pricing easier, and your selling experience is more secure than ever with expanded ShipCover insurance and our ongoing efforts to reduce unpaid items" and future enhancements." - So the categories excluded from the fee hikes don't benefit from these "enhancements"? Doesn't make any sense.
When will Ebay realize that if sellers have to continually raise prices to sustain profits, they are likely to leave the platform all together because sales continue to fall off. They claim that they are improving our selling experience but I don't see how. Just because they redesign a web page and change their research tool and shipping insurance a select few have to pay more? Time for them to realize that without sellers, there would be no Ebay.
The company made record profits last year but that is a false narrative if you examine profits made from sales. Everyone knows that sales fell off in 2024 as the economy slowed but that is not where the increased profits came from. They came from the sellers pockets who use promoted listings. Ebay makes money (pay per click) even if the item doesn't sell, at the sellers expense. Once sellers discovered that the promoted listings didn't really translate into a fantastic increase in sales, they stopped using it. But, Ebay must keep the profits flowing for their stockholders, so, voila! increase fees on sellers.

Fees and financials
Good News, we’re adjusting final value fees in all categories from 99.98% to 99.99% so we can continue our ongoing efforts to reach 100% in order to provide tools and services in support of your long-term growth.

·1 year agoThis small increase is nothing compared to the frequent and hefty increases in shipping. I can easily work the fees into my price whereas sometimes shipping rates hikes push cheaper items out of a reasonable asking price. A couple years back Priority went up 14% overnight!

When will what end? Prices always go up. I remember 35 cent chocolate bars. A piece of Double Bubble gum was a nickel. Popcorn was ten cents and the movie was 50 cents.
I am also too old to know if these prices were at the same time.

·1 year agoI'm so old I remember when the Saturday matinee double feature was a quarter. The folks sent us every Saturday with a quarter for admission and 5 cents to buy a candy bar or a big box of junior mints. This was in the 50's. The final value raise could have been worse.
I agree that the frequent postage increases are much more damaging to the bottom line. And why is media singled out for punishment by USPS and eBay? I sell heavy dishes and books. Oh well.

·1 year ago🤔I'm more curious of who owns the rights to all of the original photos?

·1 year agoWell, technically if I take an original photo (as opposed to using a manufacturer's "stock" photo) I own the rights to that picture. However, just because I own the right does not prevent me from giving others the right to use it. Buried in the eBay Terms and Agreements document is a requirement that I allow others to use the photo. Now, I can refuse to sign, but all that is going to do is cause me problems with eBay.
So essentially I own it but eBay's agreement forces me to allow others to use it and makes it impossible for me to control it.

·1 year agoAs a general rule eBay's profits come from my buyer's pocket. If it did not source from there, then I would consider that I have made an error with my business model.
Last time that I promoted anything was when eBay gave me a "monthly allowance" that was credited back to me to do so.

NEVER due to neverending inflation.

First of all, on a $100 sale you are only going to give up 45 cents. OH THE HORRORS ~
Secondly I also sell in the Collectibles category and under the new rates I will only be paying 11.51%. So if you are paying 12.75$% that is your own fault for not taking advantage of the cost cutting opportunities that eBay provides.
When will Ebay realize that if sellers have to continually raise prices to sustain profits,
When will sellers realize that eBay has to continually raise prices to sustain profits,
(something about the goose and the gander comes to mind here)
The increased profits came from the sellers pockets who use promoted listings.
Then don’t use promoted listings. They are after all OPTIONAL.
Problem solved. Oh, and before your knee jerks and accuses me of being an eBay employee, or shill, or cheerleader be advised that I do freely admit to being a cheerleader for Unrestricted Laissez Faire Capitalism (AKA The Great Material Continuum).

·1 year agoRichard,
Could you enlighten me. What are these "cost cutting opportunities" you speak of?

·1 year agoYou have 8,000 listings. That is WAY more than enough to make the effort to be a Top Rated Plus seller. You immediately get a 10% reduction on FVF. Viola ! 12.75 rimes .9 = 11.51%.
