1st Negative Feedback -Any thoughts?
Her Feedback:
"The item description and the photographs were quite misleading. The items sent were highly tarnished and in broken condition, however, the seller did not at any stage disclose the same to me. Also, 'Avon jeweler' is not 'signed jewelery', kindly do not mislead unsuspecting buyers. I think she takes the 'junque' part too seriously, for that's exactly what I was sold."
My reply:
"Im sorry you were unhappy with your purchase. It is vintage jewelry and not new. Here is some of the items in that lot you recived:
Signed Lia Sophia "Appletini" Ring (Retired)
Signed Lia Sophia "Alex" Necklace (Retired)
Signed Avon silvertone flower basket pin (selling for atleast $10 alone)
Avon unsigned (dot in circle) Curly necklace (selling for $15-22 alone-use reverse google)
Avon "Precious Pretenders" 1971 Clip on earrings
Vintage Avon Gold Toned Dangle Leaf Earrings with Rice-Like Faux Pearl Accents -Signed on the butterly backs "Avon" goldtone leaf and faux pearl earrings (selling right now for over $16 on Etsy)
Unsigned 1928 Brand (swirl on back) goldtone pink rose earrings
Signed Trifari Necklace
Signed Napier Necklace
Signed RLL (Ralph Lauren) purple glass necklace (signed RLL etched in the glass)
Signed RLL (Ralph Lauren) 14K gold square post back earrings (signed 14K on posts and RLL inside)
Rare signed Merlite brand (M pictograph on the hangtag) clear and green rhinestone bracelet
Elephants were stamped 925 with Marcasites
Goldtone pressed real flower necklace (new old stock-never worn)
1960's Signed Sarah Coventry "Light of the East" Brooch and matching signed post back earring set
Double Ram head Goldtone Earrings
Signed W Germany mother of mary rhinestone necklace, new old stock
Vintage red rhinestone ladybug pin (collectors item)
Amber glass and pearl drop leverback earrings
The glass heart "Those we love dont walk away" memorial necklace is an unsigned Danbury Mint-(use reverse google, sells for $35-$39 alone)
Goldtone Stamped "14K" Goldtone Necklace
Faux Pearl and Black glass Necklace
Clear rhinestone Angel Pin
And more. Yes a few items had some wear/tarnish like the near antique brass embossed box, one of the bracelets and a necklace and the signed necklace and earring set had some tarnish, one goldtone necklace needed ends attached, but the majority did NOT have tarnish and were in great to excellent condition for their age. All earring had pairs".
No, my photos weren't that great, I agree. She shows one earring that a cab came off (it was in good condition when I packed it) and an antique pin that did have some wear, but the extra tiny stones were intact prior to shipping (from US to India). It is vintage estate jewelry and not new. Purchaser has zero feedback.
I know you cant please everyone but her saying its junque, broken and all tarnished is not true, so Im just on my soapbox here because I cant put all of this in my reply feedback...

·2 years agoAll I can say is I've noticed that negative or neutral FB seems to come in bursts. It's almost as they're contagious or somehow cyclical. I can go for months without a single neutral or negative but as soon as I get one 2 or 3 more are just around the corner.
I've gotten 3 neutrals this week... after several months without one. Don't get me wrong, I couldn't care less but never the less it's WEIRD!

·2 years agoIt took me a long, long time, but I finally learned to roll with unfair negative feedback. I used to get REALLY angry and lose sleep. Now, I don't take it personally and view it simply as cost of doing business. Same with "did not receive" in which case you say goodbye to the item and eat the shipping cost. Our pals at eBay aren't going to step in and help you. They're not cops and rarely use tracking to bring bad guys into line. Fortunately, the vast majority of buyers on eBay are reasonable and honest. That's why it generally works. However, every endeavor has its jerks. I think most sellers need just a touch of cynicism to do this over the long haul.
featherfootfarmfinds
OP2 years agoYes, its all just business most good a few not, but I wont loose sleep over it..yes, years ago, I may have too. Thanks for your reply ðŸ™

·2 years agoDid you ever receive any notification from the EIS program about her return? I wouldn't give up yet on this until you hear from them concerning any not as described return filed.
featherfootfarmfinds
OP2 years agoI received 2 messages from eBay and saw no reason given. Here are the 2 separate messages:
Return in progress
eBay managed return: We're handling this return on your behalf as a part of eBay International Shipping. You don't need to do anything else and won't be responsible for this refund.
We took care of this return for you
You don't need to refund the buyer, and you will not receive the item back. Thanks for trusting eBay International Shipping with this order.
featherfootfarmfinds
OP2 years agoIt could also be that Im not seeing it...

