When will Ebay be fixing their shipping labels?
For the past few weeks since Ebay did away with their old labels all I get now are full page labels which sometimes take 2 sheets of paper and then only half of one side of the label prints. Tonight I am trying to print a shipping label. I cannot get to save as a PDF file so I can downsize it to print it out the right size. It wants to paint which will not adjust the size even you got through paints printing sizer. I am wasting both paper and ink, not to mention I am already out 20 minutes on what used to be a minute at the most.

·8 months agoHi again @maryinlikely
I was looking at some of your listings and I see quite a few with USPS First Class as the shipping method. You can't pint USPS First Class postage through eBay.

·8 months agoHi @maryinlikely
-Are you using the app or a PC?
-If the app uninstall and reinstall it and try again
-If a PC then clear cookies, cache, browsing history, shut down, restart and see if it clears on the current browser you use
-If not try a different browser
-It could very easily be a temporary eBay glitch.
-One work around would be to take a screen shot of the label when it is displayed on your screen after you purchase it from eBay, then open the screen shot in paint or another image program and crop out everything except the label, save it as a jpeg in a file where you can find it. Open a word doc and insert the label image, turn it sideways if necessary and size it to be on half the page or smaller. Print the word doc.
If it still prints wrong then it is your system and you might need to update your printer drivers.
-You could also try a PC Restore point prior to when you started to see problems, if that clears it then it might be a more recent Update that goofed something up in your system.

OP8 months agoI have tried everything you have suggested. I have spent hours trying to get it to work. I wiped out my cookies too just in case. I just went to printing preferences on Ebay and all it shows me is how to print a label. So far I cannot find the page that shows hows set up the labels for printing but I use a computer and not a phone. Perhaps that is the problem. However, I am not going to try and list by phone. The screen is too small to see all that you need to see when it comes to the 20 to 40 lines that have questions to fill out if applicable.

UPDATE: We have learned that eBay has NOT rolled out any new label page formats. Therefore if none of the suggestions or help here works you may have to talk to a local computer expert to determine where the issue is. You said you tried everything I suggested ... did that include the part about taking a screen shot, cropping it and pasting it in a Word doc and printing out the word doc? If so and you still get the print too big then the problem is on your system and not eBay. So if that happened are you using 8 1/2 x 11 on your PC's print menu or possibly 11 x 17, that can cause one of the issues you described up thread. Are your print settings for Portrait or Landscape page orientation?
In any event and in an effort to continue to assist you:
When you click the Print label button on a sold item you get the first screen shot below and the green arrow is where you can Change the page layout. If you click that the next screen lets you choose file type (mine is pdf - outlined in blue) and page size for printing (again mine choice is 8 x 11 outlined in blue). To the right of the word Change you can click Preview and get the third screen shot showing a sample. Do any of these screens seem familiar to you???
I use Microsoft Edge browser and have a Windows 11 system and when I go to print the label after purchasing it the browser Print Menu lets me change JUST the label size by percentage. I like 85% for most labels.

OP8 months agoNo, I can change it in my Office 365 Word program. I can also print perfect shipping labels at another site that I buy shipping labels. So somewhere along the line, I have a glitch problem related on to Ebay shipping labels. Everything else prints fine. I have figured how to convert it from png to jpg and fix it Word if I cannot get it into a PDF. I thank you for that hint. The real problem now it is time consuming not to have labels print out like they have for years and years. And like I said, I met another person at the Post Office who was having the same problem. So I am not alone.

It is possible that a recent update on your system plus eBay coding has caused a glitch. You might try Restoring you system to a date prior to when you started to see the problem. I have done that from time to time over the years with good success.

·8 months agoI'm not having the sizing issue the OP is having (thank g-d) but ebay has definitely been fiddling with the labels again.
I used to get a popup to print the label and now there's no popup but a dark mode screen with the label and when you say print on that screen THEN the popup comes up.
This is both Firefox and Chrome. Not my computer per se either as it does the same on the one at work.

OP8 months agoIt will not print smaller in Paint I have tried that. I also have removed my cookies. That did not help except I had to start over with passwords which is time consuming. It will either fix itself or it won't. I may have to buy labels elsewhere until I can find the problem. Thank you for you taking time to try and help me. I will keep trying to find the preferences box that you showed me. I am a patient person most of the time. You have to be when you sell online. Tiffee Jasso

It is not likely to just fix itself. If you do not understand how to provide the answers that have been requested, you may want to contact a local tech support company and get someone to come look at it with you.

