accidental store cancellation & failure to honor reopen policy & cancel early termination fee
I filed a complaint with eBay due to a series of systemic failures regarding my eBay Store subscription for my account.
Approximately 1 day ago, I received a notification stating that my Basic Store (Yearly Subscription) was cancelled and is scheduled to close on June 1, 2026. This cancellation was made in error. Despite eBay’s own automated messaging stating, "Your store settings will be saved for 30 days, so if you change your mind, it's easy to reopen your store," the "Reopen" functionality is completely broken and does not work.
Additionally, the "Take Survey" link provided in that same message is a dead link.
Summary of Failed Customer Service: I have contacted eBay support over nine times via both phone and chat. In every instance, I have been given the "runaround." I have been transferred to multiple agents (often 3+ per session), with each transfer requiring an additional 20+ minutes of waiting, only to be told the agent cannot assist or does not have the information that should have been relayed to them. I have been provided with conflicting information and, frankly, lied to regarding the ability to reverse this error.
To resolve this matter without further escalation, I asked ebay that I require the following:
Immediate Restoration: Reinstate my eBay Store to its previous status as a Yearly Basic Store effective immediately.
Fee Waiver: Ensure that no Early Termination Fee (ETF) is charged to my account, as this cancellation was accidental and I have attempted to rectify it within hours (actualy minutes).
- Account Correction: Ensure all current "Good 'Til Cancelled" listings remain at the store subscription rate and do not revert to non-store fees.
This is a straightforward technical and billing error that eBay’s support team has refused to fix despite my exhaustive efforts to resolve it through standard channels. I expect a resolution ASAP.
Furthermore, I have been told my store will end on May 31 and will have to restart the store on June 1. The problem is that the setting for that old store will be lost.
The very reason eBay allows a reopening of the store is for eBay's system to know you are still active, and so no fee is assessed to your account
(1) Has anyone else experienced such an issue?
(2) How can this be resolved? Ebay chat and calls have all been fruitless
If anyone can guide me or help me I would greatly appreciate it

·4 months agoI wouldn’t worry about store settings being lost. Multiple times, I have restarted stores after several months away. Each time, settings were fine – everything was kept, even the store newsletter.

OP4 months agoThank you very much for sharing your experience and providing that confirmation. I was quite concerned about losing my configurations, so hearing that your settings and newsletters remained intact after several months is incredibly reassuring.

OP4 months agoI can’t thank you enough for posting that! I’m currently several rounds deep into an eBay phone-tag saga, and seeing this made my day!

·4 months agoHa, well you said you'd contacted eBay "nine times." Every time I hear or see those words (which is surprisingly often), that scene comes to my mind. You recognize it right? 😄

What happens if you click on the hyperlink to "reopen your store?"
memorabilia111
OP4 months agoThe interface redirects exclusively to the canceled subscription page, and there appears to be no functional option to reactivate the store.

OP4 months agoyes it can be reversed according to ebay

·4 months agoDid you cancel your store accidentally, or did eBay?
If it was you, as eBay takes store fees upfront, you may not be able to restore it until 1st June.
Perhaps try setting up your store under the subscription section instead of using the broken link setup.

OP4 months agoThank you for the suggestion. I did look into the Subscription section, but unfortunately, it’s currently only offering the option to start a new monthly subscription. Since I want to maintain my Basic Yearly subscription, I can’t process it through that specific workflow without potentially complicating my billing.
Further, I’ve been in contact with eBay support, and they confirmed that because my previous store status is technically active through June 1st, attempting to force a new subscription now could create a conflict in their system. Even though the 'Reopen Store' link should be the functional fix, it appears to be caught in a technical loop. Following their advice, I guess I have to wait until June 1st reset to ensure the yearly subscription restores correctly and avoid any further account discrepancies.

Whose error wasn't it in the cancelling of the store? I'm not clear on that part of your story
