      Ebay don't protect sellers

Hello everyone, Something has happened that I can't just accept and move past, so I'm sharing it here. On June 30th, 2026, I sold a JBL Cinema SB580 3.1 soundbar system on eBay. The buyer initially offered $150, which I declined, and we settled on my counteroffer of $160. I shipped the item via FedEx Home Delivery from Maryland to California, and it was delivered on July 8th, 2026. I take customer service seriously and follow up on every sale. When I received the delivery notification, I reached out to the buyer to confirm the item had arrived undamaged. I also make a point of letting customers know that even though my listings don't accept returns, I will always make an exception if an order arrives damaged or if something else goes wrong outside anyone's control. This buyer completely ignored my message. Then, on July 13th, 2026—five days after delivery—the buyer opened a return request through eBay without any prior communication, citing "item not as described." I had sent this buyer a 100% brand new, complete product, yet the return request read: "Hi, I received only the soundbar. The wireless subwoofer, remote, power accessories, and other included items are missing. The listing title and photos show a complete JBL Cinema SB580 system and the description says it is new and sealed. Since I did not receive the complete product, I'd like either the missing components sent to me or a full refund." I messaged the buyer and asked why they were claiming they hadn't received the entire order. Instead of backing down, they doubled down and sent me a photo of a small box—one I never shipped—asking how the full system could possibly have fit inside it. I told them that was not the box I sent, and I pulled up the FedEx delivery photo showing the actual package, which was nearly the size of their front door. I asked them directly: why are you trying to scam me? I also pointed out that FedEx weighed the package at 23.23 lbs. According to the official JBL Cinema SB580 spec sheet, the soundbar alone weighs 5.7 lbs (2.6 kg), the wireless subwoofer weighs 12.6 lbs (5.7 kg), and the complete retail box has a total packaging weight of 22.9 lbs (10.4 kg). How could anything be missing—especially the subwoofer—when my shipment weighed 23.23 lbs? At that point, I was furious with this dishonest person. I told them plainly that I would not accept a partial return when I had shipped the complete product, and that eBay would protect me from scammers like them. Their exact response was: "ebay will always side with the buyer, buyer protection duh." I blocked them and waited for eBay to handle the case. Today, eBay decided in the buyer's favor. They are allowing the return and refunding the buyer with my money. Why doesn't eBay look at the evidence before deciding what to do with a seller's money? I earned that money fairly by sending a complete product to someone who wanted to buy it. My guess is that the buyer already owned this system, blew out their subwoofer, and figured they could scam a seller on eBay into providing a free replacement. Is there really nothing I can do about this?

What’s with the eBay messages timestamps?

This is annoying the crap out of me. You know within the eBay messages inbox you see all the messages that you received in chronological order (according to the timestamp shown on the right of each message). How come when I click any unread message (including ones I received days ago) the timestamp on the message immediately changes to 1 minute <ago> once the message marks to being “read”? This bothers me a lot because sometimes I want to see the chronological order of all he messages I get that is related to a certain listing or transaction. And when the timestamps on these messages change according to when I click to read them, it gets all messed up. I always have to end up cross referencing these messages with my gmail inbox that the duplicates get sent to. Honestly, is this a glitch? Because what reason would there be for this to function as eBay intended? I checked my messages in my other accounts and they also behave the same way.

      Disgusted seller

What recourse does a seller have if EBay Authenticator , using AI declares your authentic item a fake? I appealed and uploaded a picture of the original price card inside the LV handbag. Within an hour my appeal was declined. (AI again?) the handbag was NOT a fake. I listed it as “brand new” because I NEVER used it, it was pristine and my listing photos included the date code number! It probably should have been listed as “pre-owned”but since it was never used I listed it as new. In any case, it was NOT counterfeit and never used and I am the original owner and purchased it myself! eBay says it cannot be relisted!

"We inspected your item and found a minor condition discrepancy. We notified the seller"

Does this mean that the seller can cancel and refund the order if a minor defect is found in the authentication process? I still want the item regardless, but so far the authenticator has not asked me whether I want it still, they've only contacted the seller...

sold a item that was brass and the person who bought said it was tarnished

I sold a brass sleight and deer. The buyer contacted me today. Said that I didn't tell it was tarnished on one side. They want money off the price. I had it listed for 60.00 they got for 50.00 It was my fault that I didnt tell them it had been tarnished. I think they can clean it with lemon juice or something else. What do I do.

      eBay authentication

I recently sold an item that required eBay authentication and it did not pass but I previously bought the same item through eBay with authentication and it passed, and I don’t know how to move forward from here.

      New unpaid item protections???

I'm already in the middle of trying to solve a complex mystery, but just happened to spy something at the top of my hub.

Pretty enticing, but if I start reading the stuff now, I'll forget the things I was trying to keep in mind for my current "case" ha. Anyway here's the 'Learn More' link, for whoever wants to read now, and discuss: https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/payment-policies/unpaid-item-policy?id=4271

ebay needs to make a rule or policy to cover rural zip codes

They have it for HI and AK, USPS posted 2 years ago 17,000 rural zip codes(and up the shipping rates), probably change some since 2024. For me, I'm going to pull at least 40% of my listings, I'm losing $3 for every rural zip code, if not I'll have to raise my shipping to $8.40. I called in and actually talked to a US rep, she agreed with me about it, can't say she passed it up to anyone, but really don't know who to throw the idea to. I know this board is for sellers and supposedly ebay doesn't read it, maybe someone has an ear like DEVON, or someone in shipping department. I'm not putting the blame on ebay, just looking for a solution, if not I'll have to pull listings, can't lose $3 every 4-5 sales and keep selling.
