AN INSANE GLITCH BY EBAY RELISTING AN ITEM THAT WAS SOLD AND PAID FOR
Summary: The discussion revolves around an issue with eBay where sold items are being relisted unexpectedly, causing confusion among sellers. chapeau-noir shared an experience of multiple ghost listings that were not visible in their store but appeared on the site, leading to penalties for unfilled orders. rosemary6525, lacemaker3, and thatbooklady are part of the conversation, sharing concerns and trying to address the glitch. The problem, which has been denied by eBay, continues to affect sellers who are unable to match active items with their sold counterparts effectively.
Any1 ever had something this crazy happen? EBAY , at least on the mobile site, kept relisting a SOLD ITEM.
It was insane. I had an auction and nobody bought much, then I relisted as fixed cause I was going to out a week and I could mass jack up prices so nobody would buy. I sold a lot of lures and shipped. Sure enough 2 weeks later I showed a sale. Was same lot I shipped to Oregon 2 weeks before. Man was nice about and I cancelled order. Yesterday he messaged me and asked if this was real? Sure enough it was exact same lot of lures. It was relisted again on mobile site. I had look thru desktop chrome site that morning and it was not there. I said **bleep**? I ended it and deleted it but how could this happen? I did not give a quantity of 3 on auction, you cannot do this. I rarely look thru what I have listed on mobile site on app, only desktop Not in 20 years has anything happened before

·4 months agoIt's called a "Ghost Listing" and it's a very real problem that's been happening for decades. Nobody seems to know why or how this happens.

·4 months agoYes, I have had this happen to me. It ended up selling again and caused me to get a strike against me for not having the item when I cancelled the sale. A disappointed customer as well.

·4 months agoI usually offer something else in my listings free with a higher catalog value for item I don't have to the buyer.
I tell buyer to pick out something else as a replacement.
Keeps from getting a 'strike' and buyer will be happy.
And I tell buyer if I find item I will send it for free(but we know we probably don't have it.)
I would never cancel the sale if I can't find it or it already sold.

·4 months agoI have experienced the ghost listings several times. 7 times in the last month. I check for dups every week, but don't know how to check my active items vrs sold items. The last one was sold about a year ago. Now I am being penalized for the unfilled orders. Ans as I have read many times eBay denies this happens.

OP4 months agoWOW you must have many listings Yes the item was a buy it now. It magically appeared on the mobile site
I will apparently need to watch more closely , especially if I list more stuff

·4 months agoThe several dups that I've had have never been in my store - they appear onsite, but not in my store. I realised this with the mouse sale, because I had checked the very low mouse inventory I had left the day before - that mouse was not in it, then it sold a day later (again).

·4 months agoI've had some 'ghost' listings but it's pretty rare. The last one was a mouse I sold fixed price which sold again 10 days later - it was not in my store as I had only one or two mice left, but it sold on site.

·4 months agoProbably set to auto-relist. If not, do a search on "ghost listings". It isn't out of the question for a long sold item to pop back up for sale. eBay always says it is a seller mistake but they have a problem with them. I know I have had it happen a few times over the years. I now am in the habit of deleting every item that sells when it sells. I don't keep '0' quantity items unless I know for absolutely sure that I can get another one put together in order to meet my shipping time. For every one-off item, it gets closed when it sells. That has stopped my ghost listing problem.

·4 months agolacemaker3 has a good point, Did you check if your auctions are set to auto relist?, If not that is some crazy stuff! & eligible for the bleep!

It sounds like your original auction had the auto-relist option turned on.
I think you will need to revise the unwanted auction listing to turn the auto-relist off before you end it. Then keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't keep getting relisted.
