      ebay sales to California

The sales tax for all ebay sales to California reported place of sale is eBay's headquarters in San Jose. Then San Jose splits the spoils with San Jose getting 70% and ebay getting 30%. ebay has recieved nearly 50 million dollars from this deal so far. That's right folks, when someone from California buys something on ebay 30% of the sales tax actually goes to ebay. ebay sellers have paid over 6 million additional dollars in seller fees on sales tax that was going to ebay, isn't that special. https://www.valueaddedresource.net/ebay-san-jose-tax-sharing-50-million-rebates/

what would you do, listing when no store

I have (1) closed my store and (2) been listing hard. I am on track to use up my 250 free listings before the end of the month. What would you do, only list the allotted amount or put pedal to the metal and list as much as possible and pay the 35 cents for excess listings? Note that getting a store doesn't solve the problem because I would get zero free auctions and that is my bag now. I list "lots" and only a couple of fixed price things now. The exception is some vintage books I am auctioning singly. I have a whole lot of those but don't want to get a Store just to list those and wait around for who knows how long . My goal is to sell as much as I reasonably can pretty much by the end of this year. I spend most mornings listing and doing the mail then taking off afternoons. Soon I am opening my store to any dealers who might want to come and scan my previously single title books and hopefully buy a lot. I'm only going to ask $1 each and there are dealers who buy books worth as little as $4.

7.9 Percent on General Promoted (Sitewide)

The Post Office seemed to have Jumped up Ahead with the Raising of the Increase to its Mailing with eBay and eBay Sellers to about $1.00 more per Package. Not a good idea in Any Way. It does mean that eBay will lose about 20% in New Sellers Next year. That should Tank eBays Shareholder Profit for 2027. New eBay Sellers cannot sustain the need for Ebay Sellers to Pay for the daily operation of USPS/UPS. So rather than lose the Free Shipping designation on eBay throughout from eBay Sellers, the better Idea, is to drop General Promoted to Literally 7.9% On every single listing for the over 4 Million eBay Sellers. 18.8% is and was the Top Percentage on General Promoted. After 5 years at eBay I know more about General Promoted than anyone on Earth. I decided a few years ago that I would not go above 18.8%. Recently I had one Product that was Out Of Stock, that I ended Yesterday. The GP was 25.3 Percent! Imagine paying THAT! that to Sell ANY Product on eBay? eBay is literally demanding that Seller's be Zero Profit. You will not be likely to see CEO/President Jimmy, at the eBay Convention (On TV) speaking of the raising of Commissions or GP Percentages to eBay Sellers. It's rather a one sided Enterprise. Yet to be The Consortium does go hand in hand with the Stock. The Seller. Not the Platform. Even 100,000 concerted eBay Sellers placing 7.9% on every single listing on eBay would Upend the eBay GP Algorithm . The Sales would stay the same, but the Momentum would change for the Top Search Positions for every Product on the site from 18.8% to 7.9%. I'd urge every eBay Seller on Earth to do so. Sellers on eBay cannot sustain the systematic dismantling of eBay Seller Profit on eBay. Thank you. Blacks Always Bet On It.

      Ebay's most handsome seller.
      Ellie Seattle Warning to Sellers!

If you were considering sourcing from a website called "E*** S***" don't. They're are advertising a 80% off going out of business sale. Beautiful pictures of beautiful merchandise ... but there are numerous reports that this site is a scam. The merchandise looks nothing like the pictures, instead is cheap toy-like merchandise from China. If anyone has bought from here, please let us know. --------------------------------------------------------- I came across a similar site in 2025, was all ready to source from there, I even created 2 drafts, but changed my mind at the last minute. I found out those sites were also scam sites. [Removed by Moderator]

      30-day hold on my funds

eBay continues to place 30-day holds on items that are valued over a certain amount. Even though the customer has received the item, messaged me back confirming that it is as described and the item was new to begin with. The customer has also left positive feedback. I think that eBay needs to stop holding on to sellers money and release their funds when they get confirmation from the buyer.  I could understand a 3-day hold but 30-days is ridiculous. They just want to collect interest on everyone’s money and that doesn’t benefit the seller at all. Get it together eBay.

