72 store ban for prohibited item
Item violated a policy that it was a part for an assault weapon.
8 Illinois judges have blocked assault ban legislation because there is not one bill sponsor that can provide a list of assault rifles od definitions.
I mean a hammer is a lethal assault weapon
What do the bafoons at ebay support know that district judges cannot find out.
and now I'm left with unsellable merchandise for no good reason

·3 years agoDon't feel bad, eBay removed a listing of mine that was just a band tee that had a printed image of Charles Manson on it. I'd like to thank eBay now, I won't be selling any of my metal band tees on here in the future. Don't want to take the chance of eBay having an issue with things. I'll admit, it's disappointing.

·3 years agoMost firearms in the hands of common citizens goes far back in time to support a militia, nothing more, nothing less. Now we've huge swaths of the nation who buy into conspiracy theories as facts, three times as many firearms in the hands of common citizens than there are citizens. Many choose to live in fear placing more value on their lives than that of others more or less claim be sematic and spiritual in complete contradiction to they alleged beliefs.
All one need do is look to the UK which is a highly westernized nation with one fifth our population packed on a small island. They've real gun control and literally insignificant amounts of crime and domestic violence with firearms. These same statistics can be seen in places such as South Korea, Japan also very highly populated nations and next to none of our firearm issues.
I own a gun but I don't own it for fear of criminals... I own because the neighbors around me prefer to be entertained, buy into complete lies, conspiracies and think only of themselves. We've far more domestic violence than crime and that's why I own a gun.

You can also look at the other side of the coin in countries like Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Finland..... that have high rates of gun ownership but low crime rates. Maybe it's more of a Socital problem than it is a gun ownership problem as you somewhat eluded to.

·3 years agoI got a week suspension for relisting 2 vintage cap guns that were still sealed in the package. They did not have the orange plug. They were old , from the 1960s. But since mine were tiny, about 1 1/2 inches across and there was a strip of paper caps in the package, I thought that Ebay must have made a mistake in ending my auction. I figured that it was impossible for these to fire a bullet. If such a bullet were made, it would be about the size of a grain of rice. Anyway, a week later, I retook the photos and listed them. Immediately it was shut down and I was given a week off from ebay. Ebay states that no toy guns may be sold without the orange tip. That was more than 10 years ago. I don't know if the rules have changed. I still have the darn guns in a drawer. I won't list them here. The point is that sellers need to follow the ebay rules.
Perhaps you can sell off the parts at a gun show or sell them for scrap at the local salvage yard.

·3 years agoIn fact there were bullet-firing (plastic bullet) cap guns back in the 1960s. (It's amazing that we ever made it out of that decade without someone putting their eye out. 😉) I owned one back in the day.
It was a typical pot-metal cast cap gun, but there was a small opening into the barrel behind the cap being fired, and a small supply of hollow (at the bottom) red plastic bullets. The cap had just enough power to fire the "bullet" maybe 10-15 feet, if I remember right, usually just far enough to hit your little brother, and not fast enough or with enough mass to do any harm.

·3 years agoI remember my brother having a rifle that shot a plastic bullet. Anyway, my guns were LESS than 2 inches long! One was shaped like a .38 revolver and the other one looked like a tiny cowboy gun. Anyway, we survived the toys from the 1960s. I remember buying fire crackers and blowing up Gi Joes and Hot Wheels with my brothers. Some of those toys nowadays that are worth hundreds of dollars in mint condition. We also had an erector set that had parts that were sharp like a knife.

·3 years agoeBay has been jumpy about guns for a long time. There were time when even a shotgun choke tube was not allowed. and then there was the "any part that makes a gun fire" ban was in effect. The grip safety pivot pin on a GI .45 pistol count? Even some cleaning kits were removed under their bans.
I suppose perfume that smells like Hoppe's number 9 could also fall under such a ban. No this is not the venue to sell firearm parts.

The things must have decimated, at the very least, the child population of the U.S. Oddly, many millions of children all over Europe, for 40 years or more, have been unharmed by the little "surprise" toy inside. ·3 years agoeBay can prohibit any item they want, when they want and how they want. They own the sand box, their rules. They can ban items, sellers and buyers at their discretion. They don't even have to tell you why.
Anything else about the legitimacy of item or other items or even the court system is irrelevant.

