ADS NOT WORKING- ebay doesn’t want to take responsibility
So I complaint about ads being useless as they don’t boost listings visibility as they should and were before madness of October 2021. I raised rate by 1% and saw 0 boost- my promoted listing impressions graph was the same or worse. I don’t promote at 2%. I actually promote at the rates recommended to me by other autoparts sellers. This janusry i had 10 items sold through prmoted (out of 34) last year around 30 (out of 57). I sell those same parts for years - I am not new to that category. My listings have specifics, part nr, a lot of pictures , tested. I create listing by hitying „list similar†from successfully sold listings either mine or other sellers. Within the past couple of months Ebay made it extremely difficult to list and keep track on listings. They very often rotate categories and in the process the specifics are wiped out. Items end in wrong fategories without you realizing it then when you try to put it back the specifics disappear. My listings have fitment guides based on manufacturer website.
I had Ebay ads specialist get back to me on my complaint of traffic performance. He told me:
1. I don’t prmote at suggested rate (True- I prmoted at rate other sellers recommended, rate I have always promoted at for years, it is not the lowest 2% and changing it to 1% more didn’t have any effect, 0)
2. Optimize titles (- I list sell similar from successfully sold items so not sure how that would help? Others sold with titles like that why can’t I ?)
3. I was also told to optimize specifics fitment (i already have that, i have specifics and some werepopulated from sell similar, i have fitment guides)
4. The advise is useless and ebay refuses to look into issue that many may have from what I have seen.
5. He also mentioned that 30 of my listings are not prmoted- yes Lisyings that are either priced low or toss up , not worth promoting\
i am feeling frustrated. Maybe I am being throtteld and that is why ads don’t work. Do you have similar experience?

·3 years agoOr is it possible it could it be due to changing your member id so often that buyers are losing track of you and, as a result, your listings? Just a thought . . .
partfinds
OP3 years agoNo. I change id several days ago as you noticed. No id has nothing to do with impressions and ads. Ebay either blocked my account and so nothing works on it or the ads are broken. All or nothing- promote suggested rate of 12% . I am just asking why thee is a range 2% and 10-12%†putting items on 5% will not work so what does? I see no slight movevent in impressions after I raise the rate bu 1%. Ebay is broken. Unfortunately i can’t afford to prmote at rate they suggest which is ridiculuous. They would suggest such rates even when noone else sells and item like you have.

·3 years agoPromos don't do anything if you are the highest price. The 04-09 E350 E500 Mirror - you are $118 and ON YOUR listing, there are 2 others being sold for $75 and $102.
Also, if I search for a 2006 E500 Left Mirror- I get 1500+ shown;
If I put the part number in (2118100521) I get 28- 2 of which are promoted and you are one of the 2.
People will probably search by the first term I used before they use (or would even know) the part number.
So, you will get what you get when you get it. Selling a 'used' mirror for a 15 year old car will take some time for the right person to find it; but with 1500 or even 28 to choose from- would be a long-tail item. Promos work if buyer knows the part number much better- but without, it's a miss miss miss maybe a hit eventually, thing.
But as far as the Title of this post-it's not ebays responsibility to 'do anything' for you or any one of the other 1500 that might do promotions. Promotions work when they work, when you have an item that is highly sought after and/or lots of competition.

OP3 years ago@stainlessenginecovers I set prices according to what they sold for before and according to how much margine I have and what condition item os in, Maybe ebay is not showing you all sellers item sold for. Maybe they think you have item and they show you this so you price it lower than that. Some sellers that want to sell quick price it low. Ebay don’t show all sellers in search so pricing don’t matter- ebay AI should not and was neve before discriminating on the basis of price. There were sellers selling high while the cheapest items never sold. You know that or you should know that. But you talk about view and pricing an dI am talking about ads not working to boost impressions which happens before views happen.
I am still talking about impressions for items. Ads should be designed to raise impressions and this has nothing to do with pricing. Sales may have something to do with pricing. My claim is that ads don’t work to raise impressions.
Some items selling low are damaged - you can’t compare it like that- you actually have to look at pictures ; some sellers don’t know what issues are with items, they don’t know how to inspect them; some sellers get items free- so they sell for less; some sellers own junkyards). I compare prices to sellers that sell on Ebay for a while and I do promote so I have to offset a lot expenses. The only thing is that ads were working before October 2021 and now they don’t. No matter what is done , I see 0 imorovement in the impression graph which I shared numerous times throughout the pats 2 years.

