People saying somethins isnt wrong with ebay are just wrong. I had a consistent listing and next day item watcher amount. I would do my average listings and next day have 10 to 15 new watchers. I am now, to make up for lack of sales, listing 2x the amount and getting 3 to 4 watchers per day. That is insane. Something is either wrong with the search or none of my followers are seeing my items. I have over 400 followers that generally are the ones who watch and follow my items. Where are they? They all just disappeared? This is beyond wrong. How am I doung 2 to 3x the amount of work with 90% less results? Even if people were not buying as much they would still be watching items. Where are the watchers?
Something is wrong with Ebay. Like usual some overpaid clown over there has to prove there worth by completely screwing up the algorithm. My sales are dead and its not the economy it's ebay search engine.
I tend to be an optimist and never look at the short term daily sales there are simply too many things that happen on a daily basis. It looks like you have done pretty well over the last 90 days with 330 sales over the last 90 days or about 4 a day on average.
EBay is what it is and is but one venue I use to sell and move items so I also look at it from a bigger perspective and evaluate the entire marketplace that I sell on. I will agree that in the face of increasing competition eBay is loosing market share and my sales on eBay have continued to decline while other venues are picking up that decline and in fact improving my overall sales. In today's ecommerce marketplace I would never limit myself to one selling venue/platform.
There are some things about eBay that give it an edge over the competition but there are also the disadvantages to eBay that make it a less desirable venue for me to sell on.
I did a search of "sterling silver rings" and currently there are over 3.1 million yes million of them on ebay. I think a big reason why sales are down for a lot of sellers is because the number of items listed in many categories has sky rocketed with elimination of listing fees and the ease to list items on ebay these days.
With that many listings it shouldn't be too hard to find a Seller with a better feedback rating or one that doesn't refer to his Buyers as liars or " unsmart"......
I've been an eBay user forever and recently started a store to pay for family medical bills. I'll also add my voice to the lack of eBay sales, but I think it comes down to people having less disposable cash and competition being fierce. There are a lot fewer impulse buys and more people making the effort to save as much money as possible. I sell a mix of items, almost all of them on the cheap side, and all my items will eventually move but I find myself having to chase down every sale these days. Blame the imminent global depression.
I'm so glad I saw your post. I've not sold a thing despite lots of watchers. I also have items on that will get not one single view. Its incredibly frustrating. Are there any alternatives?
Working class people are really poor right now. When I go shopping, I buy the necessities. I splurged earlier this year on a new phone and ended up selling that a couple months ago. Next year things probably will be better...but personally, 2023 has been pretty crummy in many ways. When I do buy online now, it's usually cheap books and DVDs that are <$5.
Except for two days in the past 3 weeks, I've been getting 1 sale a day around 9am-11am. Then absolutely no activity the rest of the day. It's the most bizarre stuff I've seen on this site because other resellers I interact with have said they've never seen the site behave this way in decades.
I'll go entire days with no watchers either which is crazy AND I'm running 12% promoted BUT my views are some how LOWER with promoted on? Please make it make sense! Fix your site!
Historically I've had 80-90% of my sales in the morning, between about 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. Pacific time - this is going back years. It's just odd.
I find that most of mine either come in early in the morning or later in the evening. Midday tends to be a pretty dead zone for me, but that's not a huge surprise when you consider that most people are working at that time.
I sell in the absurdly over-crowded clothing and computer peripherals markets (though I'm running out of the computer stuff) and don't have that many items up. I sell 1-3 items on average a day - sometimes not selling anything for days, then selling 6 items in one day, then I'm back to the 1-3 items.
There are 1.7 billion items on this site. There is a search with somewhat unknown algorithms that are constantly being tinkered with (it's the nature of search development). We are selling to a constantly changing market consisting of human beings who are perhaps, perhaps not, rational. Competition even in the last three or so years has soared. If I tried to figure out why my sales are the way they are (after I optimise everything possible), I would be loonier than I am already.
Ebay likes to keep my sales pretty much a horizon line in my sales chart one spike or two but very strange I made nearly exactly the same amount 3 days within past 4 days now seems I have a monthly gross $ cap too?
A quick look at your listings indicates you mainly use BIN/Best Offer. eBay has recently ramped up requiring BUYER IDs to first submit a payment source that will be immediately billed if you accept an offer. The main thing this does is PREVENT the Buyer from making multiple offers with the same seller for a combined shipping total. That means if they make offers on ten rings, shipping for the buyer would be $35. there is no way for you to discount it, or send a combined invoice. They all become separate transactions. That does not begin to address the extra costs to you, but does discourage multiple sales. It also discourages buyers in general since they give up many of their payment options with this feature. For example, can't use spendable funds, coupons from the seller or eBay, partake in specials offered by the seller, use GooglePay, ApplePay, PayPal credit, or PayPal Pay in 4.
You can check the buyer requirements on this page. If the last two were left at eBay's default of YES, it does not help. Though it may reduce Non-Payers, it does reduce those that pay as well.
Your listings are very specific so chances it will come up by a simply search are slim, If your profit margins are good you will need to be using promoted listing to at least 5%.
Many of those that would agree with you aren't here anymore. They sure as heck don't come here to post. You need to go elsewhere for answers or sympathy. This is the "cheerleading" section.

