3 day suspension for selling counterfeit cards that are legit. Ebay incompetence once again.
Been an ebay powerseller for 18 years, and a top rated seller. I sell baseball cards mostly. Ebay recently sent me a message saying that they deemed 2 of my cards counterfeit, and removed the listings and suspended my account for 3 days. Can not list, or receive sales, as they blocked all of my 1600+ items from being viewed by buyers. The thing is.. the 2 cards were not even counterfeit. I have been dealing in baseball cards for over 50 years, have owned card shops, and know more about baseball cards than these ebay idiots. When I asked them why the 2 cards were deemed as counterfeit, they told me they were not allowed to tell me why. LOL. How ridiculous is that?!!! So I guess some moron that works for ebay, can just deem anything they want as counterfeit, remove the listing, suspend the seller, and not have to supply any explanation. I was promised 2 days in a row by 2 different reps, that a supervisor would call me. Never happened. I called again today, and was told a supervisor was ready to speak to me now. Was transferred, and spent 35 minutes on hold. I finally gave up and ended the call. Now the suspension is over, but out of my 1600 buy it now listings, 3 are visible...LOL. They owe me hundreds from back in September, because of an ebay glitch that they admitted caused it, and promised they would pay me back. 10 months later, and I haven't seen a dime. Ebay is such a joke. Run by unethical morons. Nothing but lies and empty promises.

·2 years agoIt is a shame how they get away with so many crooked things. I’ve had two of those myself. I haven’t done this for 20 years I collected as a kid and I’m collecting again now. The thing is the two cards that I’ve been accused of selling that are counterfeit we’re bought on the eBay site, so they sell me counterfeit cards turn around and tell me I’m selling a product unworthy of being purchased . One of the oldest cheapest crookedest things you can do is run a scam like that you sell it and then turn around and say that it’s a bad product when someone tries to sell it back to you. Create the disease so you can create the cure. Very sad.
mam98031
·2 years agoBecause you purchased the cards on Ebay some years ago doesn't mean they were authentic when you bought them.
I know what you are dealing with is frustrating. The reason you got the 3 day suspension would have been because you ignored what Ebay told you in the original email, likely because you disagreed with them and you posted it again. Which in the original email it told you what they would do if you ignored the warning.
So you are upset with Ebay for doing what they said they would do. How does that make sense. It is their site and they set the rules, we do not unfortunately. I say this with respect, really I do because I really do understand why you are upset.
If you have proof they are authentic cards, then you need to work WITH Ebay to resolve the issue, have them remove the violations from you account so that you can list the items. But don't keep listing the items because you feel you have more knowledge about your cards than they do as that will only lead to you getting permanently restricted from selling on the site.

·3 years agorbskie99,
Like with you, I also had two items removed, each of which was claimed to be counterfeit. As I had begun selling movies in 1992, I knew that was not correct. Unlike you, though, I accepted e-Bay's decision and did not receive a suspension.
What strikes me as curious, is that you continue to be associated with a company employing those you describe as liars, morons, idiots and unethical. I have been self-employed since 1963 and personally, would never tolerate such behavior from anyone I deemed to possess such traits.
rbskie99

·3 years agoI had a coin listed a while back that some smartypants claimed was fake. He even sent me a message and gave me his reasoning for why he thought it was fake etc, he clearly had no idea what he was talking about and i corrected him and he admitted to his mistake. Then shortly after the coin got removed because it was supposedly a counterfeit. The reason they removed it is because that guy reported it and no other reason.
Sometimes things like these happen.

rbskie99
OP3 years agoExactly. So I get screwed because of an unknowledgeable ebayer, and an incompetent employee in the counterfeit department.

·3 years agoI recently was told by a buyer that when they sent their Ebay purchase from me to PSA they were told a card was counterfeit.
They forwarded to me a message from PSA claiming the card I sold and another card sent by this buyer were counterfeit. Neither card was likely to have been counterefeited nor worth counterfeiting.
I offered to accept a return of the card and refund if the card matched the image on the listing.
Never heard from the buyer again.
Large organizations like Ebay often act on bot analysis of message exchanges. Large organizations like PSA are sometimes wrong. Some buyers are dishonest.
Selling retail is full of challenges, selling on online marketplaces has challenges which can exceed other forms of retail.