·8 months agoDo you mean the page to select label size? If you're on the simplified label page it's going to look nothing like the screenshots posted. Look for a link on the top right of the label page that says "switch to advanced shipping" and click on that, then you'll see a page that matches the screens posted by eastlaneave and mrlincoln.
While you should check the label size settings as a first step, that's unlikely to be the issue here. Seriously I see questions like yours multiple times every week for years on end. Out of the last approx 150 sellers I helped with this, it was an eBay issue only 1 time. Nearly every time this is on the user's end.
I know you didn't change any settings, but what's important to understand is things like this are often tied to browsers. For example:
- Most common is users' settings are the browser default, which is to open PDF files with the browser's built-in reader. This is almost always the problem. When browser settings are changed to open PDF files with Adobe, it almost always fixes this issue.
- Browser is out of date.
- Browser just got a new update and it adjusted your browser settings or the new update is buggy.
- Operating System is out of date.
- Browser extensions are interfering.
- Printer settings are not correct.
- Printer software needs to be updated.
I don't know why your question sparked a bigger reaction than is typical on this topic, but this is a very common issue on the user's end and it requires someone willing to troubleshoot to solve it. Even if you're not great with computers, you can fix this if you're willing to check settings and try the suggestions that were presented. Start by using a different browser.
You still haven't answered some of the basic questions from my last post that will likely solve this for you which tells me you may not be willing to troubleshoot, so I'm going to bow out. You're in capable hands with the other knowledgable sellers on this thread.

We are all using the computer, not the phone. I agree the screen is too small.
Check your eBay Settings
1) When you click Get A Label, does your print screen look like this?
2) If so, click Switch to Advance Shipping that I have highlighted above. (if not, go to step 3)
3) Once you are on the Advanced Shipping label screen, you will see something like this
4) Click the "Change" link that I have highlighted above
5) That will bring you to this screen
6) Select PDF and 8x11 then SAVE
7) Finalize your label choices and print.
If your label is still not correct,
😎 please tell us what you setting are on this screen, particularly Paper Size and Scale
9) Stick with us and do the steps. If you are not sure how, just tell us so we can explain in another way.

The suggestion was only to use Paint to crop out everything but the label image then you can Insert that in a normal Word doc and print the word doc. In any event I sincerely hope you can get it resolved ...

·8 months agoNothing changed with ebay. Sounds like a local PC issue to me. I know everyone loves to blame ebay when something goes wrong, but often the problem exists on your own computer...

OP8 months agoI only stated it was an Ebay problem because it started when they introduced their new program. I got an email from Ebay stating they had changed the shipping label. Then my problems with getting a label began. And before everyone jumps in and hollers scam email, let me tell you that I only use Ebay with that email address. I get no promotions or social unless Ebay sends out something. I rarely get a spam emails either. Today, I am allowed to make a PDF file and I can set it to print one page instead of two and am able to adjust the label size. Extra time but it sure beats the last couple of days problems.

I print multiple labels daily and am having no troubles, let's see if we can troubleshoot your issue.
1) Are you using a computer? Mac or Windows?
2) Which browser? Edge, Safari, Chrome, Firefox? -- try Chrome if you are not using that
3) Are you printing to an inkjet printer?
4) What are you settings on this screen? (You can access this as described in my first reply)
5) What are your settings on the print dialog screen - similar to this
6) Maybe this should be 1 - download and install a fresh copy of Adobe Reader, make it your default PDF application.

OP8 months agoI am using Windows 11 on my PC. I use Google Chrome browser with latest updates. This problem started with Ebay's new labels that removed the half of the label with information. I had worked around it by making PDFs and then adjusting the printing by scaling down to get the right size label for different size boxes or poly bags. But yesterday, I was not allowed to make a PDF file and it would not scale down even though my printer properties showed it as being printed at 60 percent. Very frustrating. After the 5th or 6th try, I finally used the 8 by 10 inch label which barely fit on the box. The bar code is about 7 1/2 inches wide by over an inch tall. To give you an indication of how big the label is. My printer prints out everything else correctly including labels for my Christmas gifts that I purchased elsewhere. I have already had to go buy extra ink at $50 that was an XL size and was only a few weeks old. Most of that was due to the first messed up label that printed a 3 by 5 label on a black field. The paper was practically dripping ink. I know I am not the only one as I talked to a gentleman at the my Post Office who was having the same problem. My printer is a Canon and about a year old.