I tend to agree with him, and I'm still here. But, I have given up trying to convey any common sense into the cheerleaders.
So, I don't post a whole lot.
Yes, yes, when hundreds of people selling radically different assortments of things all have the same problem with the same platform, it must certainly be individual problems with the individual sellers, can't possibly be the one thing they all have in common.
Replying to my own because of the absurdly short edit timer.
I think there is a serious problem with the way Ebay calculates visibility, which emerges when people have a large stock of items, and want to maintain that size of inventory, not grow it. Ending things might hurt your visibility. But not listing things might also hurt it. It's a catch-22 situation.
The people I know who make the best sales on Ebay, selling precisely the same sort of merchandise that I do, tend to be the energetic listers who put up 20 items every day somehow and never end anything. Heck, when I was doing that to get all my store inventory online, I made better sales volume. But what do you do, after doing that for 2 or 3 years, and you literally have as much inventory as you have store space to manage?
You know what I'd like to see on this forum? A weigh-in on the subject, from a seller of average collectables, who has like 10,000 items in stock, isn't expanding, has prices that are fair value not overly low or high, and makes the 20 or so sales per day that really should be coming, minimally I think, to the person with that level of inventory.
I think you can get to that point but it's hard and you need luck. I think you need to catch those 20 sales every day while expanding and then backfill each day with 20 and never ever miss a day, and probably still y ou need luck. Because this algorithm is just that unstable and when it slips down a notch, it's hard to ratchet back up.
Many of those that would agree with you aren't here anymore. They sure as heck don't come here to post. You need to go elsewhere for answers or sympathy. This is the "cheerleading" section.
@joliztoyco —It is offensive to apply the term “cheerleader†to fellow posters, since it seems to be both an insult and putdown, an effort to invalidate those who may have different opinions and/or practices.
There is room for every voice. It is a shame that thoughtful discourse can be sidelined by those who feel the need to label participants rather than explore their viewpoints.
And, if you're lucky, they might figure out how to bring you out of invisibility on the day before your store fees are due, so that they can grab the entire monthly take on those store fees.
It is amazing how screwed up things on ebay are becoming.
Ebay sells nothing. Only YOU can get buyers by giving an item people want at a price they are wiling to pay. Not only offering your stuff at the correct prices, but also having best pictures and descriptions compared to your competition.
Uhhh...guy has over 1200 positives and 3 negs in the last year. 99% of buyers would look right past them. And most buyers don't know they can click on the negative feedback to single them out to review. We do. So do you REALLY think they're going to sort through page after page of FB's to read his 3 WHOLE comments left? Yes...he could use the art of "sarcasm" a little better when he replies to a negative feedback. But to each his own. And hardly the reason for his disappointing sales. And 7000 listings is a hellava lot. His almost 19000 FB's means he's probably sold 30,000+ items. Which makes you and I "small timers" compared to him. And we all know (At least most of us do), his 1200 Fb's in the last year probably means he sold 2000 items on the low end?? Just basic math skills tell me he should average over 5 sales a day? Over 150 a month? So where do you come up with " You don't sell a lot"?
You posted:"Out of 7,268 active listings he/she only sold 359". What does that even mean? Is that in a week? In a Month? We all know that it's a fluid stat that changes every day. The only thing "factual" about it is that as the seller adds new items, one stat ticks up. As they sell items, the other ticks down. It proves nothing. "Factual" is the 1200+ items they've sold in the last 12 months. Probably more. Figures out to a pretty sweet 16% sell through rate on 7200 listings. Probably more. "Banter" ended. Happy Sales!!
Exactly my point. Average of 5 sales/day so it wouldn't be uncommon for him to have a day or 2 with no sales. Would you rather have 150 sales on the 30th day of each month or have 5 sales per day for 30 days straight?
I average 12/day, some days I only have 5 while others I have 20, some day I might only have 3 and if I had a day with zero(which has been a while now) then so be it. To make sure I always have consistent sales I make sure to only source the best possible most desirable quick selling items as I can.
Feedbacks mean nothing aside from getting a round about number of how many items they've sold which is irrelevant since it shows lifetime sales right on our page. You also don't have to sort thru anything, you can just click on the negative feedbacks and they'll all come up. I have more feedbacks in the last 12 months than he does but that doesn't mean anything. His average sale price and/or net profit may be a lot higher than mine. He may have more combined orders etc... I don't care about any of that. I'm concerned with MY business and sales. I'm just here to respond and try to help others as well as voice my opinion like anyone else can.
I also never said that the negative feedback replies is 100% the reason he may not be getting the sales he wants BUT their are customers out their that will take time and look and possibly walk away because of that. Albeit it's most likely a very very very small percentage but again I was just bringing it up.
You are correct, 7,000 active items is a lot BUT having thousands of items in your store doesn't mean you're going to get a lot of sales. I could have 100,000 active items in my store but if they aren't good desirable quick selling items that people want then I wouldn't expect to get a lot of sales. I have more sales now than when I had a 3k+ active item store.
Amount of active items in your store means absolutely nothing. Same thing as if you had a brick and mortar store selling bags of air. You NEED to sell merchandise or services that people WANT.
Actually i have 18000 across 2 stores. Since 2016 over 4 million in sales. There was a time 9-10000 listings produced 15-20 sales a day. This was consistent up until oct 2021. Sales on ebay have been tumbling across the board. This is not happening on other platforms. They are out selling ebay with half the items.
You gotta get on board of the PROMOTED listings, it is the new norm.
Specially in the apparel, jewelry, chloting deparment.
It may be the norm for some but it is a death spiral for others. I have never used PL and never will. There is NO way to prove that PL improves sales. It may improve views but who really cares if nobody is buying. One thing is for sure PL costs the seller money or forces them to raise their prices to cover the cost and eBay is the one who really benefits.
I seldom buy anything on eBay these days simply because the prices have increased and I can find almost anything on eBay cheaper on another ecommerce site or in a B&M store. The rise in shipping cost is also becoming a huge factor and will continue to have an impact.

