A one time buyer
Summary: ronmor83 shared a frustrating experience with a buyer who returned an item that was not the one originally sent, leading to a compelled refund by eBay. kensgiftshop advised refunding, blocking the buyer, and reporting the loss on taxes, mentioning that certain products attract more scammers. authentic*vintage humorously likened it to never encountering snakes in ball pits at McDonald's, and the thread briefly diverged into a discussion about ball pit hygiene. Other participants, like kandf_vintage_finds and mam98031, expressed sympathy and suggested blocking problematic buyers while promoting the importance of welcoming new buyers. gurlcat shared a similar experience but noted eBay's resolution thanks to seller protection measures.
Has anybody had to deal with a buyer that just created their account. Purchase something yours and then return it. But when they return item it’s not the same one that you sent them, and eBay forced you to do a refund?

·2 weeks agoI got plastic pebbles as a return for a pair of earrings. But eBay handled it for me because I had all my seller protection requirements in place, and knew which steps to take in which order, to redeem the protection.

·2 weeks agoAs many have shared, I too have not had this happen. But I agree to processing the return claim, then block the buyer from purchasing from me again by putting them on my BBL [blocked buyer's list]. I am very sorry this happened to you.
Please know that most new buyers are wonderful. We need them in order for sellers and this site to grow. Without them, we will all whither and go away, so please don't get a bad taste for all new members.

·2 weeks agoNo, I've been selling for 27 years and I've never had this happen.
Next question....

·2 weeks agosame. I also never saw a snake in the ball pit at McDonalds
iamalwaysright
·2 weeks agoDo McDonald’s still even have ball pits anymore?
authentic*vintage
·2 weeks agoNope. Maybe because of the snakes?

·2 weeks agoI would think germs. Children are disgusting and I can't imagine play equipment harder to clean than a ball pit. Anything like slides and such can just be sprayed and wiped, but how can you do that with thousands of plastic balls? Not to mention how much decomposing food would accumulate at the bottom over time. 🤮
kensgiftshop
·2 weeks agoYa, it happens.
You refund, block the buyer and report the loss on your taxes.
ronmor83
OP2 weeks agoYeah I figured it does happen often.
kensgiftshop
·2 weeks agoKind of depends on what you sell.
Some items attract more scammers then others.

OP2 weeks agoIt was a wiring harness with two knock sensors for a vehicle. And he returned a different harness with no knock sensors

After all the dust settles, are you able to resell the item you received back?
That may help you to get back some of the losses.