·3 years agoI did some research for you since you are podcasting false information. I typed chevy climate control led and out of 531 yours is #5. Promotions work, but obviously no one is looking for your Chevy climate control led at this time.

·3 years agoCustomers don't care if your item is "promoted" (price is the only driving factor). Maybe instead of paying EBAY for promotion (create a sale and lower prices "just a bit" to drive sales).

·3 years agoIf EVERYONE "promotes" their listing doesn't it then just become "listing" your item, just at a higher fee rate?
luckythewinner
·3 years agoBy "ads" are you talking about promoted listings?
Promoted listings do not guarantee you better exposure.
They only give you a CHANCE at better exposure.
There are only so many slots allocated to promoted listings.
And if your listing is not getting boosted, you are not paying anything.

·3 years agoSomeone else offered a similar complaint here earlier. At that time, I asked if eBay somehow guarantees that using promotions will get sales. Nobody replied to my question. So, again, does eBay offer some kind of guarantee that promoted listings will get sales?
slippinjimmy
·3 years agoNo of course not, they don't guarantee the number of impressions, the number of views or the number of sales.
NO companies that sell advertising guarantee the results especially when the fees (PL Standard) are only charged when a sale is made.
soh.maryl
·3 years agoYou may have misunderstood my message. Yes, I realized eBay could not guarantee sales under any circumstances, nor even views for that matter. But both sellers who complained about promotions seemed to feel that eBay offered some sort of "If you use promotions, you'll get more sales" and I was pointing out, in a roundabout way, that there is no guarantee.
slippinjimmy
·3 years agoeBay says you will get more EXPOSURE which MAY lead to more sales.
I use PL sparingly but in every case it definitely has increased my exposure (impressions), whether this increases sales is dependent on the quality of the items and the demand for those items. Since I only use PL for stuff that has been listed for years that are a hard sell at the best of times I mostly only see the increased impressions but not the sales.
Math and comprehension skills are two things some sellers are not very good at, demonstrated daily on these boards.

OP3 years ago@soh.maryl
It is NOT about guaranting sales but boosting performance of listings, ok? When your items are not promoted, they are not displayed. If they’re not displayed they can’t be viewed- this is performance and that is what ads are responsible for -for boosting visibility rather then stifling it.
@heckofagame
i sell same parts for years- never issue. Mercedes has lots of models people love. There is a lot of them on the road. They have issues.
soh.maryl
·3 years agoSo every single item that I can see for sale on eBay is a promoted listing?
Is that what you mean when you state, "When your items are not promoted, they are not displayed."?
heckofagame
·3 years agoPlease don't tell us that you believe that unless you promote the listings, they do not appear on eBay. Don't do that.

·3 years agoMy suggestion would be ... don't use/pay for promoted listings.

OP3 years ago@inhawaii „My suggestion would be ... don't use/pay for promoted listings.â€
When i remove ads then my impressions drop to 0 bothorganic and promoted. It seems Ebay capped my impressions at 8k and no matter how much I raise my rate by , it stays below 8k. 8k impressions at my items don’t end in better performance. See at graph. And when you look at higher impression numbers on the hraph is when i promoted by about 1% less than now in january and february

·3 years ago@partfinds If I am understanding what you are saying, you are under the impression that, when you stop a PLS campaign, your organic impressions end until you resume a PLS campaign.
No.
If you aren't running a PLS campaign, then all your impressions will be organic. You will still be getting organic impressions, but they won't show on the Advertising Dashboard---they WILL show on your Traffic Graph (Seller Hub>Performance>Traffic) If you are not running a campaign, your Advertising Dashboard will show zero impressions because there are no listings to be shown, because there is no campaign.
