Account restricted for "High risk selling" for 2 days, no clear reason given
Summary: syzogems shared that their eBay account was restricted for 'High risk selling,' affecting their selling privileges and payments, with no specific reasons provided. They mentioned their clean account metrics and expressed frustration over the lack of response from eBay. dhbookds and momtoabeautifuldaughter speculated that the issue might be related to the nature of their listings, including drop shipping from Sri Lanka. luckythewinner explained that eBay uses a scoring system based on multiple factors to evaluate risk and that restrictions may be applied proactively based on predictive models.
Hi everyone,
My account was restricted 2 days ago for "High risk selling." My selling privileges are restricted, my payments are on hold, and I'm told I'm responsible for any outstanding fees. Document ID: 178681791004. I also see a message on my Inactive listings page saying my account is "limited due to suspicious activity" with reference code e299837-1139141x.
The problem is I haven't received any specific reason or clear reinstatement steps, even though eBay's own help articles say I should. My account metrics look clean: Above Standard seller level, 0.00% defect rate, 0.00% late shipment rate, 100% positive feedback, no open disputes.
I've submitted a request through the "Email us" form referencing both codes and I'm waiting to hear back, but it's already been 2 days with no response.
Has anyone dealt with this before? How long did it take to hear back, and is there a faster way to reach someone who can actually look into the specific reason? Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

·2 weeks ago · EditedeBay does not give detailed explanations of how they evaluate risk in a selling account, because that would just tip off the bad actors about how to avoid detection.
If eBay's risk assessment algorithm is anything like their best match system, it is a scoring system that looks at dozens of factors about your account, your activity, and your listings and calculates a cumulative "score" based on the those factors. If your score exceeds a threshold, eBay deems you to not be worth the risk.
The risk assessment is not just about what you have done in the past, it's also about what their statistical models indicate might happen in the future. eBay has a vast trove of information about millions of sellers and billions of transactions, so if they decide your profile aligns too closely with problem profiles, they will flag you. The goal is to head off problems BEFORE they happen, not try to correct them AFTERWARD.

·2 weeks agoI would guess the reason is lack of previous current sales........plus you state you are shipping from Sri Lanka.......items look to be drop shipped......i.e. not in your possession (just a supposition) with free shipping......so they may doubt the location.
Not unusual for Ebay to restrict selling until a history of no problems is evident..........

OP2 weeks agoI had about 180 listings live before the restriction. Once it hit, eBay deactivated 169 of them, leaving only a few active. Not sure if that's normal for this type of restriction or a sign of something specific.
