    A New Blocked Country?

Just came from the post office and clerk who is from Brazil told me Brazil is a blocked country 'today' from the Administration.

    I hope it's not true.

I love my coffee in the morning!

I already lost a great seller from Macao who will not lets USA bid on his auctions because of ongoing restrictions.

If there really was a block by USPS it would appear on this page (last updated July 18, 2025)

    https://about.usps.com/newsroom/service-alerts/international/

There is NOTHING there for Brazil.

That said, last Fall when Canada Post was actually on strike it took USPS a couple of weeks to block acceptance of mail destined to Canada (instead they accepted and stored until they finally got the message out).

I have never relied on a single news source. Try this link:

Beef too, we import about 23% of our beef from Brazil, mostly for hamburger but our coffee has almost double this last year

And we are about to start exporting beef to Australia. Somehow that seems out of whack.

Beef from Brazil. You'd think it would be from Uruguay (way better beef). Of course the Uraguayans are reputed to eat the most red meat per capita so maybe they don't export. Kind of like the best Polish vodka, none left over for the rest of the world to enjoy...................

Or Washington red delicious apples - we export all the good ones and are left with the mushy ones to eat here at home.

(I prefer Granny Smith #1-3 size apples - grown in Roosevelt, Washington and ohhhh...so good if eaten cold and fresh)

The view from my backyard in the valley below is thousands upon thousands upon thousands of apple trees going on for miles up and down the valley. Red and Yellow delicious mostly in view. Every kind I can think of within 5 miles or so from here. Close but not too close (Harvest/sprays etc.) Apple overload..........

A few years back I planted six fruit trees,,,,,no apples. Asian pears (2 kinds), plums (2 kinds) and two Elberta peach trees. I may plant a Winter Banana apple next spring though. Not common nowdays.

I do like Granny Smith for apple crisps and cobblers, none better baked.................

The Brazilian Customs Clearance clerks have been on strike since LAST NOVEMBER. Only humanitarian needs are being processed (food, medicines, etc)

Seems to me that if you have been on strike for ten months without success then maybe it is time for a new strategy - or maybe just a new line of work - if the country seems capable of staggering on without your services...

I read a newspaper article a while back concerning strikes, where one guy had been on strike for almost 20 years - um...guy, do you even remember where you're on strike from? And they seemed to have been able to spare you.

On an unrelated note, not tariffed from Brazil - Orange juice!

OK this has nothing to do with this thread BUT sometimes a a loose thread just needs to be tugged.

Orange juice is such a major crop in Brazil that some years ago Emerson Fittipaldi (a Brazilian who also owns a large orange grove) won the Indianapolis 500. It is customary for the winner to drink  a quart of Indiana milk. Not Emerson - he demanded and got a quart of Brazilian orange juice. Brand loyalty.

"the post office and clerk who is from Brazil told me Brazil is a blocked country"

Addressing Threats to The United States by the Government of Brazil – The White House

Sounds like it could happen.  The clerk likely had info from family on the other side of the equation.

There are new tariffs and restrictions on imports from Brazil, based on the persecution by the Brazilian government of its political adversaries.

Do not expect a quick resolution.

This is not a story the bulk of the media wants to report, so they do not. It has been reported though not in great detail in segment of the press.

That one where they're prosecuting an insurrectionist who wanted to overturn a fair election? That one?

Its been reported pretty widely, particularly in the financial news. What's funny about it, is that from a trade standpoint it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Then again, nothing is written in stone these days.

ETA: I have a feeling that the USPS clerk may have confused the issue.

If that were true, it would be in news articles and all over social media. My quick search revealed no one saying that.

Then I guess the clerk in the USPS post office from Brazil could be incorrect.

I cannot find anything about USA blocking shipments from Brazil.    Perhaps, the postal clerk is talking about 2-3 month delay in actually getting a package from Brazil.    Everything is held up in customs because of tariffs.
