$9,000.00 sale of watch not Authenticated because of box and not original papers included
As a share holder of E Bay I hate to write this experience I had on an authentication of a watch I sold. Hope in the future it can be avoided by this company that authenticates watches and jewelry for E Bay and does not reply to phone calls and left messages. The idea of E Bay having Authentication was a good one to help buyers but when used in the way they did with this watch it is not good for E Bay as they are getting a bad name. I have been a seller on E Bay for 23 years with a perfect 100% feedback score, selling expensive Jewelry.
Here is what happened: I sold an Audemar Piguet watch on E Bay for $9,000.00. Watch was bought by me many years ago in Germany by a Audemar Piguet dealer. It was a rare pre owned watch in his showcase that he had had a while, the previous owner traded it in after 2 months for a gold one. He never kept the old box or papers.
I now decided to sell watch on E Bay using an old Audemar Piguet box I had from previous sale. Never said box or papers were original with this watch in my listing.
Watch was kept for almost 3 weeks by authenticator and then sent back saying it was turned down because "We are returning this item to you because it was found to be significantly different from the listing description." HOW ABOUT THE WRAPPING PAPER? nothing was ever mentioned that this box or booklet about this watch was original? If this is going to be there policy I think I will sells my shares of E Bay and look for another site, as I hear lots of sellers are doing.

I don’t know if it is possible to ship with Brinks and still be have any seller protection.
Wire transfers are not allowed on eBay dot com. It’s more of a European thing.

·3 years agoif the paperwork pictured does not show your movement serial number or case serial number then its sort of wrong to say it comes with papers.
the paperwork may be generic like the box, if it is then it needs to be mentioned
if you relist it you can just say generic box and paper work. then there is no problem
if the paper shown has no serial number then it really needs to be mentioned
if you say it comes with paperwork pictured then its good enough I think as long as you show it does not have a serial number filled out
if the booklet or paperwork pictured is generic then it sort of needs to be described as an instruction booklet for this reference number .
I woud post it again with more detail on what the paper work pictured is not
if you mention that the box and paperwork shown in the listing did not originate with this watch then its truthful.

·3 years agoAny buyer who sees "Box/Papers Included" assumes, and properly so, that the box and papers are original to the item, and add value to the item. It is disingenuous, at best, to say otherwise.

·3 years agoUnless you, as the seller, stated otherwise, I would assume the box and papers were original to the nine thousand dollar watch too.

·3 years agoThis is a case where the seller should have listed the watch and box separately. I honestly don't know if screaming for help to eBay for business on Facebook would help, because the "authenticators" for watches, shoes, jewelry etc have proven their total lack of worth time and again. It doesn't matter that you never said they didn't match; some inauthenticator decided they should. Hate to say it, but you probably would have been better off using a Timex box to ship with.
I was a costume jewelry etc seller for 18 years before I quit.

·3 years ago@evelyb30 I don't use Authenticator, heard too many nightmare stories about it, but I agree with you that including non original materials, box and papers, detracted from the true item being sold and maybe should have been offered to the buyer as a separate transaction (freebee)

·3 years ago(and my mother just asked why I don't sell on eBay any more....) All sellers have to remember that bots are really dumb and buyers don't read. If you're lucky they look at the pictures.

·3 years ago@Anonymous you said you never said box or papers were original to the watch, but did you say they were NOT original to the watch?

·3 years agoSorry, your listing does indeed say the box and papers were included.
"Box/Papers: Included- See pictures"

·3 years ago@luckythewinner OP is saying the box and papers were not original to the watch, not that the box and papers weren't included.
luckythewinner
·3 years agoHe said he included an "old Audemar Piguet box". He did not say the box was correct to the watch, or that the papers were correct or included.
Omission of an important fact - like that the box was not original to a $9K watch - is misleading at best.