*IF* you can get it on an other site or a B&M store. Once again, as I keep trying to remind people, eBay's strength is in having stuff you cannot get just anywhere.

Years ago that was the case but not so much anymore. The few things I have bought in the last year I found elsewhere as well. Ironically I have ordered several things from international sellers on other venues that even with the higher shipping the total price has been less than eBay or other domestic sites, it just took a bit longer to get.
ive noticed this too , I also see less external ads for ebay.. Something is wrong when my hard to find business website sells more than ebay now. ( 2 yrs ago it was 10-1 ratio in favor of ebay/.
The lower class and lower middle class are probably not spending as much as they used to. That may be one factor. The website no longer targets low spend buyers. That in the way of advertising. The advertising is geared at high spend buyers who buy extreme high priced luxury good, collectibles.
I am really frustrated and disappointed that e-bay changed their format to a larger than life format which highlights other sellers items right smack in the middle of listings! I am a small-scale seller who pays for a basic store and puts a lot of time and effort into creating my listings. Right in the middle of each listing, larger than life big, before a buyer even gets to the listing description are a stream of other peoples items. It was bad enough when they were there on a smaller scale.
I was out of the country for most of October so sales obviously have been down for me. But really, can someone help me understand why e-bay would do this to sellers? Put sponsored items at the bottom of a page......not right smack dab in the middle of a sellers page! Could be another reason why people are complaining sales are down. It's a dog eat dog world out there! Thank you for your input.
It's a drive to monetize every pixel they can. The site doesn't care if you make the sale, they just want the sale (i.e., the fees) or the clicks from those sites that send people right off eBay. There's a lot of lip service about helping sellers sell "even" more, but they don't care which sellers make more.
A number of popular sales platforms use ad programs, eBay is just the most egregious insofar as ad placement. Etsy is sneakier but at least they use an off-site ad program.
That makes total sense.....why would I think e-bay would care about my individual sales? Big business! Thank you so much for your input ~ a lightbulb went off finally. On the bright side I did have 3 sales over the weekend after 4 slump days with no sales 🙂
Also, as a side note, most buyers shop from the apps on their devices and not from a laptop computer which is where I post my listings from and also when I noticed the newer larger listing format. Does e-bay think we all need glasses? The app does not have ad placement on individual listings...yet!
Oh, really ? I see my sell thru rate increased even I state the truth on any Neg feedbacks. if it's buyer's fault, it is. And also, what is crucial is my return ratio goes down tremendously by expelling or scaring bad buyers out of my reign.
Nowadays, the majority of online scams stem from buyers, not sellers.
How much more pretentious and melodramatic do we need to be? Do we still need to endorse the outdated notion that 'the customer is God! and is always right'? Time has changed, the extreme buyer-centric transaction rules have turned 'the customer is God' from a godsend into a devil.

