A buyer is attempting to scam me as a new seller
I am a new seller. A buyer was unhappy from the beginning about my shipping time (I had kept in contact with them, informing them I had a death in the family and things were behind personally do to the loss I had experienced, that I would keep them updated, and I did) I had kept in contact with them and updated them as much as possible. They then claimed to "report me" for "not shipping the item" even though I had already shipped the item? They were using abusive language in the messages, even calling me names and saying I was "unprofessional " even though I kept my cool under the circumstances. Anyway, I shipped the item and when the buyer received the item they are now claiming its not as described. They took pictures of the "damage" but that was not there when I shipped the item. I have video proof there was no damage at the time of shipping because I took a video of the item for another selling platform to show the condition. The buyer has now opened a case and their claim is its "damaged" (with photos that are not my product) amd it was "dirty" and "smelled terribly of cigarette smoke" which are all lies. I don't even smoke ? I am not refunding this lady like she wants, she has been awful to be from the beginning and now is attempting to scam me. Is there anything I can do?

·3 years agoIf they file a INAD (item not as described) case you have 3 choices:
A) Accept the return. Pay for return shipping, When you get the item back, refund the buyer.
Should you accept the return and the buyer does not send the item back (which happens a lot),
you do not have to refund and you will not be charged for the return shipping label.
B) Refund the buyer and they don't have to send back the item.
C) Deny the return. Ebay will eventually side with the buyer and refund them with your funds.
The buyer will not be required to send the item back. You will lose your money and your item.
You will also get a strike against you for ebay having to step in.

·3 years agoYour a new seller who sold a somewhat expensive item in a category that, although not at the top of the list like cell phones, is still pretty high up there for scams. Most buyers do not get abusive, it is a telltale sign of a scammer. As a new seller you should never have been selling that currency. Alas, you must accept the return or Ebay will allow the buyer to keep the item and get a full refund. You will be left with nothing. As for your videos, they are meaningless to Ebay in this dispute. Resistance is futile.

·3 years ago@roxx-rubys First off, I'm sorry you got such a pain in the dupa buyer - we all get them. However, if she opens a return for 'not as described', per eBay's Money Back Guarantee, you'll have to take it. If you refuse to process the return, eBay will simply refund the buyer in your stead, she will keep the item (is it the Michael Kors bag?) and you will get an unresolved case black mark on your account, which is a serious defect.
Video is not considered proof of anything because it can be so easily faked.
Get the item back, refund, then report for abuse of MBG.
BTW, I went through this on another selling site with a Coach bag, new with tag, that the buyer went on and on about how it was 'old' and had 'dry rot', etc. etc. It's not just eBay.

OP3 years agoYes. It is the Michael Kors Bag. Even if she returns the bag and I clearly can prove that either A) she's sending me a different bag or B.) The condition of the bag was as described when I sent it, she wins? That's complete bulldonkey! I thought selling on ebay would be easy and they would have more sellers protections, seeing as how many scammers are out there. I mean, there have been countless people using this scam and they have yet to change their policy or add more protection for sellers. It makes me not want to sell on eBay anymore, and go back to FB marketplace and mercari. Plus FB takes less fees. I might just refuse and receive the "black mark" on my account because I refuse to use it anymore because ebay refuses to protect us sellers. Beyond ridiculous honestly.

·3 years ago@roxx-rubys You'll not only get the black mark, but lose the funds, the bag and everything. I wouldn't go that route myself.
But yes, she can send you back a rock and, yes, you'd be on the hook. It's like that with any online sales - a site cannot adjudicate because they don't have the item in hand, and they want to keep buyers (sellers are plentiful).
Chances are high that you'll just get your bag back. You don't take returns and I can see someone forcing a return for stupid reasons, particularly if they were a PITA from the get go, as this person seems to have been, because they changed their mind. Her behaviour seems pretty classic.
BTW, when someone gets cranky, I will always ask "Do you want to cancel the sale?" - it's surprising how often they say "yes".