I know you are experiencing difficulty, but there was no change to eBay labels (at least not widespread)
What shows on this screen? If you can't reach this screen, I will work until you can reach it.

OP8 months agoThere has been a change in the shipping labels. I even got an email from Ebay telling me they were making a better label. So maybe I am in one of their experimental trials. I don't know, but I do know that I am being forced out of Ebay shipping labels which I have used since they introduced them. This is not my first Rodeo. I have been on Ebay since 1996. This is the first time I have had a problem that cannot be solved by Ebay's Help site. As for Ebay's new AI bot on its Help site, it does not understand English as all it will do is tell me that is does not understand my question when I ask about the shipping label problem and then ask for a human when it repeats "How to ship an item." You cannot get past it to talk to someone on Ebay's tech support page. Like the problem with my labels, it just keeps repeating itself over and over. FRUSTRATING, not to mention time consuming.

If you reply with the settings from the screen I've shown you 3 times, I'll continue to assist you.
I share your frustration with the AI help.
If you want to talk with someone who knows less about labels than I do, here's how to get a call back.
-- How to Have eBay Call You --
There is no incoming phone number for buyers or sellers. If you want a call back from eBay Customer Service, here is how to get a call:
Start at an article close to your question (you can look from here: https://www.ebay.com/help/home)
Scroll to the Bottom of the page similar to your question
1) Click "Contact Us" or the ? then:
In the CHAT WINDOW
2) Type "I need help"
3) Click "Selling" (or your topic)
4) Type "Agent" in the chat window
5) You may need to click "Something Else" or "More Options" or type "Agent" a few more times
6) Click “Have Us Call You†(or "Chat with an Agent")
-- If you use a call filter on your phone, turn it off temporarily, or it might block the incoming call.
or
use eBay's social media customer service to get assistance

·8 months ago1. Can you post a copy of that email @maryinlikely ?
2. Did you try another browser yet?
3. Did you update your browser settings to open PDF files with Adobe instead of the browser's built in reader?
4. You keep saying, "I was not allowed to make a PDF file" - What does that mean? Error message? Can't find the option to select PDF? Something else? Can you post a screenshot?
You're asking for help and there are several here trying to help, but you're not providing the info needed to help and you're not responding to the suggestions that have been made. Can you start by answering the above questions? You can number your replies if it helps to keep track - I numbered the questions for you.

OP8 months agoI did that. It would not let me save the last label as a PDF file so I could change and it let me click on size but printed the big label anyway. I have been doing that for weeks. Tonight it had two sizes a 2 by 3 inches or the 8 by 10 label. One is too small and one is too big. I gave up and printed the big one and, like four boxes Monday used the 8 by 10 labels. I thought it was my printer but I saw a seller in the Post Office with the same problem. His labels were the size of sheet of paper. Thankfully his boxes were big enough. But those huge labels look awful and they use way too much ink. The old label system worked why mess it up?

OP8 months agoAlso I went and bought a shipping label from a different source to send my daughter a package and it printed out the same usable size that it always prints. No muss no fuss or reduction necessary. And I cannot use the help link anymore, the AI does not understand English.

1) Check your eBay Settings
There is a Print Format "Change" button on the lower right-hand side of the Print Shipping Label screen.
- If you don't see something like this to the right on the shipping screen, click the "Show additional shipping options" on the upper right, then look again.
Click the "Change" and you can select PDF or PNG and the layout you need.
2) Check your printer dialog options. When the printer dialog screen pops up, check the 'Scale' setting.
maryinlikely
OP8 months agoThat was working but it no longer works to reduce the label. At least the big label will now print out on one page it was only printing out half at one time. I make sure to click on 1 or else it will print a two inch hash tag on the second page.

You may have to make these adjustments when your system displays the print screen. This is right before you click on PRINT on your computer.
Check the settings there. If it has something that says "more options" or something similar, click on that as well. You will have to dig around in the print settings on your system and make adjustments.
What type of computer are you using?