·2 years agoThat’s good so far since they are paying this for you even though it was filed as a not as described return and nothing about how the package was handled. The eBay policy wasn’t really too clear about that in my opinion. Since they are handling this, I would also expect the feedback may be removed.
featherfootfarmfinds
OP2 years agoNo it wasnt clear. I asked the seller to revise it, they wouldn't and ebay wont remove it:
Your feedback will not be revised
Hi Seller,
Buyer has declined your feedback revision request for Huge Jewelry Lot Vintage Necklaces Ring Earrings ++ Estate Items (196565148806).
Reason for declining: The original feedback I left for the seller was accurate
The original feedback rating and comments will remain in your feedback profile. Please respect their decision.
I contacted ebay to see if they would remove it, here is their decision:
We reviewed your request
Hello featherfootfarmfinds,
We reviewed your request to remove the feedback from Buyer for Huge Jewelry Lot Vintage Necklaces Ring Earrings ++ Estate Items. Unfortunately we won’t be able to remove this comment because it doesn’t violate any of our feedback policies.
We understand how important positive feedback is, but giving everyone a chance to share their experiences helps keep our marketplace trusted and fair. This won’t affect your rating as a seller.
So, I will live with the neg feedback since there is little I can do it seems. It's ok, tomorrow's another day...Thanks for your help and follows 😙

·2 years agoI still think the protections offered with the EIS program are separate from those removal options.

·2 years agoMy advice would be to change your return policy from "No Returns" to "30 day returns with seller paying the shipping cost" that way if there is a issue the buyer can escalate the return and you would have some leverage with Ebay for negative feedback removal by saying you have a 30 day returns and you are paying the shipping cost.
featherfootfarmfinds
OP2 years agoThank you for this suggestion. That makes sense.

·2 years agoI would have simply responded...
"Sorry you are unhappy with your purchase. Please return for a full refund."
featherfootfarmfinds
OP2 years agoThank you, yes in hindsight...

·2 years agoWould you please PM me this toad's username so I can block it? I sell vintage jewelry lots too, and this is exactly the kind of petty carp I do not need. -BTW most mixed lot buyers are also sellers themselves (if not on eBay then elsewhere).
If you'll humor us, check and see if she has left feedback for others, and if they're also negs. This could well be competitor sabotage. The level of vitriol in her voice, jeez.

·2 years agoYour reply contains a whole lot of great detail about the contents and condition of the items in the lot.
That is the sort of information that would have been a great addition to the listing description, rather than being send to the buyer afterward.
featherfootfarmfinds
OP2 years agoYes, I know, thats why it is mostly my own darn fault for not putting all of this in my original listing, but the negative feedback stays forever. Buyer will not revise it (I tried).
lostlarue
·2 years agoHmmmm 0 Feed Back buyer. Almost looks like reseller sabotage. Nothing in your listing description says you have Avon but your buyer points this out like it is an issue. What does your buyers feedback left for others look like?
featherfootfarmfinds
OP2 years agoI should have mentioned everything in the lot that was signed, taken better pics etc. I told the buyer in ebay messages of the Avon and other signed items, but it wasnt in the listing (my fault). But they stating items are all broken and tarnished, not true as you can see at least see that in the photos. The photos they showed in their negative feedback show a broken earring (could have occurred in shipping, and to be fair, yes some items had wear/tarnish), but may were in great to excellent condition and signed (also my fault for not mentioning that). They have no other feedback as a buyer or a seller. Now, Im wondering if it is a case of reseller sabotage...lessons learned
chevymontecarlo88
·2 years agoI thought the same thing, especially how well the feedback was written with pictures. The OP did clarify that there was some back and forth via messaging regarding that verbiage. (Avon and signatures)
Perhaps it was someone looking for a partial refund type of scam.
chevymontecarlo88
·2 years agoConsidering the feedback they left, it may be possible that they confused your sale with another. From what I see, there is nothing that says that your items are signed and Avon.
Ask them if they left you feedback by mistake before you send them a book. (long-winded message)
featherfootfarmfinds
OP2 years agoThank you. Its part my fault for not mentioning all the signed items and not photographing the lot well enough. They did ask questions via ebay messaging and we were conversing back and forth, and thats where I said there were some nice signed items in the lot including Avon. There were many signed nice pieces in the lot, so lesson learned to include every signed or unsigned details and take better photos.
chevymontecarlo88
·2 years agoLesson learned and I would not worry too much about the negative feedback. Just respond to the feedback left and do not leave them feedback as others have suggested.
-Good luck
featherfootfarmfinds
OP2 years agoYes lesson learned. I learned about the fact we sellers cant leave buyers negative feedback as I didnt know that. Thank you for your reply.

