Novices Flipping Printers (and other things they don't know about)

Granted, since eBay is "The Wild West", with little or no law to abide by, and "Caveat Emptor" seems to be the only mode flippers work by, I decided for once and for all to chime in on this. Firstly, Yeshua is my boss. (if this is mystery, use the internet to look it up) I am a retired HP Repair Specialist, I am 68 years old. I am fairly well educated. I have Laser Jet Technology, Desktop, Workstation and Laptop certification, and 20 years experience in IT. I exclusively use Canon Pixma Inkjet printer models that have the ability to do direct disc printing. I have done so since 2013. I have owned multiple models starting with my first MX922 bought new in 2014. ($99). Look up one that the "flippers" sell new in the box for now...... Seeing is believing. I know better than to buy older printers from ebay UNLESS they are new and sealed. I prefer the older Pixma models, they are made better, their modern day equivalents are junk. The exception is the pro photo printing model. The other exception is someone who is replacing their OWN PRINTER and knows everything about it and will be transparent about the why and condition. You can easily separate the flippers from the owners, selling their OWN product by carefully reading the descriptions. I will address selling new old stock sealed first. It seems that there are sellers at any given time that either bought and stockpiled them when they were released or acquired them somehow or another. Selling a printer that was released at a Suggested Manufacturers Retail Price, in the past 8-10 years, they now ask 4 to 6x times as much. I don't care what you say about capitalism or free enterprise. It's disgusting. I found one lone seller where I did buy from, that was under $200 for an older sealed model. That was rare. Ok, so what's the big deal if I am a tech and all that, and I have the capacity to buy USED and fix it ? Here's where the really sore spot is: I would say 99% of the printer sellers are flippers. A) They bought them at a thrift shop. B) They are not tech savvy. C) Because of B they rarely give all the necessary information about what's wrong with it, which generally there is. D) Techs like me ask the questions and don't readily get the info (because I tell them I am a tech). E) Many do categorize them as selling for "parts", and at a ridiculous price. So as a buyer its a gamble. Real world summation. Most have bad print heads, when buying print heads, NEVER buy anything other than original, 3rd party is garbage, I know, been there done that. OEM (Original Equipment Manufactured) print heads I can buy for about $100 here in the USA. Actually bought a returned one from Character Computing (Dan is great and a believer) for half price. Flippers (buying them from a thrift shop or whatever, cheaply) and then selling for (used without a proper description or for parts) $100 (plus shipping) and up, is unrealistic. Especially when you can buy a brand new photo printer (less the scan and copy function for around $240 with a warranty) that prints on discs. Flippers, unless they are familiar with their products (printers or otherwise) should either LEARN or don't sell. It is a complete farce and disservice to an unsuspecting buyer. TRUE the buyer must remember Caveat Emptor. Although it may lawful to practice selling in this manner, it sure is unethical. God sees it that way. I won't support unethical sellers. And I wish others would follow suit. Sincerely, Steven Bidelman Matthew 5:17 (The Old Testament was not invalidated), read your Bible

How to handle this lost package claim?

I shipped a package to a buyer with a Florida address. A few days after the tracking number said delivered, the buyer messages me and says they didn't get it. He also goes on to explain that he is actually in the Bahamas and the Florida address was a receiving company that was going to forward it to the Bahamas. It seems like an odd situation, why not just have me ship it straight to the Bahamas? I filed a lost package claim with USPS. It was denied as expected, since the tracking number claims it was handed to someone on site. How should I proceed? I could appeal the denied claim, but I expect that to be a waste of time. Should I just eat the cost and refund him?

      "Mark as answered" option gone?

I have about a half-dozen listings which are marked with "respond to questions" in the seller "manage active listings" view. There used to be an option where you could mark a question as answered, and I'm no longer seeing it. Where did it vanish to?   These aren't actually buyer questions, since I always answer those quickly. They are responses to my replies -- literally short bits like "thanks for the reply."   Help!

