Impact of Bulk Updates on Store Visibility and Algorithm Suppression
Summary: mygift...myson reports a significant drop in store performance after a bulk update of the "Custom SKU" field, which was not expected to affect search rankings according to official guidance. Despite this, they experienced a 34% drop in impressions and a 47% decrease in views, leading to no sales. stainlessenginecovers doubts the impact of the SKU changes, suggesting issues could stem from inaccurate metrics, seasonal fluctuations, or competition. However, mygift...myson remains convinced that the bulk edits have negatively impacted their store, noting consistent negative trends in impressions and views post-update.
I've recently encountered a significant issue after performing a bulk update on the "Custom SKU" field for 600 out of my 3,300 listings, solely to change inventory codes. Despite official advice that changes to this hidden field shouldn't affect search ranking, or produce algorithm suppression, I've seen a drastic decline in my store's performance: impressions dropped by 34%, views by 47%, and sales went to zero.
Given my stable listing habits, I suspect this may be due to algorithmic suppression or server issues triggered by the bulk change. Has anyone else experienced similar issues after making bulk updates to seemingly non-impactful fields, like custom SKU? How did you address the decline in visibility and sales? Your insights could help avoid similar pitfalls. Let's discuss strategies to mitigate these negative impacts and ensure our listings remain visible and competitive.

·3 weeks agoSince 600 is less than 20% of the total 3300 yet you are seeing a reduction of 34/47%;
I say it has nothing to do with nothing.
Those 'impressions' are completely worthless- your item could have come up on a buyers search on page 48 and never seen anyway.
The 'views' can matter more as that only shows a seller that their item got enough interest for someone to click...
If and ONLY if those numbers are even accurate.
For views I showed 600 one day and 90 the next, then 450, 350, 683, 10...
So I don't hold those numbers to be very accurate.
Just look at views over a month, compared to another month and then figure:
time of year?
new competition?
lack of want?
over priced?

OP3 weeks agomy impressions went higher this morning -77% and -68% for views. Before I did it it was 22% positive for impressions, and 35% positive for views for a one day period, the 30 days before I did it was 10% plosive and views 12% positive, now it is for 30 days, 23% negative for impressions and 18% negative for views. It definitely has something to do with my bulk editing of the custom SKU's, I check mornings all the time, so I am consistent, No competition since I only list an item if it has no more than 2 listed or less, no lack of want, I sell collectibles, not overpriced as I use eBay's 3 year sold and Worthpoint. I was told by google AI that changing only titles, prices, descriptions, and item specifics in bulk will cause algorithm suppression, when I asked about custom SKU's it said it was hidden from buyers and that it would not suppress my store, it did unfortunately, my sales were terrific before I did the bulk custom SKU revisions.