·2 years ago@featherfootfarmfinds
How did you reply? In a message?
You have the opportunity to reply to the buyer's feedback on your feedback page.
I recommend that you do so, in a polite, professional and courteous manner that shows the world that you are responsible, honorable and had no intention of misleading anyone.
You can also mention that the buyer is always welcome to return your items for a full refund.
This one bad feedback will not be detrimental to your sales if you respond as I suggest.
Having said all that, was there more information that you could have disclosed to the buyer?
featherfootfarmfinds
OP2 years agoYes, I replied (as shown above) in a polite, professional manner to the buyer. I have asked for feedback revision (perhaps to atleast a neutral?). As stated, I agree my photos could have been better and the description more detailed (I was not at home at the time of photographing them- so thats my fault. But for them to state they were ALL junk, tarnished and broken is absolutely not true. As of right now. it looks as though I am only allowed to leave them positive feedback in rebuttal. The buyer has made a return.
fbusoni
·2 years agoAs of right now. it looks as though I am only allowed to leave them positive feedback in rebuttal.
You do not need to leave the buyer feedback.
I am suggesting that you respond directly to the feedback the buyer left you.
I looked at your feedback page and did not see that you had so responded.
featherfootfarmfinds
OP2 years agoOh, so I dont leave them feedback? So how do I "respond directly to the feedback the buyer left you"? please TIA
featherfootfarmfinds
OP2 years agoThank you, yes, I found the area in which to reply to the feedback (It only allows so many characters), but I have done so..
soh.maryl
·2 years ago". . . it looks as though I am only allowed to leave them positive feedback in rebuttal."
There is no situation at all ever where a seller can leave buyers negative feedback.
featherfootfarmfinds
OP2 years agoThank you, I did not know that.
fern*wood
·2 years agoI would not concern myself with the feedback until the return has been completed. I'm guessing you are not in the ebay international shipping program or they would be handling this. I notice in your terms of sale you state the buyer is to pay for the return shipping for not as described returns and this is not correct.
featherfootfarmfinds
OP2 years agoYes, I did sell the lot through the ebay international shipping program. They returned it with ebay and I dont know how that works, but I got a message from ebay saying the buyer requested a return, but Im not responsible for it. So does that mean ebay will eat the sale?
fern*wood
·2 years agoInstead of offering my opinion, I will offer the link I just read again which might help. I find it not entirely clear on the not as described return where it states you are protected, because it also adds a couple disclaimers. I haven't had a NAD return since using the program, so possibly another seller with personal experience can clear up any questions on that.
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/...
featherfootfarmfinds
OP2 years agoThank you for this link for international shipping. It says:
"You're protected from:
The obligation to refund the buyer
eBay Money Back Guarantee cases
Payment disputes
Open 'Not as described' returns in your service metrics
Negative or neutral feedback related to item handling during international shipping"
Im wondering about that last line. I will contact ebay customer service to see what this means and if it applies to my sale.
brightlightbookseller
·2 years agoMy reading of that is that it would not apply in this case, because it was about the item and not about it's handling. You can always try to get it removed, though! You do that here: https://www.ebay.com/sellerhelp/feedback (start there, not with customer service, both because it's easier and because they might not help if you haven't tried that first).
gurlcat
·2 years agoYes eBay will pay the refund on your behalf. But don't feel bad about that; they sell EIS returns and non-forwardables to a liquidator who has a store right on eBay! Currently has 28,693 items for sale. -BTW they also buy (or just get from eBay as part of the deal) the original seller's photos, description, the whole 9. So don't be surprised if you see this lot of yours on a screen near you, in a few weeks or so (that was how I accidentally discovered that store, seeing the ghost of my EIS return in a search result). BTW I've bought from them a few times -looks like they don't even open the package, just slap a new shipping label over the old one! I can't even imagine how much money they make, and with 90% of the work already done for them, LOL.