System Billing Loop Lock on Order 06-14867-79786 (Ref# 1-506903543557)

On July 6th, I followed an eBay phone agent's explicit, step-by-step instructions to issue a manual refund for Order #06-14867-79786, with the explicit promise that the system would automatically resolve and cancel the transaction. Instead, the advice broke the platform automation. The transaction is stuck in a permanent ghost state, blocking all manual cancellation options and showing the error message: "A cancellation already exists on this order." Because of this technical loop, my ledger shows a negative balance of $440.40, and eBay is actively siphoning funds from a completely separate, legitimate buyer's payout to cover their own system error. I spent 12 hours on the phone trying to resolve this, only for a Tier 2 supervisor under Reference #1-506903543557 to tell me that no one can alter the system and to "just forget about the money." I have emailed the executive team. I need an official community manager or billing specialist to escalate this specific system lock and manually adjust my ledger balance.

      Top Rated Seller Discount missing

I reached out to eBay's chat agent last week on the 8th of july 2026 and explained I have several items (42) sold that were missing the top rated seller discount of 10% off of seller fees. They assured me that it was a glitch as I have no bad seller metrics, no other issues to take the discount away. Also it is random because some same type items in the same categories have it and some dont. Also some multiple item sales dont have it but the same item purchased in singles do have it. They said thet would have it fixed, fees credited back to me, and all future sales fixed in 3 business days and they would respond to me with the fix. Today marks day 8 or 6 business days taking out the weekend and nothing has been fixed and no one has responded back to me on it. I still have sales daily that have or dont have the discount. I know it is not much sometimes but it all adds up if the system keeps stealing from me for a year, 2 years, etc. they were supposed to check my entire account to look for any missing. Anyone else have this issue and has it been fixed for you ? I tried chat again today and it only gives me the option to email them now and no live agent. I have a copy of the complete transcript of the chat with the specialist on the 8th.

Can't get through to eBay help via FB; buyer opened INR refund before USPS GroundAdvantage delivery, but is now willing to wait; eBay says time's up

I shipped a small item Jun27 the way the buyer chose (USPS GA) from Memphis, and it was delayed in FL. Instead of simply waiting, the buyer opened a case Jul10. We discussed it, and agreed it wasn't my fault and that he'd wait a few days. He also bought another similar item by the same shipping, which was delivered on the 13th. But I got an eBay message this morning saying this has to be resolved today. Is there a way to get eBay to extend that time by a few days since it appears that the item WILL be delivered? Is there a way to prevent INR claims before the allotted shipping time? Ebay's most handsome seller.
      WOW!

It now costs me $8.40 in postage to ship a baseball cap from Hawaii to PA. $8.40 postage $1.00 ebay fees (approx.) $0.50 box __________ $9.90 I've been charging my customers $7 shipping which seemed to be the "sweet spot". I still make enough on the hat to make the profit I want. I'm just contemplating... Do I leave the shipping at $7 and make a little less profit -or- raise the shipping and possibly lose sales? I would love to hear what other sellers think.

Any ideas on how to get eBay to remove negative feedback per their policies?

Same old story... Buyer buys a product then demands additional products and leaves negative feedback when the seller won't do what they want. So you (the seller) spell it all out for eBay in the removal request. Only to be greeted by an absolutely stupid response from eBay a couple minutes later denying the request.

HOW TO APPEAL A CLEARLY WRONG RULING BY EBAY DENYING MY APPEAL OF TOBACCO POLICY VIOLATION?

Hi Everone, I listed a box of unopened Vtg. Vulcanizing Patches branded under the Camel brand associated with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco. The box contains tire patches clearly stated in Listing Title, Item Description and pictures. The listing was pulled for violation of tobacco policy. There is clearly no tobacco in the box. Camel marketed many non-tobacco items using the iconic "Camel in the desert" logo back in the early 1900S I appealed explaining the obvious and the ruling came back denied. How can I appeal the clearly wrong call by Ebay ? Who makes the decisions on appeals? Do they read the listing and/or look at pictures? Or did AI take it down for the words CAMEL and UNOPENED in listing title? I called customer service explained the situation , have a case number but that was 5 days ago. Any ideas on how to pursue this? Thank you!
