Accepted Best Offer, now waiting for payment?
I thought eBay's new policy for the past year or so was to require buyers to commit to a payment method before a best offer was sent so that if the seller accepted, payment would be automatic. But apparently not. I had a listing set up requiring immediate payment, a buyer made an offer, I accepted, and now I have to wait until 8/2 to get paid?

Yes, you are correct, and your settings reflect that if a BUYER sent you an offer and you accepted, that is exactly what should have happened (unless a counter offer was involved). This has nothing to do with your item being IPR for the regular BIN amount. You retain the (now renamed) Buyer Rules that eBay placed on your account with the default set to yes.
Of course, eBay is likely still messing around with this, so no telling why it didn't work for you. Even with your settings in place, it also requires that the BUYER ID is also set by eBay for forced compliance. eBay announced that ALL buyer IDs were now forced to comply, or not participate in transactions with sellers who retained those requirements. Perhaps your Buyer's ID has not been forcibly enrolled yet, which would make your settings not work. If your buyer is new, eBay may be holding off on enrolling the ID into "other people didn't pay so you get the shaft" camp.
In addition, for a while there, when you accepted an offer, it was renamed as a "you sent an offer" even when you did no such thing. This was (not) great fun or the least bit amusing. In these instances, the buyer did not get an acceptance notice, but rather then had the choice to "ignore" "decline" or once in a while there was an "accept" button that would put the transaction in your awaiting payment folder with no auto-billing. These sideways dramas were happening REGARDLESS if you required the prepayment sign up or not. If you make a counter offer, presently the buyer has the opportunity to pay or not. If you send offers, they are not auto-billed even if the buyer has an "accept" button. Your counter offer is treated the same way as if YOU sent an offer. The buyer can pay or not.
If I were to guess, I think your issue is a result of eBay playing around with this again. Understand that it is NOT a favorite of buyers, and has been quite effective in running off PAYING buyers. The pre-payment source requirement has done more to decrease sales that it ever did in getting rid of non-payers. They just turn into serial cancellation requests for which there are no consequences.
eBay does not want to sanction non-payers. The reason being is they just might really buy and pay for something someday. LOL... So because some buyers don't pay, and eBay refuses to get rid of them, the rest of us buyers are forced into this everchanging circus where payment choices are limited and combined shipping/invoicing for multiple items is not allowed.

OP2 years agoThanks for the information. I checked my buyer requirements and I did have it set to require payment up front for a buyer to make a best offer. So I called eBay customer service, and was told that in this case there must have been something wrong with the buyer's payment method and the payment didn't go through, so when that happens, the system reverts to giving the buyer 3 days to pay.

·2 years agoRequiring immediate payment on your listings only applies when a buyer uses Buy It Now. You do have the option now of requiring a buyer to give payment information before making an offer. If the offer is accepted, they are charged right away but you have to set that up in your preferences. It's under buyer rules.
