Hello, I’m still new to selling and I don’t wanna get my account “ dinged “ , how would I go about refunding this customer without getting my account “dinged”. I’ve already sent them a direct message explaining the issue and I canceled the shipping label. What would be my next step?
I appreciate any input, thank you

·1 week ago@britwithonet-99 Keep in mind that we are all human and we all make mistakes from time to time. There isn't a seller out there that hasn't made an honest mistake from time to time. The key is to learn from it, do the best you can to fix it and move on.
Now this mistake, as you know, is your mistake. NOT something the buyer did wrong, so please don't try to make it their problem. You need to politely and professionally apologize to the buyer, take ownership of the mistake you made and let them know you will be cancelling the transaction and issuing a full refund immediately.
You will get a defect for Cancelling the transaction for being OOS [out of stock], but that is exactly what you need to do. I know it stings a bit, but you will be OK as one doesn't hurt you. I'm confident you have learned from this and it just helps you become a wiser and better seller for the future. I wish you the very best.

·1 week agoThe whole point of dinging sellers for cancelling orders is to stop sellers from cancelling orders. What sense would it make for eBay to turn around and give those sellers a way to avoid getting dinged for cancelling?
You made a mistake.
Own it.
Accept the ding.
Learn the lesson of better invetory management.

You don't. You cancel for OOS since that's what happened.
This is a newbie mistake, an easy one to learn from so it doesn't happen again.

·1 week agoYou could ask the buyer, Very Apologetically, if he would consider cancelling the order. If that doesn't work you are stuck with the ding.

·1 week ago@vintage-camerastuff Just so everyone is aware, this is NOT the correct way to use this function. If a seller gets caught by Ebay doing this, they can get sanctioned. Granted it may be hard for Ebay to find out about this, but if you get a buyer that is ticked off about not being able to get the item they wanted, they may contact Ebay and report this message and request from the seller. This is the improper use of the Cancellation Process and Ebay is tightening up on sellers abusing the system in order to avoid Defects.

·1 week agoYou don't. Cancel 'Out of Stock', take the "ding", make every effort to not let it happen again, you'll be fine.
