When you hear the phrase “scaling your business,” what does that actually mean to you?
Summary: In a discussion initiated by Danielle Craun about the concept of 'scaling your business,' participants shared varied perspectives. Carolina C described scaling as transitioning from mere reselling to running a structured and sustainable business. This involves formalizing the business structure, setting up financial systems, and improving organizational processes to enhance customer experience and maintain smoother operations. Similarly, Vanessa Townsend emphasized the importance of setting goals and collaborating with colleagues, citing how cooperative sessions have boosted their business. They also highlighted activities like attending pop-up events as crucial for networking and business growth.
For some sellers it might mean:
📦 listing more consistently
💰 becoming more profitable
🧾 getting organized/bookkeeping systems in place
📸 improving listings/photos
🏠 reclaiming space from inventory piles
😅 feeling less overwhelmed
🚗 gaining confidence with larger or higher-ticket listings
👥 building community & accountability
⏰ creating more flexibility or freedom
As I prepare for the upcoming eBay Spring Seller Check-In networking session on:
📈 “Scaling from a Side Hustle to a Small Business”
…I’d genuinely love to hear what scaling looks like from YOUR perspective so more seller voices and experiences are represented in the conversation 💜

·4 months agoI think of "scaling your business" as including goals- consistently, and collaberating with colleagues and co workers, i.e. RVA Chapter co worker sessions. The co work session has helped my small business grow tremendously just in the past month. Sales have improved and increased tremendously. Scaling means putting the "grit" towards the small business or LLC entity, in its entire format. It would mean attending pop up events, flea markets, a variety of "genres" to get the name and business out there for networking.

·4 months agoWhen I hear “scaling your business,” I think of taking the next step from just reselling…to running an actual business.
For me, that means:
• officially setting up an LLC or corporation
• opening a business checking account & business credit card
• implementing a bookkeeping system
• creating a reliable inventory tracking system
• developing a consistent listing/shipping process
• investing more time into all aspects of the business, not just sourcing or listing
It also means becoming more organized overall, reclaiming space from inventory piles, improving workflows, and making the business run smoother day to day instead of constantly feeling reactive or overwhelmed. Also creating stronger customer experiences, and thinking long term instead of transaction to transaction.
At the end of the day, scaling to me is about creating something sustainable, profitable, and structured.