·3 years agoWere the cards in question ones in a legitimate reprint series? I have had trouble with those in the past as you cannot use the word reprint without it getting kicked back and no matter what you do with them you lose.
rbskie99
OP3 years agoNo, they were not even reprints. They were legitimate cards. The fact that they will not even disclose why it was deemed a reprint is appalling. When I asked, they said that they are not allowed to say why. LOL. Is this any way to conduct business? I have sold 159,000 items on ebay in 18 years, with ZERO negatives. Why would I list a counterfeit card to make $2, and jeopardize my account? Ridiculous. Ebay is a joke. The reps are useless, and their counterfeit team wouldn't know the difference between their A$$ and a hole in the ground.
coolections
·3 years agoWe would need to see a picture of the two cards that where removed. I can tell you for a fact you are not the first and won't be the last this has happened to. Every person who said the card was not counterfeit did not realize that a reproduction of a card IS counterfeit UNLESS it was specifically manufactured by the original company such as TOPPS.
rbskie99
OP3 years agoThey were not reproductions. The were original cards. I have been dealing in cards for over 50 years, even had 2 card shops. The ebay counterfeit team has no clue. If someone complains, they just remove it and suspend. No explanation. Period! Corruption at it's finest.
coolections
·3 years agoThat is not how it works. If that statement was true anyone could complain about anyone on Ebay and eventually everything would be removed. Once again, we need pictures of these two cards. Many come here saying their cards are not counterfeits but every one ever shown on these boards was a "non-authorized" card. Most say those should not be considered counterfeits, but once again, a reprint that is not made by the original manufacture Ebay considers those cards counterfeit.

·3 years ago@sextons-sweet-deals
A single seller reporting another seller's stuff is not enough to cause this type of reaction by Ebay. It would take multiple reports from multiple accounts that do not sell the same stuff.
rbskie99
OP3 years agoUntrue. And it wouldn't have to be a seller.. could be a buyer. I got a warning a month or so ago on a legitimate pack-pulled card, appealed it, and lost appeal with no explanation. There are nearly 100 of the same Griffey Play Ball card on ebay. The counterfeit team does not properly handle things. Unknowledgeable, or just incompetent.

·3 years agoI had the same problem about a year ago. eBay claiming my card was counterfeit but I wasn't suspended. Gave me a warning. tried talking to these ***** to no avail. Told them they were novelty cards (Years ago, they were called Brodeur cards). eBay is an authority on everything but knows nothing about everything. Now with their "new conditions", I have to add them by October. The problem is, there are only 5 conditions. No Mint, Near Mint/Mint, Excellent/Mint, Excellent. So now in my auction description, I have a card as "Near Mint/Mint" but the condition showing below the title is "Ungraded - Near Mint or better" thanks to eBay. Doesn't this confuse the buyer? Hey eBay, let me run my own eBay store!
rbskie99
OP3 years agoExactly. Ebay has no clue. A novelty card is neither illegal or a counterfeit. As for the new condition standards. All it is going to do is make more sellers leave ebay. Why would someone work for months to revise thousands of listings. This will end up costing ebay a ton of money. Clueless fools.

Also, to address that issue, even though this was not my issue.. a novelty card IS NOT ILLEGAL, and NOT COUNTERFEIT. Also, if you read the ebay counterfeit policy, it does not include novelty cards.
coolections
·3 years agoMany of them are. You still have not shown a picture of your so called LEGAL card. ALL cards on Ebay must be the "real deal". The more you respond the more I believe Ebay was right. And NO, they are not going to tell you why your card is not allowed.

·3 years agoREALLY !!! This kind of post is so unnecessary and unwelcomed.
FYI, often members use Posting IDs. They don't what their main selling account to be exposed here and risk those that don't like what they post may take it out on their accounts. And it has been known to happen.
As for @coolections , while we sometimes disagree on various subjects, they have been around for a long time, since 2017 to be precise.
ASSUMING someone is not knowledgeable because of their FB count with the ID they post with is usually very wrong. Most are very seasoned sellers. With that said, you don't even show respect for those that do have lots of experience.
You came here looking for some insight to what you have going on. Everyone here is volunteering their time. Many have posted things that they hope will help. You are certainly not appreciative of the efforts and for some reason feel the need to be rude when a post doesn't meet whatever it is your needs or opinions are. You don't tolerate people trying to help you very well. Talk about shoot the messengers. That is not what the Community is about or for.
A bit of a lecture, I know, it wasn't intended to be but it sure turned out that way. Just be kinder. This isn't social media where anything goes.

