So an ebay rep told me if I refunded an order it would automatically cancel it an I would not get a defect. I find this really hard to believe and given their track record I just don't know if I can trust it. Anyone know for sure if this is true?

·4 months agoNo, if the workaround was that easy then everyone would know it.
Years ago I couldn't find a card I had sold, this was back when we still shipped cards with stamps, I marked it shipped and then instantly refunded the customer and sent them an apology. The next day an out of stock cancellation showed up in my stats.

·4 months agoSimply refunding an order does not tell Ebay WHY you refunded the order. Was it because you ran out of stock, the item was damaged, the buyer no longer wanted it, etc. etc.
Always use the Cancellation process, just follow the instructions on the screen and be honest. Do NOT cancel an order saying it was for a buyer's reason or the buyer requested it when that is not the case. Ebay does watch for sellers that abuse the process and it simply isn't worth it. The sanctions can be stiff.
The link @slippinjimmy is perfect. Read through it carefully.

·4 months agoI had a buyer request cancellation after I had already generated a label for their order. The buyer had submitted a cancellation request which was automatically declined because of the label being generated - bad timing.
Because of this I was unable to cancel the order, but after speaking to an agent they confirmed that the order will in fact cancel if I refund the buyer in full. (And it did)
So, be sure to use the proper cancellation method first. But if that is not available because there was already a previous cancellation request, refunding the buyer in full will cancel the order and also refund your fees. It's a last resort that works, but this does not apply if the buyer hasn't actually REQUESTED a cancellation.

·4 months agoNo, refunding doesn't automatically cancel an order, it just refunds the buyer.
To cancel an order, you have to actually cancel it.

·4 months agoIt depends on the reason for the cancellation. Why are you cancelling?
FYI - The cancel option is different than a refund option.
