add message to offers?
Do any of you use the message box to send one to the person(s) with your item on their watch list? I am thinking that for my remaining time offering FP listings I could put a message about that in the offers. Maybe something like "listing ending soon with closing of most of ebay account".
It's only going to be for a week until my store subscription ends on May 31. 'Sales led me to consider paying for an additional month but sales are down again. If they go up next week I may buy an additional month to maybe clear out some inventory but June 30 is the drop dead date.

·4 months agoYes! I'm amazed that most of the offers I receive just have the canned text "Here's your chance to get this item at a great price!" I use all 300 characters to tell buyers they can get a better discount on everything in my store with a discount code for 2 or more items. The code is unique so I can monitor how many folks take advantage of the offer.
There are plenty of folks who cannot figure out how to use a discount code on their order. When they message me I tell them just to buy the order at full price and I will refund the discount.
I'm looking at long term and growing my followers. I currently have a few under 600. In the collectibles market it's all about repeat customers who will buy from you on a regular basis. I use the Send Offers to fish for new customers, hoping they will become regulars. When times have sucked, I do notice the majority of my orders come from repeat customers, so the strategy is working.

·4 months agoI’ve tried it a few times, but there’s not really a good way to track if it makes any difference. I usually leave the default message. I guess it’d be nice if we could change that default just like we can change our automated feedback for buyers.

OP4 months agoI left a message on one and either deleted the canned message or added to it. I have already forgotten. I have a lot on my mind. A friend today asked how is retirement and I had to laugh because I am still working plenty. I am going through the shelves and pulling books to try to auction or take to the used bookstore. Yes that means they are pre-picked. I will have at least about 1300 books left and they are not bad just not great candidates for either. They should scan as saleable especially for scanner bots who buy lots of books friends and I have noticed in passing not worth buying (glancing at their piles and top books on boxes).
If I manage to get several people to come shop I may ask the last person if they want to just take the rest for little or no money. These books that I can't use for auctions or store credit are mostly not doing anything for me though I did just have a very good week due largely to very generous discounting.

·4 months agoAre you referring to the listing followers that you send a discount to that has the comment box? When you send an offer it is automatically populated with a response from ebay that says, "here's your chance to get this at a great price." I usually add to that and say that we look forward to working with them. Those offers usually do generate sales for me too.

OP4 months agoI was under the impression that a message from us negated the auto message. Not a biggie. My current watchers should think it's a great price given how much I am discounting.

The auto message is a default.
You add to it or replace it with your own message, is how I've always understood it.

Yes, I have included a message with SIOs from time to time when the item has a flaw and I want to be sure the watcher reads the full description and views all photos before purchasing.

·4 months agoI use it to notify that this is last chance clearance.

OP4 months agoMy idea exactly! I wish I had thought of it sooner

·4 months agoI only use the message box when someone sends me an offer direct and I need to explain something important or tell them that if they are willing to go to this amount I am offering to cover shipping then that's when it's beneficial. That's in addition to them sending a message as well so I reply back to them. Sending watchers a message are just random buyers so if they have a concern or question they can just message me direct.

·4 months agoI have no idea who my watchers are, but I do occasionally use the message box to send notes with offers on eligible items. Typically I do this when there's a coupon running that might offer a better discount. I just say something like "please note coupons may not be applied to offers, so please go with whichever option will provide you with the best discount".

As a buyer, I do similar, mostly as a courtesy to the seller to let him know why I have declined an offer - I never whine about the price still being too high and I very rarely make a counter-offer.
There's no message box if I accept an offer ... just goes straight to the 'pay me' page.
