$7.50 handling fee for properly declared Priority Mail or Priority Mail Express hazmat shipments #LIGHTBULBS
Summary: gwjusticestore-est.1888 expressed frustration over USPS's fees for hazardous materials, highlighting a $7.50 handling charge on light bulbs, and urged eBay to adjust their system to accommodate this charge separately on invoices. caldreamer informed that eBay already has a system for declaring hazardous items, while robot-hands suggested considering an alternative shipping method. luckythewinner outlined multiple options for handling the fee and emphasized that eBay likely won't change its system immediately. mam98031 reminded members that the forum is for user discussion, not direct communication with eBay. yeswayrecords supported the idea of giving sellers additional options to manage fees related to rural shipping charges.
#lightbulbs
"USPS charges a $50 noncompliance fee for commercial packages containing undeclared or improperly labeled hazardous materials, along with a $7.50 handling fee for properly declared Priority Mail or Priority Mail Express hazmat shipments."
This will apply to fluorescent light bulbs - as well as mercury vapor, metal halide, and high pressure sodium bulbs.
Ebay needs to step up and put in a line so that the fee for handling of $7.50 will be like sales tax, get its own line in packing slips and so forth, so that the seller can just click a box and force ebay to collect the fee for the USPS and the buyer will know that it is not the seller's fault that this fee is being charged -
otherwise, sellers will have to go up on prices and shipping and buyers will be angry and sales will suffer.
This needs to be done at once because it kicks in July this year.
I don't want to hear excuses - I want ebay to fix this TODAY. I make my living selling light bulbs on ebay and this will ruin me AND people will flee to Amazon and so forth, sellers do not need to have to take the rap for this nonsense.
For the most part, the amount of mercury in a fluorescent is less than half of a match head or a fraction thereof.

It would also be a good idea to give sellers the option to select a box to add a handling charge to those zip codes that are considered "rural" - zip codes to which USPS is now charging a significantly higher shipping rate.

·2 weeks ago@gwjusticestore-est.1888 When you post something here, you are NOT talking to Ebay or an Ebay CSR [customer service rep], you are speaking to other Ebay members. And @luckythewinner is correct, you can not dictate how or who responds. This is a public place where we can all chat and try to help each other.
I am sorry you are having an issue and I hope you find some relief for it. I hope you will respect that we are all here to try and help others as they need it.

·2 weeks ago · EditedYou do not get to dictate how others respond on this messageboard. I will also add that eBay will not fix this today, despite your use of capital letters. You have the choice to:
pass it on to buyers through shipping charges
pass it on to through the item price
pay it yourself
Find a shipper who does not charge that fee
stop selling them
That $7.50 is a shipping cost charged by the shipper. If buyers are angry about paying $7.50 more, they will be angry regardless of why they are paying $7.50 more or what line item it appears on.
eBay has hazardous materials policies, so clearly they have thought about this topic:

·2 weeks agoEBAY already has a system in place. When you create your listing you need to "check box" that indicates item is hazardous. Customer will be charged the full amount (postage + hazardous fee).
Also, just so you know, you must put "hazardous sticker" on outside of package or USPS will penalize you.