·3 years agoHi @rbskie99
After reading your OP—Checked out your listings, completed’s, sold’s, and feedback. Everything points to a phenomenal seller. Very impressive.
But to the matter at hand:
Right now i see 74 of your active listings. When a seller get suspended, listings are slow to return, as you noted.
A 3-day suspension is usually preceded by a couple of written warnings and a 1-day suspension. Have you had multiple removals prior to this? Or any other eBay issues?
You are completely wasting your time if you are calling the overseas customer service. They will often just tell you what you want to hear or whatever is expedient to cut the call short. What @mam98031 was trying to say is that you will be better served by contacting the US-based CSR’s that are trained and have some authority to help, unlike the regular call center. She gave you their links.
Now, you likely won’t like this but it needs to be said: Dude, what the hey? Your post #5 to a fellow seller was unwarranted and cruel. You came looking to the community to vent and perhaps create some meaningful discourse with fellow sellers. Then cut down the first respondent. Why?
I acknowledge you are a first rate seller who has been screwed around with and we are here to help as best we can. But who wants to reach out to someone who charges out of the gate with such hostile insults? Its late at night and not many of us night owls here. But geez! What did that accomplish?
rbskie99
OP3 years agoYeah, I guess I got annoyed and overreacted. And yes, I had a warning a couple months ago and a baseball card was removed. The thing is, that was a legitimate card, and so were these two. The fact that they removed them and suspend me without telling me the reason the card was deemed counterfeit, is absurd. I see the links that mam provided were to facebook and twitter, which I do not use. Is there any way to actually talk on the phone to one of the US based reps that you mentioned?

yes, this might be available but i’m sorry to say i cannot find the right number for it. However, when the morning “boardies†get here in a few hours, someone else will chime in here to direct you to the right source.
During the pandemic, eBay shut down their call centers for customer support and never re-opened them to pre-Covid levels. Mind boggling. They didn’t need to shut down everything—they could have still manned the phones remotely.
eBay’s business Facebook page has a portal to the well-trained, authoritative customer service reps (based in Utah, i believe). They have saved my lunch a couple of times. But i understand why using social media just isn’t a viable choice for some. I respect that.
If you don’t mind waiting til morning, somebody will be able to point you in the right direction. Sorry i don’t know. Good luck to you, and also very sorry this travesty happened to you (and made worse by some inadequate subpar customer service). Sincerely hope this gets resolved to your benefit.

OP3 years agoThanks for the kind words. I don't have much faith in getting it resolved. Ebay is slowly but surely losing my trust. 18 years worth of poor service by their reps and other departments. ·3 years agoDid you actually read my original post or did you assume you knew what it said?
It is never a good idea to ignore a warning and just assume Ebay got it wrong. That was the time to reach out to Ebay and find out what they were seeing that made them make the judgement call.
The other links I provided will go through the Call Center, to include the Call Back option. If the Chat box is available you could try that and see if you get any additional information. That has been known to happen plus you can keep a hard copy of the entire conversation, if that is important.
It likely would have been a better approach to tell me that you don't use social media rather than come after me and what I shared last night. If you use that same approach with Ebay, they most certainly will not help you.
rbskie99
OP3 years agoI didn't ignore the warning. I called ebay for an explanation, and they told me they were not allowed to tell me why they deemed it conterfeit. Also, I appealed it as a strike against me, and the appeal got denied.. also with no reason or explanation. It's like Nazi Germany.

·3 years agoWe had this folly in like 2012 when eBay opted us in the program to be on all eBay platforms in the world. eBay failed as usual to understand that our 70,000+ items at the time were going to be multiplied by, I think 7 platforms?, causing us to exceed the allowable number of items for us to have on the platform of 100,000. eBay shut down our listings at that time. I knew a VP of Seller something or other in Salt Lake and called her. She jumped on it and got us released from the suspension. However like you, the listings were coming back like 2 a min. At the time we have like 3000+. Got my eBay listing people together and we came up with an instant fix. We bulk revised the listing like 200 at a time, mind you doing nothing to the listing, just clicked revise and enter. They came back live in seconds. I think it took 30 mins. to get them all up and running. Try with a test of say 10 listing and see if it still works. Keep in mind that was in 2012 and in the last 11 years eBay has made many catastrophic changes to the platform all mostly not good.
The primary reason your listings are not coming back live quickly is the eBay backend. Little or no attention has been paid to improving the backend which is where Seller rely on their information. Huge amounts of our FVF money goes into the frontend in order to acquire more fees. I guess eBay will wait until the system grinds to a halt until they pay attention to backend of the platform.
