Impressions
Hello, I have been a small seller on ebay for years and I am trying to get more active in selling. Could someone please explain what exactly an "Impression" is? Is this somehow related to views on items? And why are they only showing totals of views on items for a time and than erasing them? What is promoting a listing? Is that something worth doing?

An "impression" is the appearance of your item thumbnail on an eBay search page that a visitor can see. If your item appears on page 3, and the visitor doesn't make it to page 3, there is no "impression". A "view" is when the listing is opened by the visitor on eBay. eBay does not count the views by automated bots—for instance, when listings are offered to google, facebook, and other shopping aggregators and are crawled by those venues.
The total "views" is a sliding 30 day window. So a view that is over 30 days old will fall off. Thus, you will only see recent active views, and not totals over all time (which is kind of a shame because I had a couple of listings with nearly a million historical views). This means you can tell if interest in your item is growing or waning.
Promoting a listing means you are willing to pay a percentage of the total sale to eBay for a preferred position on eBay's search pages. You compete with other sellers in the same category, so successful rates will vary by category. The higher the percentage you are willing to pay, the higher in search your item should appear. This fee is on top of your normal final value fees, so it may not make sense for some items.
eBay has several versions of promoted listings with different fee structures:
