Closed return and now wants to return
Closed return by buyer then decides to return a few days later. Whats my obligation...because I dont get tracking from ebay or option to refund? Seems like buyer mailed item back not through the ebay platform. Do I need to refund?

OP1 month agoNo have just recieved a message from the buyer that it was sent..what if the buyer is asking for the full refund with ebay fees and all. Will ebay hold me accountable for any or be on bad terms with ebay. Also it does not give me an option to refund since the return was closed. I just dont want to stay on bad terms with ebay.

Since the buyer chose to return the item without eBay's knowledge, eBay can not hold you accountable for any further actions -- as far as eBay is aware, the buyer still has possession of the item.
You will not be on "bad terms" with eBay, and the buyer can not "force" you to provide a refund of any kind -- any refund which you may desire to send the buyer is up to you.
If you wish to refund the buyer, after receiving and examining the returned item, this is the procedure which you would use:
From your "Seller Hub" page, click on "Orders," which is located just below the words "Seller Hub" -- then click on "Paid and shipped."
Scroll down to the item which has been returned -- next to the oval which reads "View order details" is a circle with three dots inside -- click on that circle, and scroll down to "Send refund" -- click on that.
You will be sent to the "Enter refund amount" page -- enter ONLY the dollar amount which you may wish to refund -- normally, this amount would be ONLY the sale price, with the shipping charges and 40 cent eBay fee subtracted.
Don't worry about refunding any sales taxes back to the buyer -- eBay will do that on their own.
Click on the word "Next" under "Total refund to buyer", and follow all the remaining instructions -- your buyer will be refunded, if that is your wish.

OP1 month agoBut now the buyer is asking for the full refund including ebay fees and taxes. I have not even recieved any notice from ebay about this return.

If the buyer has shipped the item back to you without opening an official eBay return, you are not responsible for refunding the buyer ANYTHING.
Stop communicating with this buyer, until you receive your item back, and after you have examined it for any damage for which the buyer is responsible.
Then -- and ONLY then -- you may choose to communicate with the buyer, and offer a PARTIAL refund -- not a WHOLE refund.
Keep in mind -- the buyer chose to return the item OUTSIDE of eBay guidelines -- so eBay has NO knowledge of ANYTHING that occurred AFTER the item was confirmed as being delivered.
So the buyer can not use threats regarding reporting you to eBay or any other such nonsense -- the buyer is 100% responsible for choosing to return the item OUTSIDE of eBay knowledge, rather than to open an official eBay return.
STOP COMMUNICATING WITH THIS BUYER!!!

As I've previously stated, eBay is no longer a party to this transaction -- not since eBay closed the buyer's return case, since the buyer waited until after 30 days to make a return.
Additionally, the buyer modified the golf clubs sent to them -- which is a violation of eBay's return policy.
Finally, the buyer returned the items outside of the official eBay return policy -- so eBay is TOTALLY unaware of ANY return.
There is NO potential case against you, as far as eBay is concerned -- your buyer has dynamited any case which they may formerly have structured..
And, just in case you didn't read it the first two times -- STOP COMMUNICATING WITH THIS BUYER!!!

Is this the same buyer that modified the grips on the golf clubs?
For purposes of returns, a buyer is not allowed to make modifications, and then choosing to return -- that is official eBay policy.
You owe this buyer ZILCH.

If the buyer is returning the item outside of the eBay program, you are not officially obligated to refund the buyer.
However, if you feel like it would be the honorable thing to do, you may refund the buyer the original purchase price, less the original shipping fees, as well as the 40 cents eBay final purchase fee.
But don't refund anything, until you have actually received the item, and have examined it to make sure that it isn't damaged.
It's up to you.
