·1 year agoIts not a good thing as you said at all. I will no longer send offers as it restricts any revision of your listing for96 hours. I would rather just lower my price so all can see.

·1 year agoYes I thought 48 hours was to long to lock up your listing. 24 hours is the best time. Many people watching your item are sellers who are selling the same item and just want to keep track of your item having no intention of buying it. Thats the downside of offers you have no idea who is real and who isnt and to lock up for 96 hours is a non starter for me. Just lower my price for every new set of eyeballs who view listing and let them decide at that point if its low enough for them to want to buy it.

·1 year agoI'll no longer send offers or counter offers purely for this reason, most watchers are just nosey people or they have the same item and want to see what it sells for, I do it myself at times. At the moment I have 21 items eligible for "Send Offer", all those items have the make offer option so I don't think it's being unreasonable to expect any genuinely interested people to send an offer?!

·1 year agoWell said and I'll reiterate. Most watchers who trigger the "make offer" are just lurking around waiting to see what my item sells for. Having my listing locked up just because of them is ridiculous. As you said, when you already have "best offer" there's really less reason to send out offers. If eBay was concerned about the sellers and put forth as much effort to help them, they would make the response time for buyer offers 4 days to allow some time to maybe get more offers.

·1 year agoSaw a post the other day where someone said seller counter-offers, which used to have a 24 hour clock, have been extended to a 96 hour clock.
As far as I know (haven't checked since last week), buyer initiated offers are still 24 hours.

·1 year agoit's just to long , 48 hours was also to long . when you give someone more time , they just waste it . Most people don't use offers after the first hour or so ....

·1 year agoMy work around for this has been that I only send offers on items that have 48 hours or less until they renew. Then I end the item right before it renews, and sell similar. Ending the listing obviously ends the offer, but on my timeline, not ebay's 4 day timeline.

·1 year agoUpdate from a rep at eBay Open today:
"the offer expiry time for a seller initiated offer was changed to 96 hours (4 days) last week. This is applicable to US and UK."
Plus a whole lot of seller complaints about it and a whole lot of "we'll pass on the feedback" responses.

·1 year agoWe discussed this here and we feel 24 hours is more than enough time to decide if you're going to buy an item. So, making it more than that is just foolish. It just holds the seller hostage to make any improvements or changes to the item. Which I do not agree with either. I needed to make a change to a pair of Blue jeans, but I had made an offer so it was all locked up.
We as sellers want to make our listings look their best, so this is a little aggravating. If someone is interested they are not going to wait 4 days.

·1 year agoJust want to say, if anyone is worried about not being able to edit certain listings for 96-hours, be sure to double-check what listings you have Automatic Offers enabled on. Or you might be unable to edit those.

·1 year agoI sent some offers early in the week, they said they would expire in 48 hours.
I suspect that you are correct since this morning I see an increase in listings eligible for offers which is equal to the number of offers sent.
Perhaps no announcement because all of the changes are not complete and some fool released the partial update.

·1 year agoI don't think it is that big of deal other than the disrespect shown to sellers by not informing sellers about this change. If I need to edit a listing so bad that I can not wait two more days I can just end the listing and then relist the item with the changes.

·1 year agoAll the hallmarks of a slimy company. How many sellers are gonna get caught unable to process orders that come in after the 48 hour window they are expecting? What happens when sellers put their accounts on time away not knowing/realizing their offers from 72 hours ago are still active?

·1 year agoI fully agree with the time away issue you brought up. I sent out 5 offers this morning, naively expecting those offers to expire in 48 hours. I'm leaving on time away on Monday morning (72 hours). So my choices appear to be ending the listing early or taking a ding for late shipping if someone purchases an item. I had planned to send out more offers today, but the new process will limit my ability to do so.

As you're aware, seller initiated offers accepted during Time Away are on the exclusions list, meaning eBay does not extend handling time.
Nowhere on the offers pop up does it state the change from 48 hr offers to 96 hr offers which means sellers will be caught with late shipments if they expect 48 hr offers that will end before they go on Time Away.

·1 year agoThank you @devon@ebay . According to one of the discussions, CS has not been informed of the change, presumably the internal help documents have not been updated, so CS is telling sellers the window is still 48 hours.

And while you're at it Kyle and Devon, how about bringing back "Accept Offer" instead of "Go to Checkout" on sent offers so that buyers who get multiple offers can put them in their cart for combined shipping instead of having to pay for each one individually.
Oh that's right, eBay gets additional per-order fees under this system, never mind.

·1 year agoFriend of mine says they time their offers and their sale events.
They won't send offers more than 3 days before a sale event because they don't want buyers thinking the offer isn't a good deal if the item is on sale. So they leave a 24 hr gap between offer expiration and sale.
They said the new 4 day window means they'll send fewer offers since they won't send them in that window before a sale which has now increased by 2 days - which is not a big deal, but they were grateful for the heads up I gave them since it affects their business function.

·1 year agoI just commented on another thread about this, but I sent feedback and suggest anyone else annoyed by this change do the same. This was my feedback if anyone is curious:
"I just found out that seller-initiated offers are good for 96 hours now instead of 48, which is very frustrating since it locks any changes for that amount of time. Please allow us to change the timeframe, or cancel seller-initiated offers if needed!"

Yes, that's exactly the reason I won't be sending seller-initiated offers after this new development.
I'm not locking myself out from editing for 96 hours.
I always felt 24 hours was plenty of time, anyway -- at least from the way my own buyers respond to offers.

OP1 year agoThis is just eBay's latest attempt to drive a stake through the heart of seller-initiated offers. I don't understand why they just don't go ahead and kill it altogether, and put it out of its misery.

·1 year agoI think if they wanted it to die, it would not be the #1 thing they push sellers to do when we log in. Also whenever a buyer messages a question about an item, even if it has nothing to do with price.

·1 year agoeBay sure has been dillying around with Best Offers lately. It has been so screwed up I have not been receiving many if any chances to send offers. Been this way for about a week.