I'm glad you're not too vexed. Another recent thread is by a seller who got their first neg and closed their whole decade-old store because of it. Yes, really. I'm a former teacher and I don't know if anything has changed but last I knew, 97.5+ = A+. And you have 98.9.
Also buyers aint dumb. They'll read this feedback and see this one for what she is. She doesn't even make sense -so, you "take the 'junque' part too seriously" ??? What does that even mean? You didn't call the lot "junque" (nor junk), so what is there to take seriously? And Avon jewelry isn't signed jewelry? Um, a signed piece is a SIGNED piece, period. Maybe she thinks Avon is too common and "cheap" to count as signed, but if that's what she meant, what other brands' marks shouldn't "count" in her book? By the way, there are tons of Avon collectors out there, and some of their stuff fetches NOICE money!!
Here's the only thing I would caution against. -Maybe you photographed this lot before you got that nice white stage I see in some of your other listings, or maybe this lot just didn't fit on the stage. But I would highly recommend any time you have to improvise, photograph on a white background even if it's just paper towels on the kitchen table. Definitely avoid the floor, a bed, or a chair (places where feet and butts have been). -I wouldn't care; lol I get GREAT deals on foot and butt lots because people with a strong 'ick factor' won't bid on them, but I have a handy spray bottle of 90% alcohol. 🤣
featherfootfarmfinds
OP2 years agoThanks for your lengthy reply (and the laughs). I didnt know about the EIS resale, but its not surprising. I dont care or mind what someone does with them after the sale.
Your right about the fact that I shouldve had these in better lighting with more details in the listing. I usually do, but I was at my Aunts and was being hurried-anyway, lesson learned!
Wow, sad to hear someone else closed their entire store after a decade and one neg FB.
Yes Avon is signed and not junk nor were the many other pieces.
I'm wondering for an international sale through he ebay program, if my items could have somehow gotten switched for some tarnished, broken junque?
Also, does anyone know if they repackaged your sold items at a hub?
gurlcat
·2 years agoFrom what I understand repackaging is rare, like only if poorly-packaged in the first place, and maybe some high-dollar items to make sure a seller isn't trying to pull an easy return-proof scam. Even if they did open up a mixed lot of jewelry I really doubt they would open 2 at the same time on the same table.
This buyer is simply LYING. If there was such horrors like she said, then why did she only photograph one popped-off cabochon (which she probably did herself, and will just glue it back on). She's scum, period. She knows you aren't going to see the jewelry again to confirm or debunk her claim, in fact she'll probably keep the best pieces and send the rest back to eBay.
(please please please PM me her username so I can block her)

·2 years agoGetting a red hickey every now and then is not the end of the world. The neg will disappear being visible in 1 years time from your FB ratings. Your selling performance is NOT affected by it (used be a measurement of sellers status). Heck most people I've run into never received all !00% on their report cards all the way from K to 12 and beyond or in marriage. or relationship or etc.
You admitted to something got messed up on the clarity of the photo - things happen, no one is perfect. Hint for the future don't be so defensive if this happens again. IMHO your response to the neg way too wordy, looks way too defensive. Keep any future response short, sweet, to the point = professional . Understand your ego has been shattered but it sure isn't the end of the world - but the whole eBay world can now see your reply - I certainly did not read all the way thru it - consider it a learning experience. Throughout a 41 year career in tete-a-tete selling heard this tidbit of information over, over and over - "with your best efforts consider yourself very lucky if you please 80% of the people you run into along your journey".
Ciao & Pura Vida
featherfootfarmfinds
OP2 years agoYes, lessons leaned certainly on my photos & description. Of course its not the end of the world to get a red mark, however the person lied-saying it was all broken, tarnished junk when it was not. I came on here (yes admittedly to vent a bit) and to get other thoughts, advice, feedback etc. and Im glad I was able to say what I needed to say. Nothing to do with a shattered ego for getting a red mark (or perhaps even a few down the road..who knows..). I should have aptly named the post "How would you react- or not- when someone lies on your feedback?"
I doubt the whole world is looking at my post (that would be ego for me to think).
I received some good feedback, thoughts, advice and even opinions.. Thank you everyone. Have a great day/night 😊 tomorrows another day.

·2 years agoDidn't say the whole world would see but the whole eBay world "can" as in they have the ability to do so if they so choose.

·2 years agoI don't see anything wrong with her reply. It's "wordy" to refute the things the buyer claimed in HER wordy comment, which made numerous scathing and untrue accusations. I don't know if you buy jewelry but I do, and if I was considering buying from the OP, the negative comment might give me pause (probably not because it's the only one, but it might make me scrutinize her listings more). But seeing the reply she wrote would clarify to me that that buyer was just full of spit.

LOL you want to see what BAD wordy replies look like? And the thing is, the things people claim in their negs are absolutely true. And yet she still gets an insane amount of sales, and has 95% positive feedback. She never ceases to astound me. -I hadn't read her feedbacks in a while, looks like she is starting to get downright paranoid about eBay so I wonder how long they'll put up with that. My guess is she promotes her listings at a crazy high rate, so that's why they tolerate her.