Urgent: Account Charge Scheduled for Tomorrow Despite Seller Protection on Order 18-14736-55934

Urgent: Requesting Manual Review on Order 18-14736-55934 - Seller Protections Violated Hello, my account is georgerygonerogue. I am requesting an immediate executive override and manual credit for a closed case on Order 18-14736-55934. An automated collection charge has been scheduled against my account for tomorrow, despite the fact that I am fully covered under eBay Seller Protection rules. The facts of the transaction are as follows: 1. The package was shipped on time to the address provided on the order page. 2. The buyer provided an invalid address, causing the United States Postal Service to officially mark the item "Return to Sender" with "IA" (Insufficient Address) and "NSS" (No Such Street) designations. 3. The package has been physically returned to my possession. Per eBay policy, a seller's obligation is fulfilled if a delivery fails due to buyer address errors. The automated bot incorrectly ruled against me because it strictly scanned for a "Delivered to Buyer" status. I have spent the afternoon attempting to resolve this via phone support, but I was unfortunately disconnected twice by the automated system during supervisor transfers. Attached is the photographic proof of the package showing the official postal service carrier markings. Please stop/reverse tomorrow's automated charge and credit my balance to correct this system error. Thank you.

      Shipping cost adjustment

I've been on ebay a long time but have NEVER gotten an email saying the post office was charging me more. But today I got an email saying I was being charged for a package that was heavier. And it said the package that was supposed to be four ounces was 2.2 pounds, which I know it wasn't. It was in a pouch. And the link it gave me to dispute it is asking for numbers I don't think I have. Is this something I can expect because I can't randomly get god knows how many charges from the post office when my chances for fighting a dispute are low to zip.

What kind of feedback would you give this seller?

I bought 5 of an item for about $40. This is a new seller with (1) feedback. I like to give new sellers a chance. He messages me and says he doesn't have 5 of the color I ordered and if I would be willing to take 1 in another color. I said no problem. It wasn't really a big deal. The package arrived. Although the items are not really fragile, they were shipped loose in a box with absolutely no packaging whatsoever. They were not damaged but who packages and ships thing this way? I decided to let him know of my dissatisfaction. He replies back calling me a scammer. I guess he thinks I was fishing for a partial refund. What kind of feedback (if any) would you give this seller?

      EBay Metrics BBE issues

I’ve been a member since 2007. I started using eBay as a buyer then as a seller of genuine watches spare parts. My ratings have been 5/5 in all categories and my evaluation standing is above standard. I’ve been selling worldwide -from Greece- and this experience nonetheless has offered me a lot and I have came across wonderful people that was a joy to do business with. Unfortunately, First Incident: A delivery to Ecuador was delayed due to the destination country’s post infrastructure. The buyer although anware of his country’s post shortcomings opened a complaint but later closed it. Yet, this is being counted as seller defect. Second Incident: A US buyer explicitly asked to cancel the order because their client refused to pay more for customs fees. Despite this being the buyer's request, this is counted as seller defect. Third Incident: A US customer was not replying to my messages regarding customs and shipment options. My country’s postal service had suspended all shipments to the US to be reevaluated due to customs regulations, making FedEx, UPS, or DHL the only options. Since I received no feedback, I cancelled. The customer later re-ordered disregarding my questions, and I prepaid their customs and tax myself through my country's prepayment policy to avoid being penalised by eBay. Now, the above count as my defects and I’m at risk of losing my selling privilege. Customer help call seller assistance unfortunately is like talking to an automaton, the information I get is inconsistent and false. I sent an appeal with screenshots and photos to prove the situation they said they will reply within 48-72, they didn’t, then they said I should wait, then they said I will not get a reply. I also received a seller defect removal link but none of these case are there for me to remove or ask an appeal. I have also as per their instructions uploaded screenshots and photos that prove my claims but I didn’t receive any feedback. Soon I guess my account will be suspended I suppose although I have correctly stated reason of cancellation “buyer asked to cancel” and followed all what was said to me. I’m extremely disappointed by a system that has been broken. Thank you in advance to anyone who took the time to read it is more than appreciated.

STILL no private messaging function here

@devon@ebay Can we please at least get a ballpark estimate of when we'll have private messaging? Considering I haven't observed any other new features/improvements in recent days, it's starting to look like construction is over, and they changed their minds about letting us have a PM function.

Inventory not updating on item listing page

When I update inventory (using either Edit item on Active Items page or Revise listing from listing page) it is not updating the inventory on the actual listing. I show 5 items in inventory on the Active Items page for one listing but the actual listing page only shows 1 available. Is anyone else running into this? If you look at this listing it shows 1 available but my inventory shows 6 in the Active Items view and i changed it over 4 hours ago. Skyhigh Commission or Partial Payment from Ebay?

Hello. I am trying to understand why my payout from eBay for a sold item is so small. My order earnings is $72.29. But eBay sent me $44.83. My account lists zero withholds. I haven't shipped the item so I thought there might be a withhold until I ship but that should be listed then. This can't possibly be right, can it? I thought commissions were 13.25%? The AI support on eBay is awful and of course there is no customer service. Thank you for your help! Julie
