3 Years later.... Still no protection for Disputes
I've lost about 1200$ so far this year on "NAD" returns months after their delivery, lost every one of them. And lost the items. When will it stop ?

·2 years agoI saw that, couldn't make heads or tails of it. But I also saw another one where the buyer just angrily commented that he's an Amazon drop-shipper, but he replied about how that's impossible, because the tracking starts in his zipcode (which I guess he was suggesting does not have an Amazon warehouse?).
Is it possible that for some of his items he does that Amazon FBA (fulfilled by Amazon) thing, where (I think) you start off by actually HAVING the items, then send them in bulk to Amazon, and they take care of shipping out the purchases by individuals? I could be way off on this, but I believe I recall that being 'okay' on eBay. But I remember thinking how it really muddies the waters, like how could buyers tell the difference as far as whether or not to report a seller for dropshipping, when they get their item in a smiley box either way?
Also for what it's worth, I've posts here where someone was accused of dropshipping based on them using stock photos, but it turned out they actually had the items but either couldn't photograph them for this or that reason, or just falsely believed it would be better to use the perfect-looking stock images. And I almost replied here about that possibly being the case .... along with the fact that his store is awfully small for a dropshipper .... but yeah, if he also uses copy/paste descriptions, AND the fact that he stopped replying to this thread after the first accusation .... yeah he's a dropshipper, LOL.
But I STILL haven't seen anyone address the fact that he does have Free Returns on all his items! How does a dropshipper manage THAT???

·2 years agoAlmost all amazon dropshippers have free returns.
If someone opens a return they just go on amazon request return and then upload the free amazon label to eBay.

·2 years agolooks like you are drop shipping and that's the problem.

·2 years agoAnd yet....you are one of eBay's most reputable sellers. And you consistently deliver outstanding customer service. Go figure.

·2 years agoShows how much that's worth on here these days doesn't it?
Very disheartening.

·2 years agoFrom the responses here, it seems like we're just a little confused about your actual issue.
Can you return and explain your use of "disputes" and/or "returns"?
As mentioned earlier, a buyer has 30 days to open a case with eBay. After that, he would need to ask Paypal or his credit card for help.

·2 years agoIf you lost the NADs and did not get the item back, that happens because it was either a Chargeback or because there was a dispute filed in Ebay, you tried to deny it, at the appropriate time someone asked Ebay to step in and Ebay determined the buyer should be refunded. Which is the usual outcome when you try to fight an INAD in Ebay. They won't require the buyer to return the item because you were fighting the return.
IF and I say IF you have lost the items because of claims that were file in Ebay and you tried to fight them, stop doing that. Just accept them, send the return label, get your item back and then refund the buyer.
I realize it isn't ideal and the system could be much better, but it is what we have to work with at this time.

·2 years agoLike others I am assuming you are referring to CC chargebacks. It will stop when the Federal Government changes or modifies the current laws that the CC companies must operate under regarding chargebacks. This is particularly true when it comes to NAD chargebacks and while the CC companies monitor cardholder chargebacks looking for indications of abuse there is little they can do. CC companies hate the chargeback process as much as anyone because it takes resources to handle, resolve and close out the chargebacks and that cuts into their bottom line.
There are things eBay could do to thwart what is becoming an increasingly prevalent problem but they really have no incentive to do so since that would also require resources and impact their bottom line as well.

·2 years agoTo those who believe he's a dropshipper, what makes you think that? Also how could a dropshipper have free returns? Wouldn't it freak out the real merchant to receive items back?
If I sound blonde it's because I am, and I really can't wrap my head around how dropshipping works, lol. I just know when I think I'm supporting a small business person selling out of their home like I do, but I receive something in a box with a smiley face on it (unless it's recycled which is easy to tell) and I don't want one penny of my money going to that disgusting company, I AM NEGGING THE SO-CALLED "EBAY SELLER" IMMEDIATELY.

·2 years agoVery simple. A wall of generic brand new items, each and every single one with stock photos and not a single actual photo of the item in question.

·2 years agoI keep my own inventory, I own what I sell and I sell what I own, literally I physically have the items I sell in my possession. Doing that gives me options in regards to these problems, at the very least all returns come to me but that's hardly the only option, from the very start of selling here I know every day why I chose to do things this way.

·2 years agoBased on the responses to the OP’s feedback received buyers I would not buy anything from them or advise anyone to.

·2 years agoRead the feedback and I agree, would shop elsewhere. I cannot believe he called a customer a clown, ugh!!!

·2 years agoThe message might be - you have to resolve the problem with the buyer before Ebay gets involved.
This means you cannot count on a no returns policy to help you when there is an NAD dispute. You must offer to take the return.
kensgiftshop
·2 years agoIf it's charge backs, it won't stop until credit cards decide to crack down on their members.
As long as they allow it, it will continue.
12345jamesstamps
·2 years agoIt could be because you don't actually have the items on hand for sale...so you can't see what is being shipped from a 3rd party shipper.
Perhaps you should only sell what you actually have so you can see if items are OK to send...and then you wouldn't have so many NAD....and other problems per feedbacks.
mtgraves7984
·2 years agoAnd lost the items.
@fuestor0
How could this be unless you're refunding before the items are returned? I'm confused...
soh.maryl
·2 years agoCare to offer further details? A buyer has only 30 days after delivery to open an NAD case with eBay.
So are these buyers doing credit card chargebacks?
theteamsetguy
·2 years ago@fuestor0
It will stop once offer free 30 or 60 day returns. When you offer free returns you don’t have to refund until you get the item back as long as you accept the return right away and send the buyer a return mailing label.
That way you can resell the item.
fuestor0
OP2 years agoI offer free returns. I'm a top rated plus seller
theteamsetguy
·2 years ago@fuestor0 ,
Also, are you drop shipping? Most drop shippers have no control over what, how, when and where things are being shipped which causes customer service issues.
I carry an inventory of over 7500 different items which I have in stock and know the condition of. I have multiples of most so I never have to worry about selling something I don't have.
mr_lincoln
·2 years ago@fuestor0 So is the $ 1,200 loss after you:
-Waited to refund until the items were returned as part of the INAD return claim?
-Reported the Buyers for false INAD returns?
-Withheld up to 50% of the item price, all of the Buyers' original paid shipping (assuming the sales were not Free shipping) because Buyer lied or sent you something different on the return?

·2 years agoI'm not sure but I think they mean credit card chargebacks. They said "disputes" in the title but "returns" in the body, so it's confusing for sure.
fuestor0
OP2 years agoI was responding to the person who said to offer free returns. i offered free returns. They went straight to disputes months later
gurlcat
·2 years agoYou are the original poster and this is your own title and post body, is it not? This is why you are getting a weird mix of replies. Half the people think you're talking about credit card disputes (AKA charegebacks), and half think you are talking about in-house eBay return cases. I literally don't know, would give it 50/50 from the various ways you word things.

What you reference relates to the eBay policy/process. The OP is I believe posting about CC chargebacks which is a whole different ballgame.
robbie31415
·2 years agoSelling online means literal no protection for disputes.
The reason is the payment method (in order to accept visa, mastercard etc) bakes these protections in for buyers.
eBay has to comply, but they have some protections when there is actual evidence, however for NAD there is no evidence unless it was passed by a third party (authenticator).
So either you will have to accept there is risk of this, or stop selling online.