·3 years agoLike ALL restricted items on eBay -- OTC drugs, "adult" materials, Black memorabilia, government-issued items, police badges, cosmetics and perfumes, you-name-it -- the policy on weapons is vague and arbitrary. It contains eraser language (phrases such as "including but not limited to") so eBay is never at fault for removing any listing. It is randomly enforced, and if the bots don't get you, reports from offended people will.
I'm not sure how it could be otherwise on a platform with 20M sellers and 1.5B listings on any given day, but it is frustrating as all get-out.
Not that any of those observations helps you, of course. But as the young like to say, "It is what it is."

·3 years agoI have on occasion acquired firearms, firearm pieces and ammunition either in boxes of stuff that I have found at sales or from friends who just wanted to get rid of the items. The difficulty with selling those items in an ecommerce market place is the the disparity in the state laws as to what is legal to sell and the terms associated with the sale.
I generally use a number of local online auction houses that have FFL's to move those items. The auction house commission rates are about the same as the eBay fees, sometimes less, because they divide the fees between the seller and the buyer. They also handle the shipping and any paperwork associated with the sale if the buyer happens to be out of state or out of country. I am also in an area that has a large gun show about once every 4 months and have moved items through that venue as well.
Given all the scrutiny around firearms I just tend to avoid listing anything related to firearms on eBay. There are alternatives to eBay that I utilize to simply avoid any potential for getting banned.

·3 years agoIt is good that they ban assault weapon parts. There is no reason that the average person should own an assault rifle. Assault weapons should only be for the military. If a person wants to own a gun for self defense he should own a revolver.

Since you went to that effort, quantify the number of violent crimes that a law abiding citizen with a gun stopped. (Tip, the number will be much higher than any published data you can find. because crimes that don't happen don't get recorded)

I have always found some irony in the fact that the politicians who advocate gun control, or don't advocate for it are the same politicians who built up the US nuclear weapons arsenal to the point that the US has the power to kill every living thing on this planet multiple times over.
Politicians worry about citizens possessing a weapon that can kill multiple people but have no issues advocating to weapons that have the ability to kill thousands/millions. I have little faith in the governments or the police to provide adequate protection to the US population. The resources to do so are reactionary and hamstrung.

The definition can be pulled from a number of places. What most people have problems with is incorrectly labeling firearms as assault weapons or assault rifles. A lot of it is a matter of opinion with regards to the firearms appearance and functionality.
Plain and simple the AR-15 has never been used by the military.

This is partially the reason for the delays in laws, it's the lack of a proper definition for assault weapon, assault rifle.
If AR-15's are banned, the only company affected is Colt.

Colt still holds the trademark for the AR-15 but the patents Colt held expired in 1977 and there are multiple companies producing similar looking rifles but they are just not labeled AR-15. I own one in a 22 LR called a M4 and love shooting the thing it's great for plinking.

Military to include the militia? Nobody can really define an "assault weapon". As for home defense you sound like a person who knows little about firearms in which case you would be better off getting a short barrel shotgun for home defense.
Maybe they should ban all cars and trucks that have the ability to exceed 85 MPH because that is the highest speed limit in any state in the US at the moment.

OP3 years agoeBay pulled the same thing 2 years ago - a listing stated "We do not sell receivers" they gigged us for 72 hours for selling grip receivers but broke the 18 year old store.
To this day listings do not appear in that storefront - we had to one a new store and move 1500 listings
What I can't wrap my head around is selling this item for 5 years and TODAY it violated policy.
I'm talking to my legal team and reaching out to attorneys familiar with eBay cases

·3 years agoProbably what you should have done first. Be sure to show them the user agreement for selling on Ebay. Arguing about the 2nd amendment and all that is irrelevant. Focus on asking them whether Ebay gets to dictate what can and cannot be sold here. Please be sure to return here afterward and let us know what they tell you.

OP3 years agoYes, all residing in the United Kingdom of California but where in eBay's TOS does it indicate they reserve the right to "reclassify" an item as a banned item when it wasn't banned when it was listed?
I don't see eBay re-classify a Turbo charged 220 hp Triumph Rocket 3 motorcycle as banned because they believe it's too dangerous to ride.
Do you have an example of this happening in the past dryophelia, where a listing is whitelisted ie, goes live and then6 months later their item is banned?

Another example is adult movies and magazines.

·3 years agoI dont know if I would include the Dr Seuss books as an example because it was the Seuss estate that asked for certain titles to be withdrawn. That was not Ebays idea although they went along with the request.