Make no mistake, it is the sellers that are taking advantage of the buyers as the main problem here on eBay and why sales are faltering as eBay becomes less popular as a buying venue.
Everyone gets a few bad buyers over the years. Nothing as compared to the unscrupulous sellers running rampant on the site.
If anyone needs more protections and interaction with qualified eBay employees, it would be the buyers, hands down.
eBay's major downfall comes from bad management. Not from sellers. Trying to blame everything on sellers is a stale sophistry. Many sellers who lost sales on eBay have actually reaped a bountiful harvest on other platforms.
I'm sure if you start a promoted listings advanced campaign and set all of your listings at atleast 2% on a promoted listings standard campaign and send out some coupons to your followers and recent customers, you will start getting sales. Good Luck!
THAT MIGHT WORK. I think he should at less at try it. It may get those listings higher in the search appearing on page 2 thousand instead of page 10 thousand.

You have averaged 3-4 sales a day for the last 90 days.
Anyone who has worked B&M retail will tell you there are days when you are run off your feet and days when you rearrange the stock endlessly.
The trick is to look at monthly sales not daily.
And use the down time productively.
Check your oldest listings for problems and fix those problems.

·2 years ago@joliztoyco —It is offensive to apply the term “cheerleader†to fellow posters, since it seems to be both an insult and putdown, an effort to invalidate those who may have different opinions and/or practices.
There is room for every voice. It is a shame that thoughtful discourse can be sidelined by those who feel the need to label participants rather than explore their viewpoints.

Ebay is no longer the gold mine of years before, for manny sellers.

Then day 30.
And, if you're lucky, they might figure out how to bring you out of invisibility on the day before your store fees are due, so that they can grab the entire monthly take on those store fees.

·3 years agoEbay sells nothing. Only YOU can get buyers by giving an item people want at a price they are wiling to pay. Not only offering your stuff at the correct prices, but also having best pictures and descriptions compared to your competition.

·3 years agoYou don't sell a lot to begin with so not having a day or 2 without sales, for you, is most likely not out of the ordinary.
You also don't have 10k+ listings active, you have 7,265 items(at least that's what it says on my end).
Combine that with your negative feedback replys, I'm sure their are some buyers that see those and decide not to purchase from you.
joliztoyco
·3 years agoUhhh...guy has over 1200 positives and 3 negs in the last year.
So where do you come up with " You don't sell a lot"?
coolections
·3 years agoOut of 7,268 active listings he/she only sold 359.
joliztoyco
·3 years agoSo that 1200 Feedbacks in the last 12 months is "fiction"?

·3 years agoOut of 7,268 active listings he/she only sold 359.
I already answered a factual question for you. No need for further banter.
joliztoyco
·3 years agoNo "banter" intended.
Never was.

·3 years agoExactly my point.

·3 years agoActually i have 18000 across 2 stores. Since 2016 over 4 million in sales. There was a time 9-10000 listings produced 15-20 sales a day. This was consistent up until oct 2021. Sales on ebay have been tumbling across the board. This is not happening on other platforms. They are out selling ebay with half the items.

Years ago that was the case but not so much anymore. The few things I have bought in the last year I found elsewhere as well. Ironically I have ordered several things from international sellers on other venues that even with the higher shipping the total price has been less than eBay or other domestic sites, it just took a bit longer to get.

·2 years agoThe lower class and lower middle class are probably not spending as much as they used to. That may be one factor. The website no longer targets low spend buyers. That in the way of advertising. The advertising is geared at high spend buyers who buy extreme high priced luxury good, collectibles.

·2 years agoI am really frustrated and disappointed that e-bay changed their format to a larger than life format which highlights other sellers items right smack in the middle of listings!

·2 years agoIt's a drive to monetize every pixel they can.
Etsy is sneakier but at least they use an off-site ad program.
scrapaholic57
·2 years agoThat makes total sense.....why would I think e-bay would care about my individual sales? Big business! Thank you so much for your input ~ a lightbulb went off finally. On the bright side I did have 3 sales over the weekend after 4 slump days with no sales 🙂
scrapaholic57
·2 years agoAlso, as a side note, most buyers shop from the apps on their devices and not from a laptop computer which is where I post my listings from and also when I noticed the newer larger listing format. Does e-bay think we all need glasses? The app does not have ad placement on individual listings...yet!
shar_27
·2 years agoOh, really ?

·2 years agoMake no mistake, it is the sellers that are taking advantage of the buyers as the main problem here on eBay and why sales are faltering as eBay becomes less popular as a buying venue.
Everyone gets a few bad buyers over the years. Nothing as compared to the unscrupulous sellers running rampant on the site.
If anyone needs more protections and interaction with qualified eBay employees, it would be the buyers, hands down.
shar_27
·2 years agoeBay's major downfall comes from bad management. Not from sellers.
Trying to blame everything on sellers is a stale sophistry.
Many sellers who lost sales on eBay have actually reaped a bountiful harvest on other platforms.
